No communication from the installers after setting up the dates. No confirmation the day before of what time they would drop off the flooring or get started on installation day. I had to call them and there was a very rude woman that informed me that "drop offs were between 9-10 the day before" then basically hung up.
Here we are on installation day and they send one guy out to do the job. I'm thinking this will be ok since my living room isn't very big and surely it can't take that long. I was wrong. He's been here since 8:45 am and its now 1pm. He hasn't even started to lay the flooring yet. He's now gone for lunch and said it would be finished around 5 pm. I chose Flohr because they were highly recommended. However this installation process has been so disappointing and unprofessional. I think my friends and I could have installed the floors in a more timely manner.
Edited to add... Less than a month later the laminate is coming up near the transition piece to the tile. Called and emailed. Left my number for Gilbert to call me back. Nothing yet. This business clearly doesn't care once they have your money. STAY AWAY.
My childhood home was old and humble, but its saving grace was beautiful hardwood floors that I took pride in polishing. It was the one aspect of the home that people would say was beautiful, (even as plaster was falling off the ceiling, lol). I say this because I was very much looking forward to having the pride of ownership again, and I was very vested in the process.
We stretched our family budget to afford an "upgraded" engineered Mohawk hand scrapped product, cherry in color. I remember the display board in the showroom was exceptionally beautiful with a sturdy feel. I expressed some concern about what seemed too thin a veneer or "top layer," but was told the coating finish was exceptionally durable, and apart from dropping a heavy object or dragging furniture the finish and product would endure for decades. When the product arrived in my home and I was able to feel the planks, my heart sunk. They were flimsy. I should have followed my gut and called the whole thing off right then, but I didn't know if I could and I didn't know if this was typical. I realized the demo model I was shown in the show room had been attached to a sturdier back-piece, giving it a rigid and quality feel.
I explained to Brian (on a few occasions) "I have two big dogs." I was concerned of course if the product would hold up. He personally assured me there was nothing to worry about. I believed him. This product (although it would show dings and scratches) wouldn't peel or chip, he proclaimed. The surface was hard as a diamond (or some nonsense like that).
And, of course, he reminded me "it is warranted."
Well, five years later and the product is completely failing. Although very slow to respond to my five calls into Flohr over the past two years Brian did finally follow up and assured me that Mohawk would stand behind their product and send out an "independent" inspector to review the damage.
I was crystal clear to Brian that there was one damaged area, due to the dogs, that I was not seeking any resolution on. It was simply the high traffic areas where the product has peeled in chunks. He said to just let the inspector do his assessment and see what he says. Of course the inspector noted that harshest damage (that I wasn't claiming), took pictures of the dog's nails, and, --"case closed." Warranty voided.
There has been no attempt to find a resolution and if I hadn't been tenacious I'm certain my claims would have ignored entirely.
I suspect Brian was so eager to get his business started and make a sale that he was tone deaf to my repeated concerns over wear and tear. Of course we cannot afford to replace the floors, and the damage is a major detriment to our home value.
I greatly dislike giving a negative review, and I wish there could have been a resolution or even some compromise.
I know there are a lot of positive reviews, so maybe my experience is atypical. I, however, am giving you my strongest caution and highly recommend that you choose a different business to trust with your greatest investment.
Given the quantities involved, and the various manufacturers, it took a couple weeks to get all the material in. Once it was in, we agreed on scheduling, and they met all schedules, showing up on the day scheduled and even the time.
For the wood, we selected a natural acacia engineered floor from a relatively new manufacturer and are very pleased. We had the stairs done in the wood, and they are beautiful. The wood installation crew took the time to make sure it was right.
Corey and Brian suggested we consider turning leftover carpet into throw rugs, and we did. I recommend doing that as the cost is just "hemming" the edges and buying additional pad.
The tile crew worked with us to lay the tile out in patterns that conveyed a look we were trying to achieve, working late into the evening of the first day to ensure we were in agreement. The carpet for five bedrooms took less than a day to install, and the carpet and pad are great.
One suggestion: have your tile grout professionally sealed, and get a lifetime warranty on the seal if you have the sealer (SurfacePros, as recommended by Flohr) come out annually. Within a couple weeks after installation of the tile (even with Maximizer in the grout), we could already tell the grout would end up being a cleaning headache (put a few drops of water on your grout; if it changes color, it's not adequately sealed).
