Austin Deck Company – Wow and Thank You!!! Look no further if you want to hire a great company with rich history to build the deck of a lifetime. After Stephanie and I contacted Abe for a quote, it was apparent that he understood the scope of our project, and the challenges that he and his company would face, nevertheless, Abe was on our property in a quick manner to size up the job and was attentive to our vision, and directly put his knowledge and years of experience to work in making wise suggestions, and out of the box thinking. We had other quotes that were lower, (Austin Deck we not the highest), but in the end, we felt that the wide-ranging choice of deck materials that Abe could offer, (when other contractors only had a few choices), as well as the amount of detail that went into the site visit, quotation and care of the client, made it clear that Abe and his company were the right choice. We could not risk a project like this on unknown and unproven contractors. Abe provided multiple renderings and detailed information on our two-level deck build. We had multiple changes thought the design process and even in active construction, nevertheless Abe and his team were able to accommodate all changes. The deck build was very challenging as the location of the deck build was perched on massively sloped land that is cliff based overlooking the Lake Travis (Main Basin). Abe and his large crew showed up as expected on the first day, and Abe walked his crew through the design and construction elements of the job. The crew had the old deck demolished and the land prepared in 1 day. The crew had to mix more than 2 pallets of bagged concrete just for the 20 concrete footings that they had to lay into the even and uneven land. Multiple hours were spent with a jackhammer to get deep enough into the bedrock to ensure the job was done properly, but the crew handled it with ease. Abe and his team were extremely efficient and professional. The quality of the finished product far exceeded our expectations. The job was complete in 5 days! Stephanie and I can't thank Abe, his crew and Jennifer in the office enough for the wonderful job they did on our deck and the fabulous customer service that they provided. There is no doubt that we recommend Austin Deck Company to anyone looking for the best company to build a master planned, quality deck and decking services!

I cannot say enough about Austin Deck Company! We recieved a few proposals from a few other contractors and no one else compared to the level of professionalism, attention to detail, and quality that Walker and Austin Deck Company promised. From start to finish Austin Deck and their installers were the gold standard of craftsmanship and professionalism and were attentive to and followed through on every desire that we had in our deck replacement! I would 100% refer and use Austin Deck Company again and again!!!

Donny and his Austin Deck crew were truly exceptional. First, my wife and I were super pleased with the finished product. They truly took the time and extra effort to make sure every board, screw, cut lined up perfectly. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was flawless. For instance, there were supporting boards that had to butt up against an uneven stone walkway, and they carefully cut the boards to be flush against it. Really nice work. That's what separates the professionals from the inexperienced. Second, working with Austin Deck was truly a pleasure. Donny was quick to return emails and communicate. He spent the time to go over all the materials and options without being pushy. The crew was always friendly and worked hard and cleaned-up after themselves when they were done. Now, I'm sure if we looked around for a lower bidder or someone who could have started sooner, we could have found someone else. I'm so glad we didn't since Austin Deck surpassed our high expectations. These guys f'ing rock!

Abe from Austin Deck Company came over, gave a great assessment of what needed to be done, and came up with a couple of options to make the project fit within my budget. His crew was professional, courteous, quick, and the cleanup afterwards was amazing! I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again!

I can't believe I haven't rated Austin Deck Company until now! Back in early 2015 we got several quotes on a unique project we wanted built: a pergola over our existing deck with a strong enough structure to mount 30 solar panels on top (to shade the deck and simultaneously generate power), complete with structural engineering calculations to prove it could handle both the weight and significant wind up-lift forces. We also needed our contractor to work as a sub-contractor to our solar panel installers... which meant waiting to get paid by a third party. I work in mechanical engineering and provided Abe with my plans for the pergola. After visiting our home, he came up with modifications that made it both sturdier and more aesthetically pleasing than what I had envisioned. We LOVE having the "solar pergola" over our deck. We get a lot of compliments on it from friend, neighbors, and even a structural engineer! Now we are getting ready to replace the old deck, and we're talking to Abe again. Once again, he's a pleasure to interact with, and his expertise and professionalism are highly valued. I'll post photos of the solar pergola, and I'll update my review with our experience on the new deck.

Austin Deck Company did a phenomenal job. We had the best experience from start to finish. Abe was our point guy and he managed the project really well from the first consultation, to estimates, start dates, and updates on progress. Building the deck only took about a week and we've had it for 5 months now with no issues. They rebuilt the stairs to our patio and added an additional set of stairs on the opposite side of the deck. The craftsmanship is awe inspiring. Clean lines and perfectly level with our existing back porch.

Donny Van Court did an excellent job of coordinating the team and helping us with the city bureaucracy. His team did an excellent job on this project and we would definitely hire them again.

