Everything went well. They showed up when they were supposed to. The rep was very knowledgeable and professional. My husband had some questions regarding sound buffering, and much to my delight he informed my husband that what he wanted to do was not a good idea and could cause undue wear on the units, causing major problems. Everything went well, no problems, will call this company again when needed in the future.

Our AC hadn't bee operating correctly since the previous summer (cycling on/off every 30-seconds to a minute). I finally broke down and called A-Plus because they had received positive reviews on Angie's List. I was concerned we were going to need to replace our entire HVAC unit (always prepare myself for the worst). The technician arrived the day I called even though it was a non-emergency (the AC still ran, and the weather was still cool). He quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad blower motor. Between the previous home owner's pets and our pets, well, we all should have been replacing the filters a lot more frequently than we had been (lesson learned!). All of that pet hair over the years did some damage to the blower motor. The technician (can't remember his name - sorry) fixed the problem within a couple of hours and was professional. I rated them an A for price. I didn't call to get estimates from anyone else, but I heard from a reputable source that the price we were charged was fair. Also, the technician let us inspect the blower motor, and I agreed that it wasn't salvageable. So, as best I can tell, they deserve an A for price. A representative from the company just called for a follow-up to see how the unit was performing, so I appreciate that little bit extra in regards to customer service. If we ever need HVAC work performed again (and I really, really hope we don't), then we will definitely call A-Plus.

I recently deleted all my reviews due to my concerns about Angie's List inadequate privacy policy, especially in regard to health-care providers. I'm putting this review back up because A-Plus deserves credit for their excellent work. The equipment is working great and my utility bill has gone down. They clearly explained the work order, warranties and how to submit for the rebates and credits. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Installed new high efficiency HVAC system, weatherproofing and insulation. Cost after rebates and credits was approximately $4400.00

They showed up when they said they would, they did what they said it would. It cost what they said it would. Everything was well within expectations. This was on a rental property, so I can't speak to the cooling and efficieny of the new unit, but I do know that my tenants are happy.

We wanted to replace our 20-year-old systems before another hot summer began. We got five estimates from companies we reviewed on Angie's List, and A-Plus had the best price and good reviews that mentioned the company's long-term employees. We were treated much better as prospects than we were as customers. Our impression is that if one or two key employees are not there, communication and organization goes out the window. We paid half the estimated price when we placed the order. We were given an install date for the end of May. The install date came and we did not hear anything from A-Plus. When I called to find out why no one showed up, I heard from Debi that she had been out sick and Greg Yamin, the owner, had changed the schedules. He was working on calls where people had no air conditioning. We totally understood why those calls would need higher priority; however, I did question why no one called us to tell us that the installation would be postponed. Debi said she would call me back once she had figured out what the new schedule was. Three days later I called again after not hearing from her and worked out a new install date. We were supposed to get a call before they came out but did not. The morning of the install, Greg had misplaced our folder with the information, rebate forms and registration paperwork and asked for our copy of the invoice to direct the installers. Frank and Luis did a good job of the install and cleanup. We did pay $85 for a sound-reduction package that we cannot tell if we got. The inside unit is no quieter than our old unit that was replaced. The city inspector said he did not see anything in the closet that would help with sound reduction. I reviewed the rebate forms before submitting them to the city and Texas Gas, and the serial and model numbers were incorrect. If I had not caught the errors, our rebates would have been delayed. The same was true of the online registration with Lennox for our extended parts warranty. We have friends who were very pleased with A-Plus for their HVAC maintenance. They even felt guilty because they chose another vendor for a new install. Maybe the company is better on maintenance. We felt they had a total disregard for our time and the inconvenience they caused us. Greg called to say he "probably" owed us an apology for not communicating with us, but it did not seem particularly sincere.

