I emailed the dimensions of my couch along with a photo of my sofa to Shirley Alvarez, and she came back with a price to reupholster. I purchased custom fabric, delivered the sofa to their business and just got it back yesterday, on time and beautifully executed. I am completely thrilled with the workmanship, the quality and the attention to detail. It was pricey, but I do not regret choosing them for this project.

Shirley and Jim came to our home to evaluate the work necessary and provide an estimate. We were impressed with their cordial attitude and the depth of their experience. The quote was very reasonable and the turnaround time of the work was amazing. We enjoy having the renewed life Alvarez Upholstery has breathed into our sofas. I would not hesitate to refer Alvarez Upholstery to anyone.

The Alvarez's contacted me quickly and set me up with a date range to begin the repairs.  The final costs were spot on the estimate.  Jim found some mechanical problems that I was not aware of and repaired them at a small extra cost.  It is a small professional shop surrounded by work that he is working on.  I would recommend him to anyone.

It is a family business and they are doing it for a long time. Very high quality work. I chose them over other companies since they had great reviews.

They are thoroughly professional, helpful, and friendly at every step. I got in touch by phone. Shirley gave me her email address so I could send photos of the couch. I had side and front pictures and the dimensions. From that, she was able to give me an estimate and tell me how much fabric to buy. She advised me about a good fabric for a house with dogs (microfiber microsuede.)

They're busy, so I had to get on their calendar. They booked me for about a month after my call. We kept in touch by email; for example, I let Shirley know when the fabric arrived. I wrote again the last week of October to see if we could fix a date, which we did. They came and picked up the couch on a Wednesday. It was ready a week and a half later. And it's lovely; I'm delighted with the results.

I did my comparison shopping and found that while Alvarez seemed to be the highest bid, their bid included pick-up and delivery. Other outfits left that to me to arrange -- most movers have a minimum, so that could be as much as $150. Other outfits also estimated more fabric, which, at $30/yard, adds up pretty fast.

All in all, I couldn't be happier. Alvarez Upholstery is highly recommended.

OMG!!!! They are amazing! I love my 10 year old kitchen sectional originally from Ballard Design. It is very high quality furniture and I wanted to re-cover it vs. replace. HOWEVER, as I called around for estimates, giving sectional dimensions, need for extra and quot;stuffingand quot; etc, the prices were horrendous!! I was quoted labor prices of 2500.+ excluding extra pillows or stuffing. I had about given up thinking it ridiculous to spend 3x what I paid for it excluding fabric! And then I read about Alvarez Upholstery on Angie's list. The reviews were only outstanding about them personally as well as professionally. And the reviews were right! Husband and wife upholsterers working out of their home in far north Austin. Alvarez family has been in upholstery business for generations and Jim told me he learned everything he knew from his father. He assured me I would be amazed at my and quot;newand quot; sectional, and I was! He included free and quot;stuffingand quot; and took the 3 matted down pillows I took him to recover and said he stripped the batting apart as to fluff up the pillows, and ended up not charging me at all for making the pillows out of the extra fabric he had to work with. They are so sweet and very proud of their high quality workmanship, as they should be! When I originally called, Shirley told me they had work ahead of me, and could get to my work within 2 weeks, and thought it wouldn't take more than 1 week to complete. She stayed true to her word on both accounts! My ONLY REGRET is I don't have more furniture in need of upholstery!!

Great. The rocking chair looks brand new, probably better than it did when new! It now has and quot;buttonsand quot; down the back, a neat skirt all around the base, and he made arm covers and a and quot;headrestand quot; cover for the back of it as well. The pattern I chose had a very wide repeat but he did match it anywhere he could and it looks wonderful. This chair has wood detailing on it, and it cannot have been easy to work around the wood, but he did it. It looks absolutely beautiful. (Only problem is that now the rest of the LR furntiture looks terribly shabby by comparison.) The price I paid included pick-up and delivery, extremely reasonable at $45, plus an extra cover made for a rectangular and quot;memory foamand quot; pillow. The Alvarezes are so nice and friendly, a real pleasure to work with. They also suggested where to look for fabric (Interior Fabrics on Burnet Road) and I was very pleased with the selection there; and the yardage they told me to buy was exactly correct with a bit left over. I am already planning my next reupholstery job.

They were the first to respond out of all my inquiries to several shops and once I gave the info to them as to what I needed done, they were (again) super quick to reply. We learned that they are a 3-generation upholstery company and they have broad experience. The results are incredible! The chair looks brand new and is even in better shape than when I purchased it. Their work is impeccable and it looks better than what I expected. Their quote was more than fair and lower than several other upholsterers in town and they did even more than I expected by adding extra padding (at no extra charge, unlike other shops that quoted extra charges for every single thing). From the time I contacted them through the end, they were always very responsive (unbelievably quick to reply), friendly, professional, honest, knowledgeable and reliable. They called when they said they would call, they gave very accurate estimates on time, they kept us updated, and they were a delight to deal with as well. I highly recommend this company.

It went great. I had been expecting it to be difficult, but a phone call went well, so I took them over. He said no problem, and he could get them back to me in just a day, so it was fast, well-done, and reasonably priced.

They did a great job and the cushions are beautiful.

Picked up chairs and brought them back. Asked good follow up questions. Work was excellent

They have fabrics you can order, but they agreed we had a better deal with what we found. We had to wait a few weeks for them to start the chairs, but they finished them in good time, and kept in touch while we were waiting. It was worth the wait! Lovely work! They will pick up and deliver but we had a truck. We will certainly use them again.

I was very happy with them. I spent around $500 on that job. The job was beautiful. The material I had chosen was heavy duty and I know it must have been difficult. It was not a simple upholstery job and they did a fantastic job. They did it in the time they said they would and I was super pleased with them. I had got estimates from others and they were not out of line.
