I smelled some smoke late one summer Saturday night in my living room. After running in circles for about 5 minutes looking for a fire, the smoke dissipated. But so did our A/C's cold air! Yikes, August in Texas during a string of triple digit heat days! I've seen this movie, and the family dies... But no, I called Apex Heating and Air Conditioning on Sunday morning at 9AM for emergency service, not expecting an answer. But John answered within a minute! By 11AM John arrived and quickly, he wired around a failed Lennox furnace control board in the attic, which also controls the A/C and fan. He had it "fixed" before noon! "The control board is fried", he said, "so the only way to put cold air in the house (and keep you alive) is to run the fan continuously. Don't touch the thermostat's on-off switch until I get back to you on Tuesday." $85, please. I would have paid twice that not to become a thermal zombie due to 10 days of August Texas heat! (But don't tell John that, please.) John visited me again on Tuesday, and said, "Well, I've got good news and bad news, which do you want first?". I prefer good news. "The good news is that Lennox has the board and it is in town." "The bad news is they are very proud of it, and want $1000 for it!" "Wow", I said, "$1000 for a printed circuit board with two magnetic switch relays and 5 capacitors and resistors?" "It's that or get a new furnace, and probably a new HVAC since Freon is going end of life in a few years." So, we chewed on that for a few days. But hated the old furnace because it sucked dust and ran constantly. And we had discussed replacing it earlier in the Spring. So we went in for the new furnace and compressor. John's price quote was reasonable, in the way of these things, $10,300 for a 16 SEER preferred Bryant compressor and furnace, installed including tax. Bryant is a sub-brand of Carrier (uses the same parts and manufacturing line). It is cheaper than Carrier for the same equipment quality and guarantee. A week later John came with his 5 subcontractor installer team and put in the new HVAC. They knew their jobs well and worked around one problem in the size of the attic access. No sweat-- for me. John also installed a new Honeywell WiFi Thermostat for basically cost, $300, and moved the old compressor away from our bedroom window. The latter cost extra, but considering the work I saw the team do, installing a new concrete pad, wiring and rerouting the coolant lines, $1000 was not unreasonable, and it is what we wanted from a noise standpoint. The whole job took about 6 hours. The new system works great using a slightly larger filter and fan than the old system, which I believe was underpowered. I liked that John was sharp enough to do his own sizing correctly for our large and sun-exposed house. A great thing about Apex (it's just John plus contractors) is that, stunningly, he contacted me promptly and came to the house if there was something difficult to explain. These days, that is superb service. Hire him, you will profit by it. Below is a photo of the new compressor on it's pad, and, of course, the Texas triple-digit weather stopped two weeks later, so photo is through a rainy window screen, sorry about that.

The service went great. John Tran, the owner, performed the repairs. He was very honest and super professional. He performed the work in a timely manner. He checked all the ducts to ensure that my filters weren't clogged as well. To my recollection, he also put up a smoke alarm for me that he noticed was down.

Had not used Apex before. Read reviews on Angies list and called him. Spoke with him directly. It was a rental home so he contacted the tenant and arranged to go out and inspect the unit that was not operating (this was the morning of an Ice storm in Austin). Diagnosed the issue and fixed it promptly. Also informed me that the filter looked like it had not been replaced in a while. This is nice to know and I will have to address that issue with the tenant. Upon fixing the problem, John took the time to explain what he fixed and suggested additional ways to properly maintain the system to lengthen it's life. Overall, it was a very positive experience and will certainly call on Apex again when the time comes.

Very well. I was extremelrey pleased with the work and he didn't try to soak me on the charges.I don't recall the cost. I waited to do the review to make sure the work held up. Will definitely call him again to fix the broken flue

'Called several A/C repair companies. APEX was the first to call me back so I went with them. It is a one-man operation, run by a guy named John. I have a 17 year old A/C unit that has had its share of issues lately, but I was not ready to drop a few grand on a brand new unit. A year ago, another company serviced my unit and suggested I spend a few hundred cleaning the coils on the inside unit. I decided to wait. When John showed up I asked him to check those coils first, to gauge whether this guy was legit. He reached inside with his camera phone, took a picture, and showed me. He said, 'The coils aren't in horrible shape. Considering this unit only has a couple years left, it probably isn't worth cleaning them." It was refreshing that he wasn't trying to nickel-and-dime me. He ended up recharging the freon and changing some old capacitors. It wasn't a steal-of-a-deal, but it wasn't expensive either. All in all, I would use this guy again.

Jon has provided us service ever since we bought our house. He has helped us restore life into our two old units that came with our foreclosure. They had not been serviced in who knows how long, and the first two visits he basically restored/ rebuilt/ rehabilitated both units. He has provided very sound advice and gone above and beyond. He knows his craft well. Last winter our emergency heat wouldn't come on, and he took our frantic call, while on vacation, and fixed the problem. He is easy to reach and talk to and I trust all his advice. I highly recommend that you have him do spring and fall maintenance because he has found several problem before they became emergencies.

John (the owner of Apex) arrived on time (I had forgotten the appointment). He quickly, but thoroughly, completed my spring check up, replaced a part (at no cost to me) and left me feeling good about my air conditioning for the season. John is always looking for economical solutions for my heating and air conditioning needs. I'm very grateful to have him for these services. He keeps my old air conditioner running.

John showed up on time, found a wiring problem, corrected the problem, Freon was about 3 pounds short. He add the necessary freon. I would be happy to use Apex again when ever I have an A/C or heating issue.
