For the initial visit on Nov. 16 someone came out to figure out what was wrong with the oven. I made the appointment and they came in the time frame they said they would. It was 89.50 for that service. The part needed to be ordered (a thermostat) so it was a few days before someone could come out and install it. On Nov. 20th a different repair man came out and he seemed confused about why he was there. He asked if I knew what he was supposed to fix and then asked if I knew what was wrong with the oven. Thankfully he had a part with him to replace the old one that wasn't working. He wasn't very confident which was unsettling. He didn't have what he needed to run my debit card although that's what I did for initial diagnostic visit. This time it was 124.67 and fortunately I had a check left to write. The bummer is that it didn't fix the problem. It wasn't heating up hot enough and because of our work schedules and commitments we couldn't get someone else out 3 days before the holiday so we ended up doing waffles for Thanksgiving dinner. I didn't want to risk poisoning my family with an undercooked turkey. When I made the initial appointment I told the woman on the phone that we found them on Angie's list but there wasn't any indication that we received the 10% discount for the 2 payments we made. It was disappointing to have my year old oven start malfunctioning and then spend $214 to have 2 repairmen out and nothing to show for it. There will be other Thanksgivings. It's too bad that high reviews on Angie's list doesn't guarantee a good outcome.

I went beautifully. They checked out the stove and found the problem. They did not have the part so they had to order it. When they got the part, they called then came over to make the repair, checked out the stove and it worked great.

After another company no-showed, I called Thompson's and was told that Mr. Thompson would call me the next morning at about 9:30. He called on time and told me he would be at my house between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. he was at my door just before 11, found the problem, and fixed it. I thought I had disconnected the light fixture in my abortive attempt to find the problem before I called for help. It was only a burned out bulb, and I can get a new one practically anywhere. Well done!

I know everyone has different experiences with any business, I just thought I would share my experience with Thompson's Appliance. They looked me up and the last time I was there was 4 years ago so it's not like I go in there often. I do remember the time I went in 4 years ago though and I don't remember there being a problem then. But this review is about today, again I can only tell you my experience today, I don't know what anyone else has encountered there in the past. So here's my story, it's short.
I took the part I needed to get replaced into the business and had already looked up the part number on the web, but I kept being redirected to a different part number. So I walk into the business, there is a nice, friendly and knowledgeable lady working the front counter, I think her name is Tina. So she tries typing in the part number into her computer to find the replacement part and encounters the same problem I was encountering. So I let her be while she quickly researches the reason why the part number isn't pulling up. I don't know what she was seeing on her moniter as it was facing away from me. So without moving from the counter where her computer was she reaches down to what I believe was one of the upper shelves  underneath the counter and gets the part that I need and puts it on the counter again she is still standing in the same place she was while researching the part. I couldn't believe it. I thought for sure it would have to be ordered or sent in from their warehouse or whatever. So today I had a very good experience with this business. I don't know what you or anyone else will experience, I just though I would share my experience with them. 
I will definitely go back there if I ever need any appliance part in the near future.

The work itself was adequate, but the repairman was surly and needy.  He couldn't do the job by himself--didn't bring all the tools, couldn't work alone, needed me to turn off the power for him.  When I complained, he berated me.  I asked for a different repairman on the return visit for the actual repair, and they sent the same man--which seems really clueless.  If a lady says she's uncomfortable with a certain repairman, why would you send the same guy a second time?  This guy needed a baby sitter.

Service guy showed up within agreed-upon time window.
I explained what the problem was, and he opened the door and looked at the model number tag and wrote down the number.
He diagnosed that it needed a new auger without ever having disassembled any components.
I was amazed that he could make that diagnosis when my initial understanding was that he does not normally service this type machine.
He said he would research the cost and call me back next day with details of price and delivery.
He wrote me an invoice and I paid for the service call, total time for the service call about 10 minutes, including time to write-up the invoice and me to write a check to cover it.
I researched the parts online and found several vendors such as Fixice.com and Parts4all.com offering the part for prices from $534 to $550.
Being somewhat skeptical of a diagnosis without having disassembled the device, I did my own disassembly. After removing a few parts I found the bearing assembly to be worn, but not the auger as recommended by the service tech.
I waited two days for the service tech to call back with the details of the fix, but received no call.
At the end of the day after he promised to call me, I called him and asked about the status of my repair parts. The person who answered the phone said they had not been able to find parts because the machine was too new. I wondered how true that could be, since I was able to find multiple vendors offering the parts in just a few minutes using Google, many listed as 'in stock ready to ship', and me having little knowledge of ice makers or where to buy parts.
The phone person promised they would find the parts and call me back by noon the next day.
Noon the next day came and went and no call.
About 4 PM that day, the service tech called and said they had found the part and the cost was about $700 and the installation cost was about $150.
Really?
So effectively they were asking me to pay $150 more for the part than what I could buy the part for online, plus pay an additional $150 on top of the $80 I had originally paid for the service call.
I said no thanks, since replacing that part would not correct the problem, and they would have known that if they had made a good faith attempt to diagnose the problem.
Bottom line, I thought I was calling a local service company that had been in business for years and would have highly experienced technicians.
I was massively disappointed and sad for them as a company.
I will be intrigued to read the company response.