I know my HVAC unit and zoning needed an upgrade, so I sought out some well-known and well-regarded (Angie's List reviews) local businesses for an analysis of how they would solve my problem. Based on Angie's List feedback I was particularly interested in the A+ approach and cost. Greg came out right on time on 8/9 and quickly noted some issues and proposed remedies. He was obviously extremely knowledgeable and competent in his analysis. He told me he would be in touch with a proposal and would telephone me to go over it. I know it's a busy time for HVAC professionals and so I did not follow up with a status on my proposal immediately. However, 2 other local companies that came to bid the job did so in writing within 3 days of the site visit. I spoke to Greg on 8/16 who told me that he had an inquiry with a supplier regarding something to do with the zoning for my job and he would be back in touch. Well, I heard nothing from A+ for another week, so on 8/23 I spoke to Debbie at the office and told them I would no longer be needing their services. Still, based on the positive feedback from other Angie's listers I was disappointed that A+ did not follow through with an estimate.

Not giving a bid seems to get me into trouble every time! I wasn't comfortable with what was needed and would have felt better about it if I could have gotten my manufacturer rep to call me back. It started last year, August 2012. We came back from a long vacation and our AC was not working and the house was frying. From Angieslist, we determined the highly ranked AC service company: A+. The technician came, replaced the capacitor, still didn't work. Did some more troubleshooting, called someone else to look into it and they finally said the compressor needs to be replaced. I asked them many times if the compressor was in warranty. They said no. They asked for ~$2200 for the new compressor. As soon as we asked for some time and said we are goign to look for a second opinion, they became sour and told us that we needed to pay for all the labor hours they spent. After they left, they sent us this huge bill: $384. In the meantime, I called another service company (CSC) for a second opinion. The first thing David Clark asked me is if the compressor was in warranty, he asked for the seral number and all. He determined that the compressor was in warranty till Decemeber 2012. Moreovere he gave us two options: 1. Replace the compresor without any charge, 2. Under the manufacturer's program, the whole outside unit could be bought for $1200. We went with the 2nd option. Now let's go back to A+. I did not pay the bill for $384. Greg Yamin form A+ called me in August 2012 and I explanined the situation. He said they need to train technicians better and I need to pay for just the service call. I agreed. Then I have not heard from them until today August 16, 2013. Greg Yamin called me today and asked me why I have not paid the original bill of $384. I was furious. I asked if they dont have any notes. He said no. Moreover, when I was trying to explain the situation all over again he called me a liar. I told him I can prove everything because I have the paperwork from CSC. I asked him to not call me again. It is not about the money now, I am really angry becasue he has the nerve to call their customer a liar. Last year, I gave them the benfit of the doubt that I did not believe they tried to cheat me by charging $2200 for a compressor in warranty. Today, I am not so sure. That is the reason I am writing this review to warn everyone else. In addition, I am seriously talking with my lawyer about this situtaion and Mr. Yamin's insult. In short, be careful with A+ especially if you dont accept what they say and go with a second opinion.

We would not have been in business for over 35 years if we intentionally tried to "cheat" our customers. With that being said, it would be a stretch to say we "never" made a mistake in 35 years either. Our new bookkeeper saw the outstanding balance and kept trying to reach the customer to see about the outstanding bill. It was our feeling in the office that there must have been a reason we writing it off, and wanted to let the customer know that. We're sorry we upset him over it. We do pride ourselves in our work and our main focus is customer satisfaction as you can see from many, many of the great reviews we have gotten from our loyal customers. We've earned the Angie's List Super Service Award 4 years counting, so we must be doing something right!!

Our AC went out in the evening. The positives- I left a message and received a call back within 15 minutes. The person we spoke with over the phone was nice/helpful. The technician showed up on time (within an hour) and was pleasant as well as knowledgeable. The negatives: The after hours service charge was more than all the other quotes we received. We needed to replace a capacitor and they charged us 3X the cost of the actual make/model part online. Though I had a good experience with the employees, I felt they A + was overpriced .

Quotes are one thing, and doing the actual work is another. We sent a highly trained and skilled service technician to do a diagnostic and repair after hours. We do not use parts that you can order off the internet (not sure what you would be getting) and we keep 90% of repair parts on the trucks so the problem can be fixed right the first time instead of having to come back a second time. Our rates include the labor to diagnose the problem, fix the problem, and do a thorough test of the system before we leave. We also provide the great technicians and vehicles for them to come to your home to fix the problem. We answered her call after hours, arrived quickly, and took care of the problem. Also, we warranty our parts for 2 years, so if there's a problem, she won't have to pay for the part again. (Can't get that from the internet!)

