He arrived at 12:46 and the inspector showed up at 2:20 (1 hr, 34 min). Most of the time the tech was in his truck smoking something or on the phone.
There was a gas leak and several other corrections that needed to be made.
The tech told me it would be an additional $1,400. I agreed only because in the restaurant business to be shut down over the weekend is terrible.
He was off and on my facility for the next 2 hours and 6 min. Most of this time was not spent working, he left once to get supplies, and then left again without telling me where he was going. I included this time in his "timed time."
I would of been okay with being extorted for a whopping $1,900 (my monthly salary) for less than three hours of work if he had called the inspector for an after hours inspection, passed inspection, and then asked for payment. BUT he called and another woman, Lana called me and were very rude and yelled at me on the phone because I refused to pay before inspection.
I offered a reasonable 30% and they refused and canceled my inspection. So my entire facility is shut down for the weekend.
I don't have a fancy restaurant with financial backing but starting by working to the bone earning $7/hr baking out of my home and selling to coffee shops. I do not appreciate plumbers who not only know you are desperate to keep your business running and extort you by manipulation (they "are running out of time and will leave" if you do not sign immediately for their price/ they "just got called for your permit, do you or don't you want it," and so on). I don't appreciate being told there are no other options but also demand to be paid before their work is even proven good.
Three other times in the past four years I have paid plumbers before inspection. Each of these times inspections have failed and I have had to hire a new plumber, pay for new permits and pay for the work to be redone. I have lost a total of $4,000 cash, months of lost profit, and a great deal of youth from these instances.
I also am suspicious at this point that the work was done correctly. I know for sure that the guy did not fix the connections necessary on my ovens to pass inspection. I also know that he cut into the middle of a metal 3/4 in pipe and replaced it. But I am not sure why the leak would be there when I was first told that the leak was by the connection to the Ansel system. Thus further reason to wait till inspection passes.
I also do not appreciate being yelled at on the phone when I offer to pay 30% and the rest after inspection. Their secretary was so nasty she made me cry on the phone (granted I have mommy hormones and been working since 7 am on this problem and awakened every three hours in the night feeding bottles to a newborn baby because I am on antibiotics,).
NEVER USE THIS COMPANY EVEN IF YOU ARE DESPERATE. THEY are the extortionist type of plumbers and very unprofessional.
Josh, the technician comes back to the house, installs a new gauge and sure enough there is a leak. I show him where all the valves are in the house and where the pipes are under the house. He says he sprayed soap looking for leaks and found numerous small leaks under the house and that the best way to make the repairs are to replace the entire gas system for $4,000. After losing about a week's worth of time while they were trying to diagnose the leak we read another review on Yelp that was eerie similar to our situation. Customer said Clarke Kent did the same thing. We called another plumber who quickly diagnosed the leak at 2 of the shutoff valves in the house and repaired it within a couple of hours for $300. Passed inspection and the gas was turned back on. The new plumber says there was only one fitting under the house that showed signs of being tested with soap, all the other fittings still had dirt and dust on them indicating that they were never sprayed.
Called Clarke Kent to complain and their attitude was very dismissive. "What if the other guy is lying?", "What if he does the repairs and you still have a leak and have to replace all the pipes anyway". Use at your own risk.
