"To find our customer was dissatisfied with the job came as a surprise to us We have been in the Home improvement business a long time and rely on customer communication when they feel something is not quite right. We worked with her and her scheduling so that she would be there to inspect and approve the forms as the work progressed. The “unsupervised, unqualified” worker is actually our Concrete Foreman, who has years of experience and can read plans and diagrams. When the customer pointed out items she was not happy with during the framing and forming, we went to great lengths to change them (within reason) and appease her. Again, the customer had the opportunity to voice her concerns or opinions instead of approving the forms and allowing the concrete to be poured. The total project diagram was included in her original signed contract. (including the easement part of the driveway and the sidewalk ) We always inquire about irrigation systems and help the customer by referring reputable companies to relocate or cap off sprinkler heads when we know it will be in the area of construction The customer has not contacted the office regarding any “buckling” or even that she was not happy with the completed work. In fact , she showed no concerns in the layout until the job was completed and balance was due. We work very hard to accommodate our customers in improving their homes with our services. Unfortunately, as in life, there are times of misunderstanding, but we strive to do everything in our power to resolve the issue with the customer. Sincerely AGR"
I knew I wanted some kind of cover or pergola but wasn't really sure what, and was at a loss about a cost efficient way to deal with the slate. I must have called 10 deck and patio companies and the majority of them would not return estimates or were very unhelpful in coming up with a solution for me, or wanted to do a $25000 makeover.
I found All Good here on Angie's List and was impressed with the variety of covers on the website. Mark arrived and immediately his mind began churning. He suggested that we pour 3 inches of concrete directly over the slate, and install an aluminum patio cover complete with three fans. He also gave me ideas for 'phase 2' of the project.
The concrete guys were fast and professional and cleaned up after themselves.
We absolutely loved Paul and Tracy, the husband and wife who installed our patio. Our children adored them. Paul went above and beyond, installing a new piece of wood on my door and a matching porch light on the garage and hooks for my plants. Tracy is a horticultural guru and gave me much advice about my yard, and they even pruned my lemon tree for me. Y'all, they brought us fresh eggs from their chickens! At the end of the job, they arranged the furniture back on the new patio and left it spic and span.
Mark was very professional throughout the entire process and everything was done exactly according to plan.
This was a lot of money for us, and therefore we were nervous that we would not be happy with the result. We are thrilled to say that it exceeded our expectations.
"Regarding this customer, it is obvious that no one knows who broke what underground where the customer ordered the work. We are a concrete contractor and we express to all our customer that any sprinkler system underground in the area of construction is the customer's responsibility to remove, we even go as far as to refer them to a certified sprinkler company prior to scheduling our work so that this is not an issue."
"I will contact this customer regarding the broken tile, there is no record of him calling the office to report it. Also the Big Deal states that there is a minimum of 300 sq ft per job and that there is an average of $1300 to do a job that size with the big deal is a credit off that amount."
Ps. We have had several heavy rains since installation with no problems.
AGR was the only contractor (and I interviewed 4) that was willing to find and use the rustic tree posts that we wanted for the support columns. The issue here being, that in the future we would like to screen part of the patio in, and with the posts being round, other contractors said that wouldn't be possible. Mark, with AGR, said he could do it, and it would be as bug proof as if we used traditional square 4x4 posts. We were going for a rustic, country, open rafter look, with the cedar tree posts, and cedar rafters and headers. It turned out great! The rafters are rough cut cedar, the posts are tree trunk cedar, and the ceiling is 2x6 yellow pine. I bought Sikken Cedar stain and his painter subcontractor did and excellent job staining the whole thing and matching the 3 different wood types so that they all blend naturally.
We had one issue with the quality of one of the rafters. As soon as I bought it to Mark's attention, he had his foreman remove the decking that was already installed and replace the defective rafter before going any further.
The only negative aspect of the whole project is the actual concrete extension. My backyard slopes down pretty good, so there was a noticeable large drop off on one end of the patio. So Mark suggested adding wrap around stairs during the concrete pour, and that's what we did. We now wish we would have continued the stairs the entire length of the patio. It is still a large drop off (>10 inches), which is not only uncomfortable but a bit dangerous. The workers added a bunch of dirt before they left, but that still did not rectify the issue, and we just had rain, so that is all washed away now anyway (exposing the ugly left over concrete). I wish the "professional" concrete guys would have brought the drop off height to my attention, and we would have extended the steps all the way around. I inquired about adding steps after the fact, but it seems it would not be cost effective due to the concrete companies minimum order requirements.
The other issue with the patio extension is parts of it a very rough and unable to walk on without shoes. It seems I have to have the concrete guy back out to "buff" it down... for an extra charge of course.
Overall, the patio cover looks great and is just what we envisioned. I only wish the concrete guys had as much attention to detail as the construction guys and the painter.

AGR had their concrete guy come back out to repair the rough concrete. It feels and looks great now!
