Our realtor suggested to contact Scott Sanderson at Capstar Lending when we moved to Austin one year ago. During the first year at Austin, we were renting and making our mind on the area we would like to live at. 
When we were ready to buy, Scott offered us great advices on how to improve our credit score to get the best rate and 15 years loan.
Scott was responsive and very proactive. Even if the process of getting a credit has become more complicated since 2008, Scott made sure all the paperwork was done correctly.
At the end, we've got the rate we wanted and are very happy to be first-time homeowners.

On the recommendation of my neighbors I contacted Mark Abernathy at CapStar lending to refinance my first mortgage.  CapStar had rates that were better than my credit union, and the fees were among the lowest I've seen.  Mark responded to all my inquiries promptly, and made the process go just about as effortlessly as it can.  I provided CapStar all the documentation they requested when I decided to go with them.  Mark helped advise me on the right time to lock in, although of course the decision was up to me.  And then I essentially showed up at closing with the funds needed.  Very easy for a mortgage refi.

It was a pleasure working with Mark Abernathy at Capstar lending.  Mark is extremely upbeat, and great resource to talk to.  He worked with me and reassured me at every step of the way with everything that was going on in the mortgage process.  Mark was extremely responsive when it came to responding to my questions and requests, often with email or phone responses literally in 5-10 minutes.  With Mark's help I locked in the current all time low interest rate on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage, which is great.  I would highly recommend him to anyone else.

Note: I put $500 as the amount I paid for Capstar's services.  It's hard to put an exact number on this due to the way closing costs get thrown around, but this is a rough idea.

Jeff Seibert was recommended by a friend. I checked out Capstar Lending on Angie's list and was a bit vary because it had mixed reviews. But trusting our friend I decided to give Jeff a try and boy am I glad I did! Jeff Seibert of Capstar Lending went over and above the call of duty when processing our mortgage for us. Not only did he get us a great rate and keep his promise of no hidden fees or last minute surprises at the closing table, but relentlessly walked me through the mortgage process and answered each and everyone of my questions regarding purchasing a house even if it was not mortgage related. . We had heard horror stories from friends who had purchased houses on how they were suddenly told either at closing or a day before that they needed X amount more to close the house. So I was paranoid and had conveyed that to Jeff. He assured me that all he quoted was all we could expect and that there would be no surprises. He kept his word. Additionally, had it not been for Jeff we may not have bought the house. This was our first house. Because of the seller's personal life, there were many uncertainties right from the start and there were times I was at a loss on how to proceed. I tapped on Jeff each time all through the house buying process even when it was not related to the mortgage -- for example, the transaction nearly fell through a couple of times, or the title company was not responsive and each time Jeff came up with solutions on how to proceed. Had it not been for Jeff Seibert we probably would not have bought the house. So I am glad I went with my friend's recommendation and while I cannot testify for or against other people at Capstar Lending, I can say with certainty that if you work with Jeff, you will not be disappointed. You can count on him for integrity and excellent customer service. He was s pleasure to work with. I recommend him highly!!

Capstar was recommended by our realtor, which in hindsight is advice we should not have taken. At first Michael, from Capstar, was very receptive and helpful, and as we brought him our other quotes, he explained the differences and explained that his quote was actually honest compared to other companies. When confronted with a very competitive quote from a bank, he essentially tried to give us a guilt trip about how helpful he was and that he would be there to provide personal service. He also promised that he would lock us in at a particular rate and would lower it to match if rates went down. We wanted to support a local company instead of a faceless conglomerate bank, so we opted to stick with Michael. To make a long story short, Michael broke many promises and in the days before closing, was asking for documents that he should have requested weeks before. I was rather skeptical, but by this point I was stuck if I wanted to close my house on time. He also quit responding to my emails about lowered rates, and to top it off, didn't even show up to the closing as promised. In the end, my house did close on time, but at a higher rate than quoted with changed terms that I didn't learn of until actual closing. I have a pretty sour taste in my mouth and feel very ripped off, especially knowing the alternatives. Avoid Capstar like the plague.

At first, everything was great and I was very happy. Everything seemed smooth sailing until the week before closing. The Friday before my closing, I called to make sure everything was ready to go and I was told that my mortgage would be going up a bit (a bit is $25-50 in my book). Mine ended up going up more than $180 because someone did not pull the correct school tax and they just figured it out. If I had not called, nobody was going to tell me until the closing. My mortgage broker actually had the nerve to blame me and said that I provided them with the incorrect tax information from MLS. That's really not my job to figure out the tax rolls. That's what they are supposed to do along with the title company. You don't go blaming the buyer. NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Would I use them again? NO! Do I wish I had done more research? ABSOLUTELY! I feel as if I have been bait and switched.
