After poor customer service, long waiting periods on the phone, numerous disconnections and technicians who ARE NEVER on time, we found out today that ADT renewed our account for 3 years without our permission. My first question to its sales department was what happens in the event the house is sold, and I was told it was not a problem to cancel the service. Now, I am being told there is a huge fee to cancel the contract. You cannot cancel from the website and you cannot delete your credit card information from the website. ADT Services is both fraudulent and deceptive. We WILL NEVER use them again and would NEVER recommend it to anyone for any reason.
Here's the kicker, even IF I had wanted to transfer my ADT service to my new home, it is not possible! YOU CANNOT TRANSFER ADT SERVICE - IT STAYS WITH THAT ADDRESS! I would have to start a completely NEW 3 YEAR contract at my new address. So, technically, I would be responsible for TWO security services.. No, they said, for a minimum fee, (of several hundred dollars) I could have service at my NEW home & not have to continue the contract at my OLD home!
BUT since I moved & didn't select ADT as my security company this time, I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SERVICE AT THE OLD RENTAL PROPERTY! I HAVE TO PAY FOR SERVICES EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT RECEIVING THOSE SELF-SAME SERVICES! The only way I can get out of the contract is to pay 75% of the remaining monthly payments ($800.00)!
I think, when someone moves, that should be a good enough reason to be let out of a contract. THEY WOULD BREAK THE CONTRACT - IF I STARTED A NEW ONE WITH THEM!
WHY IS IT THAT I CANNOT HAVE THE SAME OPTION?

Second, I accidentally opened a letter sent my ADT to the former owner of this house at our address. (Usually mail to the former owner is forwarded.) This letter contained our security password! The letter states that ADT is committed to protecting our security; so why are they sending out our safety information to the people who no longer live here? We have called ADT about this. We get the response that they don't know how this could have happened. They have asked that we fax a copy of the letter to them, which we have now done twice. They do not call back as they have promised.
Between these two issues, we are paying for inadequate service and can get no one in ADT's customer service department to work with us.

I gave a overall grade of F because you should hold the company, supervisor and reps accountable when they tell you something and they don't follow through. That is bad business period.
Don't make promises you don't intend to keep.

"The member's contract has been adjusted to a 2 year term. There was initial confusion during the consultation and installation of his system. ADT is committed to the peace of mind for all of our customers. In most instances we offer a 3 year term. We have corporate alliances with certain organizations that allow for a 2 year term."