I have been using them for 20 years. The technician took an hour and a half to figure out what was wrong. They do not just come in and out. I highly recommend them and they may be a little more expensive. They are courteous and the technicians usually arrive close to the appointment time. Usually 10 minutes before the appointment time. I will continue to use them.
Description of Work: A-Plus Air Conditioning & Heating have maintained my air conditioner and have done 2 replacements. The last time they were out they needed to do some repairs.

No Muss, No Fuss! Could not believe how much two men could do in one day! Removed, installed & tested two new pieces of equipment after prepping each area. Gave me good instructions on how to use the system and the new items like a place to pour in bleach in the drain-line to keep it clear. They then sealed every door in the house including the utility door into the heater/blower closet. The insulation guys came, marched into the garage and up into the attic and we never heard from them again. I don't know much about insulation, but it looked beautiful. It looked nice enough to sleep on.
Description of Work: New AC/Heat system complete, Seal house, New insulation(looked one foot high), Additional return air grill, etc and Cleaned up very very well afterwords.

Three years after getting my AC from them and having it serviced by them an inspector noticed they had bent a piece to fit around a pipe in the attic and said we need to make sure it is functioning properly. I would never have noticed this and we had it inspected because we are selling the house. When I called the company they came to check it and agreed the installation was not how you normally do it. They made sure it worked well, and it does, but never told me about the original problem and now want to charge me over 150 dollars to admit to the problem and do the test they should have originally done to make sure it is working well. They refuse to admit that when modifying the process usually used to do something that you should tell the customer about it and do anything extra to make sure the modified installation still functions properly. When I told the owner that at a minimum notes should have been made in our file about this so that they would not have to send somebody out to check on their bent equipment 3 years later he said "well it would have been a handwritten note, not in your electronic file" , as a person who deals with handwritten paper files all the time I am not really sure how that should make a difference.Share your reviewShare on FacebookShare on TwitterEmail to friends After a few weeks the owner called me back and had a fair discussion with me where he addressed my concerns and we came to a mutual agreement to resolve our differences, for that reason I improved my review here and I will say that even though we had a disagreement their equipment and services have always worked well and in the end they tried to improve their customer service with me.

Overall I have given this company close to 13 thousand dollars and they did not want to spend a small amount of time providing a service to a repeat customer that should be included. We installed a new AC system (HVAC) and did a full weatherization job in 2010. The total of just under $12,000 includes both the weatherization and HVAC system. The entire job passed the final inspection with Austin Energy inspectors. Since that time, 3 years have passed and the customer has had no problems that we know of. The unit installed was installed properly or it would not have passed inspection. Every job we install is different. Installing an HVAC system is not like plugging in a new refrigerator. There are many components that need to be put together. That's why it's so important to have a company who knows how to install them properly. Each house we go to is configured differently, and each system is modified accordingly. We don't find it necessary to make notes like that in a file because each job is different. After each installation, as part of the job, we blow out the drain line and water test the drain pan. At that time, the float switch and all components worked fine. There have been no problems that we know of since the installation, that was also confirmed by the homeowner. When the customer listed the house for sale, and the home inspector made a note that there "was an improper install", the customer called us about it. There were no notes in the file because it wasn't necessary, there was nothing unusual about the job. We pulled the file and explained to the homeowner that the job passed the final inspection and as far as we knew (homeowner agreed) everything was working properly. Therefore, we didn't need to come out and test anything or check that our job was installed correctly. We pride ourselves on our customer service, that’s why we knew we didn’t need to come out. The homeowner insisted we send a technician to check the work, even though she knew it was working properly or it would have been leaking water. If there had been a problem, we would have corrected it as a warranty call at no charge, even now, 3 years later. The technician verified that the unit was working properly. However, we still had to pay a technician to go out there and spend time going over the system to see that there was no problem. When the technician was there, he tested the drain line and filled the pan with water. He also fixed a small leak in one of the ducts. The original charge was $181, and was discounted to $120.00. (not sure where the $150 came from). The technician spent over an hour going over the system. We always stand behind our work and are sorry this customer did not feel that way.

