"Mr. [Member Name Removed] reached out to multiple contractors via Angie’s List for the installation of a downdraft cooktop—a more complex appliance that requires specialized experience to ensure proper leveling and functionality. After comparing quotes, he chose my offer of $400, which was agreed upon prior to scheduling the job. Upon arrival, Mr. [Member Name Removed] asked for a time estimate, and I informed him it would take approximately one hour, which is consistent with my experience, having installed over 200 similar units throughout my career. The installation was completed efficiently and correctly. In addition to the agreed scope of work, I went above and beyond by: Installing a new gas line at no extra charge Driving to Home Depot to purchase additional ducting materials Sealing old ductwork that was not part of the project These extra steps were not included in the original quote but were done to ensure a safe and professional installation. Regarding the missing screen from the downdraft unit: When I arrived, the kitchen and dining area contained multiple components from both the new and old cooktops. In the cleanup process, I mistakenly disposed of the screen, thinking it was part of the discarded materials. I immediately took responsibility and returned with a replacement screen within two days, while managing a fully booked schedule, often working until 7 PM or later. Importantly, the screen does not affect the functionality of the cooktop, and I clearly communicated that it would be replaced promptly. Despite the successful installation, extra efforts, and quick resolution of the screen issue, Mr. [Member Name Removed] left a 2-star review, which appears to be based solely on the temporary absence of a non-critical part. Unfortunately, some clients are difficult to satisfy even when the work is performed correctly, efficiently, and beyond expectations. I stand behind the quality of my work and the integrity of how this job was handled from start to finish."
"Initial Visit: Customer reported a malfunctioning refrigerator. Upon same-day inspection, I diagnosed the issue as a bad fan motor caused by excessive frost buildup behind the back panel. During the visit, the customer’s husband mentioned that their children sometimes accidentally leave the refrigerator door open, which can lead to frost accumulation and subsequent fan failure. This aligned with the root cause of the problem. Follow-Up Call (Approximately 4 Weeks Later): Customer contacted me again with a similar issue, this time involving the freezer. Based on previous findings and known usage habits (door left open), I determined the likely cause was once again frost buildup due to the door being left ajar. Resolution Options Provided: To resolve the issue, I offered the customer the following options: Service Call: I could return to manually defrost the back panel and restore full functionality for a discounted service fee of $100 (standard rate is $150). DIY Solution: To save on the service fee, the customer could unplug the refrigerator for 24 hours to allow the frost to fully melt, which would likely resolve the issue."
