When Advanced Refinish came out in 2/23 to change my whirlpool tub into a soaking tub by removing the jets and filling in with Bondo or whatever product they used and then reglazed the tub, I initially left a glowing review. I am revising that. A year later a small hole appeared in the tub. After a few visits to try to figure out why and not being able to figure it ouit, they refunded 450.00 (half) of the original job and suggested they couldn't do anything else because they had no idea why it was failing. After about a week or two of studying the situation, I realized it occurred at the junction of one of the Bondo repair and the original tub. I called back to see if they would send someone out to repair it at some sort of cost to me, as yet to be determined. The initial tradesman came out and repaired it in 30' and charged 100.00. That repair survived 2 baths and then another crack between the repair and the tub in a different part of the repair edge. Taking pictures this morning, I see it was actually two cracks, one long and one short. I wondered if maybe the weight of the water caused it to flex and break (similar to the reason you don't caulk a tub unless it is filled with water). Could be part of it, but I also noticed a crack starting in a non-waterbearing part of the tub on top horizontal surface near the faucet where the on/off switch once was. NO reason for that to fail. I'm going to try to repair it myself this time. Probably won't work, but I want to try. This is likely a good company for many other purposes, but I can't recommend them - certainly not the process of converting a whirlpool tub. I think a company ought to understand its limitations. The job just wasn't done well. I'm sorry I ever did this because it was expensive and the 5 year warranty in this situation means nothing. I wish I had put the money towards removing this tub, something they don't do. Also, look closely at the pictures and you can see a lot of pock mark/bubbles and such. a little rough on the skin when bathing! I think a lot of dirt came through the open windows when they were putting on the coating. Probably need a cleaner way to do it. Might be able to post the pictures taken for this review in another window, maybe not. If not, one crack is about 1/2"-1" long, the other smaller. The failure on top is about 1/4 of the circular repair.

Our 20 year old porcelain tub had dark circular stains from using a rubber mat, which we made worse by trying to remove with Soft Scrub (and who knows what else). In addition, it had a few chipped pieces (one as big as a nickel). I procrastinated getting it fixed for years and, finally, decided to get it refinished last week. After looking at reviews in Angies' List, I called Advanced Bathtub Refinishing and spoke to Peter. He gave me a quote over the phone and I scheduled an appointment. The appointment was a breeze (at least for us). Freddy arrived on time and finished the work in 3 to 4 hours. When he left, everything looked perfect-- no mess whatsoever. Having a beautiful tub again is worth living with the temporary smell and the little inconvenience of not been able to use the tub for a few days. We are very happy with the results. I only regret not having taken pictures of the tub before the work was done--the results are striking.

The customer service and final product were great! It looks new. There was definitely a strong smell for a couple days after they finished, but that didn't surprise me. I may choose to hire them again to refinish the bathroom counters at some point.

Price was higher than advertised. Owners stated he uses lower price in ad to attract business.
Response from ADVANCED BATHTUB REFINISHING
"This review obviously belongs to another company. 1. We've never worked on [Member Information Removed] in Round Rock before, or for this person. 2. We have a minimum of $400 so we wouldn't be doing a job for $230. 3. We would never tell somebody that we advertise a lower price and then charge a higher price! I believe that this person has us confused with a less professional company."

Peter was quick to respond, quote, and book the job. Even with a little delayed start his guys were in and out, with very little sign they were there. 40 year old tubs look new. Thanks again!

Okay, so I am not a big fan of bathtub refinishing and, in general, it's also expensive, but it had to be done. I think this company did a good job.
One tub had significant rust (2and quot; x 9and quot;) beneath the drain. The second tub had chips and holes in the enamel and a small amount of rust around the drain. The sink had rust around the overflow holes and the drain.
I give the company an and quot;Aand quot; for their service. The tubs and sink are beautiful. They are almost too nice-looking to use. The bottom of the tub I use daily does feel gritty in places, but I don't think bathtub resurfacing is a perfect art. You can't see the gritty spots. You only feel them. The tubs look new, and the work is guaranteed for 5 years.

Update:
Peter was nice enough to come out and smooth the grittiness from the tub so this is no longer an issue. I'm still waiting for him to remove the small spots of rust around the drain hole that reappeared. Hopefully that will happen today. I'll give an update when it's taken care of.

"Hi [member name removed], thank you for the review, it's very nice that you took the time to write it. Victor can go by and run the polisher over those tubs and get rid of the gritty spots, just give me a call & I'll schedule a time. It only takes about an hour. Thank you, Peter"

Peter had an opening and was able to do the job a week before we'd scheduled. Victor did the work, I liked working with him, although I just removed the drains and got out of his way. The finished work looks great. I've never had this done before, and since this is in a rent house, I hope to get 5+ years out of the refinish. Ultimately, the bathrooms need a full remodel.
Happy with the company, a good experience.

Vicktor did an excellent job of refinishing the tubs and sinks in two bathrooms and returned to address a few issues after the first visit. We ran into some problems in scheduling the follow-up visit, but ultimately I was pleased with the outcome. Since we have a third bathroom, the delay in the follow-up work did not cause too much inconvenience.

Victor removed old drain and overflow cover, protected all bathroom
products and fixtures, and refinished the tub to perfection! He went
above and beyond showing me cleaning tricks and tools, and he answered
all my questions promptly. Peter was also quick to respond to all my
emails regarding warranty, price, and scheduling. Thanks!

I was very impressed with this company. The lighting was really bad in the small bathroom this tub was in and a few imperfections in the finish couldn't be seen until the next day. I had already paid them and was a little concerned about having to call them back. They were apologectic and came right away to smooth out these imperfections. The ending result was a beautiful bathtub and a wonderful experience with this company. I whole heartedly recommend them!

The refinish job looks great - 9 months later)
The refinish guy came promptly at the reserved time, and did an excellent job of getting everything prepared for work - he even rerouted and taped up my leaky faucet so it wouldn't interfere with the job. Once the tub refinish was complete, he cleaned up quickly, provided us with care instructions and answered all our future care questions.

Peter, the owner, was responsive to our several questions (we had
several e-mail exchanges before we scheduled the service). Chris, the
repairman, came on time, wore shoe covers to protect our carpet and did a great
job refinishing the tab.
Pricewise I did not shop around before choosing the service Provider, but chose him by
the number of positive reviews and the info on the Provider's web-site. The quoted fee
was less expensive than a bath tab replacement and the repair allowed
us to keep the current bath for now.
We've used the bath quite a lot since the repair was done. I cleaned it with
the liquid non-abrasive cleaning solution (I used Green Works). So far so good
and I like what I see.
While you must not use the suction cup mats on the refinished surface, which was a
surprise to me, the refinished surface is no more slippery than the new bath surface (it seems to
me it is less slippery).
We hope this repair will stay in during the warrantied five years or more, and if
I face the same need to refinish a bath tub again I will call Peter.
Thank you
Dmitry

This review is way overdue, but on Angie's List today and finally getting around to my tardy post. Originally had Advanced Bathtub Refinishing out to refinish our two tubs back in December or 2010. (Did an outstanding job and we were delighted with the work and how great both the tubs looked.) In January of this year (2013), I contacted Peter re: some minor peeling that was occurring around one of the drains in one of the tubs they'd refinished. Peter sent out a crew member within the week to fix the area that was peeling, at no charge. There were no questions, no arguments, and absolutely no hassles with getting the area repaired - they just came out and fixed it. And here it is 9 months later and the fix and the original refinishing all look and are holding up great. KUDOS on original and warranty work well done!