Very well. I would recommend this company to anyone that asks for a recommendation.
Description of Work: I had an AC spring checkup 2 units. The technician was very prompt, polite, thorough, checked both systems, inside, outside and attic, found one small air leak, repaired that and gave us a complete explanation on the units and a clean bill of health. This company is great. So pleased with joining Angie's List and have not had any problems with any of the companies I have found on this list!!

A+ was great with scheduling - quick to answer the phone, and gave me several calls to let me know the technician was on his way. When the technician arrived, he told me that he couldn't properly do an assessment of the refrigerant because the outside temperature was less than 70 degrees. He did tell me about several possible scenarios, but refused to let me spend money on an inspection of the system, as he noted it wouldn't be comprehensive. So, we are rescheduled for tomorrow! Just wanted to express my appreciation for the technician's honesty. I'll post another review once he actually inspects the system. Would definitely recommend these guys!

We called this company because the main floor AC had quit working. We had found them previously through Angie's list and that experience had been a good one. Because of the age of the unit that failed this time, we were presented with two options: recharge the fluid and replace a motor with the chance that the unit had developed leaks which would require the replacement of the unit later, or replace the unit since it was old. We opted for the less expensive quick fix, and the unit has performed fine since then. There was no pressure to opt for complete replacement, the repairman simply stated the alternatives and let us choose. The unit has performed well since the repair. We now know if a future check reveals low coolant, then there is likely a slow leak, and the unit should be replaced.
Description of Work: A motor was replaced on an older external AC compressor and the coolant was refilled. I am guessing at the repair cost, but it was around $450, which is much less than we had previously paid when an AC unit quit working.

Fantastic experience. this company is top notch. I called them and booked them strictly because of their reputation on Angies list and they did not disappoint. They were very prompt on the phone calls, quick to call back, and also scheduled my service same day. John, the technician, was fantastic. Amazing etiquette, very personable, incredibly knowledgeable, and passionate about the work. You can't teach that and the passion showed in the meticulous nature by how he worked and checked everything. Good AC people are hard to track down. I had a guy from one company tell me last year that i needed a whole new system. needless to say in our 10 year old home, i got a 2nd opinion, and "technician number 1" was VERY wrong. Long story short, this review and the other A ratings here tell the story of a legit company.

I installed three units to replace the ones that were only 8 years old but wanted a more energy saving units to help lower the bills and get a good comfortable feeling inside. Well the company I bought these units from NEVER installed the units right in the first place. In just fourteen months of operations we had 19 yes I said 19 service calls to fix the Brand new Trane XL 16i. Which includes are two 5 ton and one 3 ton unit. After getting nothing but the run around I decided to call A-Plus Air Conditioning and Heating. WOW!!! is all I can say...the units were correctly wired the way they were meant to be and now run perfectly..I could mention the other complany but will do so when I write a review about them later.... I could write several paragraphs on "A-Plus" on how good they are but will do so in just one short message. Professionalism, Competent, Quality work, responsible group of people that make it a great company. I will now continue to use A-Plus and HIGHLY recommend them to anyone that wants results. John M did an outstanding job...thanks again.
Description of Work: Evaluated the current configuration of the newly installed units, re-wired the units to perform as they were meant to perform in the first place. Stopped two air ducts from leaking water, fine tuned the three units, spent over 8 hours going over the whole set up I have in my attic and outside. I can't really get into specifics as I don't know the jargon but know that its fixed and has not caused a problem in over 2.5 months.

They answered my call right awayand rep came when he saidhe would and the office followed up with a reminder. Pleasant and professional. Walked me through all my options and the rebates I would qualify for. City inspector came out before and after to examine the job and approved on the spot so I will get my rebate quickly. The installers were on time and the work was completed in the specified time. All staff polite and professional. Would definitely recommend to others and use again.