Working with Austin Deck Company was really a great experience. Abe and team were (and are) the utmost professionals. We discussed what we wanted and they were upfront with pricing, schedule, etc. Once underway, we received continual updates and the work was completed in an expeditious manner. There was one hiccup where one of the employees accidentally damaged one of the stones on the perimeter of the pool. Abe and team took it upon themselves to contact the pool company themselves and perfectly matched the stone and covered the price of the repair. I would highly recommend these folks to anyone looking to get deck work done.

Abe came out twice to make sure the quote and design were exactly what we wanted. Anytime I had a question or change to the plan he responded extremely quickly. Once everything was finalized, the removal process of old decking, repairs, and construction of new deck all went very smoothly. I was impressed with the work ethic of the deck crew and they built the deck with a sense of pride and workmanship. There was one issue that came up with the design of the deck, and some stairs were not put in exactly how I expected. Abe promptly ordered the required additional materials, and the crews showed up on time when scheduled. Highly recommended company, excellent work and punctual, they work to make things right, they value workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Working with Austin Deck and Abe was enjoyable from beginning to end.  He came out to give us a bid and, at the same time, pointed out many problems with our old and poorly built deck.  He explained the correct way to rebuild it and described why.  He had good ideas for materials, railing, steps, etc.  
His price was in line with our other bid.  We had a specific request (that the nails on the surface of the deck be hidden) which he readily accommodated.
His crew was professional, hard-working, and very friendly.  They were finished in about 3 days which was on schedule.  Cleanup was done by a different company the next day.  Because we were concerned about all the nails, screws and other metal from the demo, Abe sent out one of his workers to look for things like that  in the grass.  The following day, he came back with a big magnet to remove more sharp metal things.
Abe was very patient in answering all our questions and explaining the construction process.  We would definitely recommend him to others for the quality of his company's work and the total experience of working with him and his crew.

It was wonderful!  This has been the most satisfying and successful home remodeling project I can recall.  We can recommend them most highly without reservation.
 We invited four deck companies to make bids on the job.  Only three showed up.  Of the three, only Abe correctly pointed out the problem with the present deck, which involved the ends of boards rotting out over underlying joists where the boards were attached, and demonstrated a construction technique to avoid this problem in the new deck.  One of the other suppliers did mention the rotting board ends, but didn't describe a fix.  The other vendor thought the main problem was that the deck was out of level.  One supplier estimated that it would take them two weeks to complete the job.  Abe said it would be a two-day job for them.  The Austin Deck bid was in the middle of the prices given.
Job performance was outstanding. The three-man team arrived on the day and at the exact time promised, introduced themselves, and worked efficiently.  They kept us informed of their progress, and had the job completed in the two six-hour days predicted by Abe.  We just couldn't be happier with our new deck!

From our initial meeting with Abe we were impressed with his professionalism. He answered all our questions and those we didn't think of asking, and was around or available during construction. We felt what we were charged was more than reasonable for the quality of the work done and the time spent with us during the planning stage. His crew was quiet, worked diligently and the site was left very clean. Without hesitation we would recommend Abe Oeltjin of Austin Deck Company - they certainly exceeded our expectations.

The job was delayed because of materials, however the supplier came through and the decking went in earlier than expected. While doing the decking, they also added the 4x4 bracing to improve the stability of the deck.  The job went quickly and they were done in a very short amount of time, leaving the area clean of all debris. At my request, they left some of the scraps so I can make something to match the decking.
The railing was installed about two weeks later. Overall, the job appears to be very good however we did find about a half-dozen fragments of railing in the yard. Fortunately, this was done before we mowed.
Austin Decking worked with us and reduced the price a bit after I said I could remove and dispose of the old PT decking and cedar railing. (We placed that on the curb with some fencing, ran a Craigslist ad, and it was gone almost immediately.)
Now that the job is finished, we no longer look at it as a "repair" (the railing was getting dangerous given the 14' drop to the ground) but as an actual enhancement to the home. We'll use the deck more and it will add to our home's value.

Abe came for the initial estimate. He gave us some good ideas. Quotes from 2 other companies were ultimately not any lower for similar quality of work. We made some adjustments that brought the price lower and the design more to our liking. Our main concern was the structural strength of the older deck that was to support the pergola. Abe addressed our concerns very well and described how the posts would be supported.
The original date of work was several weeks out but a window opened within a day and the crew came promptly, built the pergola, repaired parts of the old deck, reinforced the railing etc. beautifully. The crew was very professional and efficient.
We are very happy with the whole experience and highly recommend this company for any kind of deck projects.
