Jon and his crew did a beautiful job of installing an overlay and then staining it throughout our whole house. He was a pleasure to work with, is very careful and meticulous, and takes pride in his work. We love the flooring--beautiful color. Get lots of compliments.

Jon and his team has done an exceptional job on our flooring projects for the last 10 years, he is extremely knowledgeable in concrete finishes and very professional. I only use Concrete by Design for our custom homes and commercial remodels. Highly recommend them for any project you might have concerning stain concrete floors.

This is the second time we have hired Concrete by Design. The first was 12 years ago. As before, Jon and his employees did an excellent job. We did an extensive remodel and the floors are the first thing people comment on. I would have no problem using them again or recommending them to a friend.

Jon's work was just amazing. He was punctual, efficient, tidy,patient with me, made awesome suggestions. Work was completed on time at the agreed price. I would absolutely hire CBD again without reservation.

Jon came out and showed me samples before we even poured the slab. When I couldn't decide, he came out and put down stains where cabinets would later cover to help me in making my decision. The guys were great about coming in and getting things done in a timely manner and because it was a new build, we were working around other contractors. Jon's team was very flexible and he would always return calls and emails promptly. Would definitely use him again!

Jon and crew do an amazing job of turning ugly concrete into something beautiful. They are very professional and fair with their scope of services. They have really good vision, communicate their action plan, and then make it happen.

We needed to get rid of the nasty old carpet in our converted carport (conversion sometime in the 70s or 80s -- not by us) and replace with a stained concrete. We called one person to come in who was extremely cagey about the details, quoted us a price that seemed a bit steep citing "access issues," and when we asked some questions to get a better handle on what would be happening to our house, responses were short and unclear. Finally it was implied that no one else would take such as small project. That's when we called Jon with Concrete by Design based on his reviews and a referral from another customer of his. Jon was easy to talk to, gave me a loose quote over the phone, and when I asked for clarification on some details, he readily launched into a short but sweet explanation of what he would do, how he would address certain problems, and why what he wanted to do would work. Oh yeah, and the price was way more reasonable with no hidden "access issues" fees. Once work started (in less than two weeks, with a small quick-fix on his recommendation occurring in-between) he was prompt, communicative, and his "lead guy" Ralph was also able to come start early in the morning to accommodate our work-schedules. Ralph was also professional, respectful, and helpful. They left the place clean (aside from a little dust), and were respectful of the rest of our house. If we need more concrete work in the future, Concrete by Design is my go-to.

Jon was prompt in coming out to give me a quote and then to schedule when he could come out to actually do the work. Both Jon and the people he has working for him were nice, prompt to arrive, tidy, and detailed when performing the work. They stand by the quality of their work. We hired Concrete By Design first time 16 years ago in our previous home to clean, stain and seal our indoor concrete floors. He told me how to maintain the floors and true to his word easy to maintain. They were beautiful. We liked Jon and the work he performed so much we hired him again 13 years ago when we moved into our current home and then again after some major house repairs 3 months ago to clean and re-seal the floors. We highly recommend Concrete By Design.

I own a general contracting business. I do multi-family residential and commercial work. I have hired Concrete by Design to do multiple projects, performing residential stain and seal and industrial coatings. CBD has also restored and re-coated floors for my company. The owner is honest in his assessments of what can and cannot be done on a floor have always been spot on. He is very good at fixing other people's mistakes and is excellent at blending stains caused by spills or impurities in the concrete substrate. If CBD does not believe they can deliver the best product, or that they cannot meet a desired finish, they tell you so. I respect that! When I have made appointments the owner has always been punctual and prepared. Concrete by Design is great at providing samples and application mock-ups so that the customer gets a better picture of how the final product is going to look. Surprisingly, CBD's pricing is very fair and I have been able to count on them completing my projects on time and within my budget. I highly recommend Concrete by Design. I have worked with many other floor coating companies and find them to be the best.

Great! We've hired Jon's team several times to create stained concrete floors (where there once was carpeting, etc). They prepare the surface, protect your walls and cabinets, pour a new layer on concrete, color it, and seal. They are great at providing color samples in advance to help you select your final look.

Jon is great to work with and very knowledgeable. His crew always does a good job. I've used them on many commercial projects for staining and sealing concrete floors over the years and will continue to do so because he cares about doing a quality job.

Jon is the best! We worked with him on many projects from concrete finishing to more complex jobs like correcting someone else's mistakes. He's calm and professional and has great suggestions. Jon and his staff did a wonderful job at a much better price then it would be to put in wood or tile. We were remodeling the kitchen at the same time and he did a great job scheduling the work at the right times so the other contractors wouldn't harm the floor. The end result was beautiful and I would recommend his service to anyone looking to do stained concrete.

Jon and his guys removed the existing sealer and stain from our VERY large concrete stamped deck. They also re-stained and sealed our deck. Jon was referred to us by a deck contractor who said he was an artist and quite the perfectionist. It turns out he has very much earned these accolades from his peer and now from my husband and myself! The removal portion of our project was very tedious and Jon communicated with us the entire time. Each day they were very courteous with the cleanup, too. The final product is like a piece of art on our deck. We would gladly bring Jon and his guys out to do any other concrete job in the future. Truly, these are the kind of people you want working around your house.

We had the most horrible ugly blue carpet in our converted garage room. We had talked for a long time about getting stained concrete down there, but we wanted it to be similar to what we had in our previous house. Jon Shannon came out with some samples of colors and we took a very long time to decide, but he was very patient and not at all pushy about anything. He just let us come to our decision on our own. After we chose our color, he made suggestions about accents and scoring design. 
It's never easy to have a whole room inaccessible. The converted garage served as storage and laundry room, and also as a general living space for our pets, so I was concerned about how long this project would make this space out of commission. But Jon and his crew were quick and efficient in doing their work. I was also really impressed at how clean the work-space was kept. They even removed and hauled away that hideous blue carpet! I definitely believe that we received top quality service and results. 
Yes, this review is nearly a year after the fact, but with that time passed, I can honestly say that I would recommend Concrete by Design to anyone. The finished product is still beautiful and has even inspired additional renovations to the converted garage.

Absolutely fantastic job -- I've gotten completely unprompted compliments from a number of visitors, especially tradesmen/craft people/realtors, who usually say something like "I see a lot of concrete floors, and this is beautiful. Who did it?"
I purchased a single-storey house in Nov 2012 that had stained and scored concrete floors through the entryway, living room, dining room, kitchen, family room and hallway. The concept was great, but they'd stained right over the contractor-grade flooring so there was a lot of pitting, discoloration from glue lines, and some very worn spots around the entryway and side doors. The scoring wasn't entirely even, either. 
Jon at Concrete by Design suggested grinding down the floor (to get rid of the old scoring), putting a thin overlay on top, then acrylic stain, solvent sealer and scoring. The bid came in significantly below the others, and Jon was really enthusiastic about the project. He was great at coming up with color combinations for the staining; the final choice was a diluted cola (orange-brown) and a slightly diluted walnut (deep brown) border. The scoring is an elongated diamond pattern, and it looks amazing.
The work was done in December 2012 when the house was empty, which simplified things. Since I didn't move in until the following month, the timing wasn't an issue. I do recall that the solvent flooring had a very strong odor for the first week or so when I was working on other things at the house, but that was almost entirely gone when I moved in. 
The flooring has held up very well over the last two years. There have been some slight chipping along a few score lines, but only noticeable if you're looking for them. 
I'm really, really pleased with how the floors came out. Jon had a great mix of aesthetic and technical expertise, and was really a joy to work with.