After getting estimates from two other companies, I'm extremely happy that we had A-Plus come in and bid for the work. They were not the cheapest, but their price was very fair, their recommendations for equipment honest and intelligent, and the work was done on time, top quality, by a professional and courteous crew. In addition, they were very thorough and timely in submitting the paperwork for all of the City energy efficiency credits and manufacturer rebates that the work qualified us for. The HV/AC project involved not only replacing the outside condenser unit, but also the coil and heater & blower elements in the attic, which were a huge challenge due to very limited access (through a trap door in the kitchen pantry!). The access was so difficult, and the old unit so big, that another company's bid suggested simply leaving the old unit in the crawl space instead of taking it apart and removing it. A-Plus' bid did not charge extra for this service, and they accomplished the task without damaging our home. Kudos for that. The duct sealing and balancing work, combined with the new, super-efficient new system, have made our home a lot more comfortable, eliminating hot and cold spots in both A/C and heating modes (now that it's gotten cooler, we've been able to test the heating side, and everything is great). In addition, A-Plus was very good about dealing with an issue we had with the new supposedly ultra quiet, ultra efficient outside unit. When installed, the unit began intermittently making a very loud noise on start-up, which turned out to be an issue that had to be escalated to the manufacturer. A-Plus stayed on top of the issue, brought in the manufacturer's rep, and ended up resolving it completely to our satisfaction. In addition to the professional and friendly crew of 2 that did most of the work, we interacted with a manager in their office, Debi, who was professional, courteous and a pleasure to work with, and also with the owner, Greg Y, who was also excellent to work with. Bottom line, when it comes time to replace the downstairs system in our home, A-Plus will be getting that business as well. Although I hope that won't be for a long time to come... this stuff is not cheap!
Description of Work: We hired A-Plus to install a replacement HV/AC system in the upstairs section of a house we had just recently purchased (dowstairs had an existing system that did not need replacement, thank goodness!). After discussing the HV/AC replacement with them, we ended up also contracting with them to insulate our upstairs attic/crawlspace, seal all the ducting in the system, upgrade the flex ducting to more energy efficient ducts, and do a full pressure test and air balancing of the system.

Contacted company, the actual repairman called back about 10 minutes later with an estimated arrival time. He called again to say he was running a bit late, and asked if that would be a problem (delay was only about 20 minutes). It wasn't a problem, he arrived before his second estimate. He quickly got the compressor restarted, and told me what he thought the problem was. Said the refrigerant was also low, but given the age of the equipment, it could be a very slow leak. After he confirmed the fault in the compressor, he gave me a range of options for cleaning a dirty coil, refilling the refrigerant, chasing down the leak. Suggested that although equipment was near end-of-life, it could still work for a long time, so replacing the unit was not a recommendation unless there was a second failure soon. I asked him to refill refrigerant, and clean the coil. He gave me instructions on how to reset and restart the compressor if it did stop again, and gave me the bill, which was about 1/2 of the cost of the last A/C repair I had done. I also mentioned a chronic problem of uneven cooling in the top floor. He gave me a detailed explanation of how cold air is spread across rooms, and what the possible problems could be. So, I'm happy with the service, and when we do get the unit replaced I would certainly call this company. I will also ask them to look at the uneven cooling since that has been an issue at this house since we moved in. (I even asked a general contractor about the cooling, and he scratched his head and said something about putting fans in ducts. Sounded expensive and vague.)
Description of Work: Inspected outside compressor, repaired electronics in outside compressor, cleaned coil and recharged refrigerant. Also gave me an explanation of cold air distribution after I asked about uneven cooling in the upstairs floor.

They were wonderful. They worked very hard for 2 days and repaired my AC correctly. They even came out on Sunday, when noone else would. They provided a temporary fix and came out the next day to finish the job that took almost 7hours. They also kept me informed over the telephone throughout the entire process.
Description of Work: I had them out to repair my AC unit.

