I believe in life, the universe gifts us people when we need them. Mike and his crew at Capitol City Wood Works were one of these universal gifts our family was lucky to receive. We met Mike about 6 months ago, shortly after my FIL had passed away and my MIL could no longer take care of the house. Our goal was to sell the house. The first problem...the back deck (55ft x 25ft) with a not working pool (33ft x 20ft) in the middle of the deck needed major repairs and code upgrades. The second problem, my husband & I live across the country & were overseeing the repairs from 1,300 miles away. Using Angie's list we found 3 different contractors to interview for the job. Each interview we stated we wanted the deck to be safe, use the structure that is there and look good. Mike was the only contractor that did two important things: 1. he sought to understand our unique situation of distance & selling the house 2: he listened to what we wanted for repairing the deck rather than a new build. Mike also brought in an outside engineer to make sure what he was telling us would work and be up to code. Working with Mike, his communication is superb. Any question we asked he sent timely, thorough responses. He included the costs and where he could save us money. When he didn't know the answer, he would research it and if he and his crew couldn't do the work, he would suggest who to contact. He treated my MIL's house as if it were his own mom's house. Mike and his crew were easy to work with. They took pride in and were detailed about the work they were doing. Because this job had two parts, we were also working with a pool company. When problems arose with the pool company, Mike asked if he could help. Mike easily worked with the pool company to help move the whole project along. The work on the deck was completed in approx 3 weeks, however, after meeting with our realtor and talking to Mike we added on a few more projects that would help sell the house. The CCWW team repaired the wood on an outside arbor as well as the plaster on an inside wall. They also repaired and stained an interior courtyard decking which involved shaving tree roots down, so the decking was smooth and up to code. Next, they power washed the cement back patio, the front of the house, driveway and garage door. Finally, they replaced the carpeting in the bathrooms with LVP. John, crew lead, did fabulously cutting all the angles for the primary bathroom. (There were- A LOT of angels.) The CCWW team intricately blended the transition from the LVP flooring to the cabinets, so it looked seamless. Our family highly recommends Capitol City Wood Works for any of your projects. Not only is their work outstanding, excellently priced, they are trustworthy, wonderful communicators, detailed and caring in what they do, this is also a veteran-owned, small business! Thank you Mike & crew for everything you've done to make a difficult time for our family, much easier to manage.

Michael Griffin from CCWW was a pleasure to work with.  He came out to my house on a Saturday afternoon to survey the job and provide me with a written estimate.  He was able to accommodate all of my requests and then some.  He suggested that my double gate be constructed of one front facing single gate and one back facing "hidden" gate.  It looks like I only have a single gate from the front which gives the fence more curb appeal.  In all I received three competitive estimates for the job.  CCWW was originally not the lowest bidder, however, Mike was able to work with me on the cost, and I felt like I got a very reasonable deal.

My job was originally scheduled for the 2nd week of June, however, in the days leading up to the install day we received several inches of rain.  I called Mike to reschedule for the following week so that my lawn had a chance to dry out.  He was able to change my install date without any issues.

Mike and his crew arrived promptly at 8am on the rescheduled install day.  We took one final walk to finalized a few of the particulars, and his crew got right to work removing the old fence that was still standing.  By noon they had completed digging the post holes, positioning some of the posts in concrete, installing the cross stringers and nailing a few feet of pickets.  Throughout the process, whenever they had a question, rather than just work around it, they always proactively alerted me of the situation, and we resolved the issue together.  This made a huge difference on two notable issues:

   1.  While digging one post hole they found out that the sprinkler head needed to be relocated so it did not interfere with a post.  Luckily, I had all the necessary parts, tools and PVC cement at the house, and within 5-10 minutes one of their guys had relocated the sprinkler head.

   2.  After they had nailed about 3 feet of pickets they noticed that the quality of the western red cedar pickets was not up to their normal standards.  They came and got me and showed me the problem.  I noticed the smooth, un-milled side of the pickets had dark streaks across them.  After inspecting the majority of the loose pickets, I decided I did not want any of the pickets used for my fence, and they stopped work immediately.  I discussed the issue with Mike, and he explained to me that technically the pickets met the "Grade 2" standard for pickets.  However, he agreed to talk to the supplier to see if the pickets could be exchanged for better quality "Grade 2" pickets.  In an effort to help resolve the situation, I accompanied Mike on the trip back to the picket supplier.  To make a long story short, we were able to get the supplier to exchange our pickets for better looking pickets in the same grade level.  Both Mike and I were happy with the outcome.  I was especially grateful that Mike allowed me to accompany him on the trip to the supplier and help convince them to exchange the pickets.

By the time we had arrived back to my house with the new pickets, everything had been completed except for nailing the pickets and building the gates.  Rather than rush the job and complete it before dark, Mike decided to have his lead craftsman return in the morning to complete the job.  His lead craftsman arrived promptly at 8am the next morning and began working.  He methodically positioned and nailed all the pickets and carefully constructed and installed the gates.  He consulted with me a few times to ensure things like gate placement and clearance issues were resolved.  By mid afternoon, my new fence was complete.  I am very pleased with the quality of work that Mike's crew delivered, and I especially appreciated their proactive communication along the way.  I would gladly hire Mike and his CCWW crew again in the future.

The crew had to tolerate the rainy spell when they could but they persevered.

The deck was well built, level and plumb, solid, made of quality materials and looks like the professional job that it was.

The crew was very industrious and courteous.  They cleaned up the site and removed all their equipment and debris at the finish of the job.

We are very happy with the completed product and look forward to many years of enjoyable use of it.

We would definitely employ their services if needed in the future.  We highly recommend Mike and his company.

I found them through a co-worker. They were really fantastic. My wife had some very specific ideas on the pergola. They were very patient in working with us and working on the ideas. They presented some of their ideas and worked back and forth and designed the thing. My wife was very happy with the pergola. It was exactly the kind of thing we're looking for. The crew did a really good job. They took their time to do it right. They recommended RoofCrafters. It's absolutely A all the way across. We're very satisfied with their work.

Great!  Michael came out and inspected the gate and entire fence.  He was honest in letting me know which posts needed to be replaced and which ones didn't.  He followed up with an estimate and was very timely in starting the job.  They arrived on time and completed the job when expected.  The quality of the work appears to be excellent!  I had contacted two other contractors about this job and never heard back from them so thank you Capitol City Wood Works for responding and showing up!