I would very highly recommend Shandeli to anyone looking for a flooring job. If I can receive such high quality service working via phone/email, I'm sure your in-person would be wonderful as well. Many thanks, Shandeli!
My wife and I entered the showroom on a Monday and were immediately greeted by Chris, who was quite helpful and pointed out the different hardwood options that were available. He then let us browse at our leisure until we had a few options to compare. Chris helped guide us and narrowed our choices based on price point and durability. Once we had two options we really liked, Chris offered to come to our home with the samples so we could better visualize the end result.
Chris worked around our schedules and was punctual. At the house he offered helpful advice on the layout and position of the hardwood as well as how to best join it to existing flooring. He took down the necessary measurements and had our quote ready by the next day.
The estimate was very fair considering the amount of work involved. The job consisted of installing flooring on all of the carpeted upstairs, one downstairs bedroom, and the staircase itself.
We had the work scheduled two weeks after the paperwork was signed. Before the install could take place, Chris called us to let us know that our chosen product was out of stock but the supplier would honor any of their other choices for the same price. Our original choice was a 3/8" thick but we were able to come back into the showroom and choose a 1/2" thick product with no hassle. This was one of the best examples of customer service I have ever experienced.
The install itself was quick and, barring a minor mishap wherein the correct amount of flooring was not brought on the first day, without delay. Flohr was very quick to reschedule the rest of the install. The crew moved quickly and were able to finish everything in one and a half days.
I could not believe how great the finished product looked in our new home. It was a night and day difference. Where once lay dingy old brown carpet our home now proudly displayed a noble, rich, and deeply colored hardwood floor. The stairs alone are a work of art. Thank you so much!
requested of them. they have already put down
$5000 in flooring.
Our shower re-do was prompted when the shower control button popped out and wouldn't go back in, and whenever the water was turned on it sprayed from the gap. We hired plumbers to fix the plumbing because we bought new fixtures that weren’t compatible with the old plumbing. The plumber had to rip out some of the tile, so we decided to go ahead and replace the tile in the shower surround; something we’d wanted to do eventually anyway.
Pros
Four guys installed the tile; they did a nice job and cleaned up everything pretty well.
Very pleased with the final look of the shower.
Cons
The tile installers placed the tiles on top of the plastic toilet seat, scratching it so severely that we had to replace it. The tub also had scratches and marks from them not putting protection on it while they were working.
Repairs to damage to the drywall (fairly minimal and understandable) during demolition was not included in the contract with Flohr (or the contract with the demo company). Felt this should’ve been caught by Flohr’s sales representative. After over a month of trying to work it out with Flohr, we ended up giving up on them and paying the demo company to fix it.
Lack of communication at Flohr. I often had to call to find out the status of the project. When I had finally arranged with Flohr a price and date for their handyman to come out to repair the drywall damage, he called that morning and was under the impression he was to give an estimate, not do the repairs--and also said the price quoted to me by Flohr was way less than what it would cost him to do the repairs.
Felt rushed and condescended to by the Flohr sales person. As soon as we signed the contract, we got the distinct impression that our project was low priority ("your job is too small") and no one was monitoring it unless I called.
Much longer to complete the entire project from start to finish than anticipated. Disruption to our work schedules because of having to be at home for the numerous appointments, tiling work, and follow up.
Flohr was also the only company that brought several decent samples to the house based on what I had requested and one of those samples was the wood I chose.
I think the thing that really struck me about Flohr compared to the other bidders was that it was very much a turnkey process. The other bidders wanted me to do much more work getting my furniture either moved or completely out of the house as well as hiring additional services for the work that Flohr was including in their bid. With a family of four living in this house, simple for me earned bonus points.
From start to finish Flohr was top-notch. They not only bid the best overall package for my needs, they actually completed it without a single glitch. Not a single installer was late even once, they didn't destroy my my house and they completed the project on time and on budget. The installers are some hard-working folks and my hat's off to those guys (and girl).
Did I mention they also did an outstanding job on the floors?!
2014 Update: see most recent write-up. Mohawk product is failing, chipping, peeling. Flohr knew we had dogs and we expressed worries about the product's thin veneer. We were reassured with a warranty and promises the product would withstand. Over time the floor has failed, and just due to high traffic. The "independent" assessment noted the dogs have toenails and voided the Mohawk warranty. Don't buy Mohawk and don't believe the salespeople.