I would use A Plus again. The technician professional and informative. Worked quickly and resolved the problems.
Description of Work: Both A/C units failed on the same day. I called late that evening, about 10 PM and did receive a call within 15 minutes. We tentatively scheduled the repair mid next morning. The serviceman arrived about 11 am and was professional and courteous. He quickly diagnosed a faulty circuit breaker on the first A/C unit. With in a half hour, he had determined a faulty capacitor and diode on the other unit. There was a diagnostic fee for each unit which totaled $150. Repair parts and installation was about $200. I replaced the faulty circuit breaker.

After having talked with these folks over the last 6 months and feeling very comfortable their claims, I got to the point of pulling the trigger on a new A/C and Heating System for my house. In trying to be smart about the process I had three companies Bid the project. of the three, A-Plus was not the most or the least expensive, but they sold me on their intent to provide excellent service and a "painless" process of replacing my System. -Once I made the decision, they asked for 1/2 of the System Cost as a retainer. 1st mistake, the company I went with (AIM) made no mention of a deposit and when I brought it up they refused, saying no money would be taken until I was completely satisfied. -Upon giving A-Plus the deposit, they said they would call me with an install date. After not hearing from them for a few days I called them, and was told they were waiting on the a Building Permit from the City of Austin. A week later I was still without an Install Date. -Two Weeks after giving them over $3,000 I still had no install date and was being given the "run around" about how busy they were and sick employees. -After almost a month of waiting I gave them 24 hours to schedule the Installation or return my money. I did get my money back, and ended up calling a company called AIM. They had the Installation Day scheduled the moment I gave them the "go ahead". Two days prior to the Installation Date they called to say that A-Plus had pulled a Permit from the City and the City would not issue another permit until A-Plus had cancelled theirs, which delayed my Installation another WEEK!!!! I WILL NEVER CALL A-PLUS AGAIN.

Just before receiving this comment, we sent the customer a gift certificate for future service and apologized for any inconvenience we caused. We were surprised to see this complaint. We had been talking with the Member for about a year, while he hoped for another “best offer” program from Austin Energy. He had a perfectly working system that was old and he was being pro active about replacement. That gave him the opportunity to take his time while waiting for the best deal to come along. We were patient throughout. Finally, it seemed his dad offered to help pay for the job and the Member called for us to begin. Our contract calls for 50% down and 50% upon completion. This is standard practice in our industry. However, less than a week after our agreement, our lead installer of 5 years did not show up for work. First he told us he was sick, then he moved out of town to work on an oil rig with his brother without telling us. At the same time, we realized our install helper was stealing from us and we fired him, leaving us with no install crew. As we are very particular about our installs, and since this happened right at the beginning of the summer, we had a hard time finding quality installers. We did not want to do a bad job for any of our customers. So for us, it was better to wait until we found the right crew to do an A-Plus job, even if it meant our customers had to wait. We informed the Member that we were behind because of our “ill” technician and would keep him in the “loop”, just as we had to do with many of the install jobs we had lined up during this very busy season. Unfortunately for us, the Members dad came to town and was impatient with our situation (before we found out about our technician left town) and asked for his money back, which we did so without hesitation. A few days later he called and informed us the permit which we had pulled to do the install needed to be rescinded. Again, we did so without hesitation. As we understand it, the city takes up to a week to follow through on our request to cancel the permit. That part was out of our control. Fortunately, they were not without cooling during this time. For all the inconveniences we caused, we sent the Member an apology letter and gift certificate. Debi, our office administrator, and Greg, our office Manager have both tried to reachthe Member several times and he has not returned our calls. It was an unfortunate situation for everyone, including the customers and us that this happened. We are truly sorry of any inconvenience this may have caused and we felt very lucky that the Member was the only customer who couldn’t wait for us to follow through with our contract.

Awesome company! Came out - figured out the problem was a broken capacitor that was still under warranty. They replaced it and didn't charge a thing. Frank was cool, and did a great job and very prompt. Will definitely use this company again. Note, the service date is approximate since I forgot exactly when they came out.