My service tech - Dale called him the morning of 01/28/2014 and gave Mr [member name removed] a 2 hr time frame of 1 - 3 pm that day. Dale arrived at 1:45 and left at 2. The diagnsos was that it needed an augar assy. We have seen and performed this repair before. We called on 01/31/2014 to give the estimate which I agree took longer than it should and I apoligize for the deley. The estimate given was for : augar 515.00 bearing 145.00 labor 150.00 S/T 810.00 tax 55.20 TT 865.20 I think Mr [member name removed] didnt understand that the bearing was part of the estimate - both need to be replaced as per Scotsman - link to bulliten: http://usas.memberclicks.net/assets/asti2012/AT03_scotsman_ice_machines/at03_scotsman_ice_machines_scn60_service_2.pdf The following comes from page 13 : The auger can also have scale build up which must be removed. It works best when it is clean and shiny. Note that a wet auger will appear clean but when dry the scale will be visible. Dry off the auger (use your heat gun) to determine if it’s clean. If the machine has been operated with worn bearings, the auger may have rubbed the evaporator wall. If the spiral edges or flights of the auger are damaged, the auger must be replaced. The ice breaker at the top of the evaporator contains the pressed-in bearing. This bearing must not be greased. If worn, the breaker with bearing can be replaced. We replace just the bearing because the breaker with bearing goes for around $625.00. I apologize for any miscommunication that occured - I value every customer that choses to do business with Thompson's Appliance. On these Shaver or Sonic ice machines (as they are called) when you see metal shavings in the ice this is the repair - there is really no tear down need. If you repalce just the bearing and not the augar the ice getting between the augar and the evaporator housing will cause the bearing to go out again. Thank You Craig Thompson"

They sent someone out quickly, had an estimate fairly fast, and had to order a part but didnt call when it came in.  I finally had to call to ask when they expected the part.  They said it had been in for several days and they'd called. They hadnt.  But they came out when they said they would.  So the only real issue was such a long time between the service call and actually getting the dryer repaired.  I went two weekends having to go to the laundromat between when they looked at the dryer and actually fixed it.  The cost was high too, about $280 for the service call then repairing the dryer.  A new dryer wouldnt have cost much more than that, but the cost of the part wasnt their fault.

These guys are idiots. I took my unit in for a diagnosis since it was not cooling properly. I sent the model number and unit info in via email from their web site and was assured by return email  they could handle it. I dropped it off on a Monday morning as they opened (hours are 8-5, which as a consumer disappointed me. I had to short my hours to accommodate them). The young man took my $40 and I had to help take the large unit inside. Once inside, the young man asked the tech if he could work on the unit. After several seconds of consideration, the tech said "we'll figure it out". The bottom line is, he didn't figure it out. I received a call from Thompson's appliance that the unit's compressor was overheating and a replacement compressor is no longer made.
 
I took the unit to another A/C guy the next day. He laughed at the response I received from Thompsons. He replaced the compressor in 1 day and I'm back up and running for slightly more that I paid Thompsons to "analyze" my unit.
Based on my experience, they are not a reputable dealer. Just my opinion based on my experience.

"I don’t see where I “Incorrectly diagnosed” the air conditioner – it needed a compressor – the same part the other company replaced. The OEM (Original Equipment per Manu factor) part # is D6926112H which is NLA per Appliance Parts Depot , Marcone, and First Source Parts. These are 3 of the largest parts houses in the nation. I even called Sears – OEM part NLA. I don’t know what compressor the other company used but I don’t use non OEM parts because they usually don’t fit properly and don’t last as long. My cost on the compressor would have been at least $280.00 if it were available – I would have marked the price up and added labor, so if the other company did it for close to $40 I’d be really concerned what part they put in my A/C. I don't make any money on the $40 fee - it basically covers my time to diagnose the appliance. I make my money on the repair. Thank You Craig Thompson"

After deciding which  appliance was wanted, a purchase was made on December 31, 2012.  The salesman was truly knowledgeable and helpful.  Once the appliance was delivered on time as promised, there was an issure with its performance.  Thompson Appliance was instrumental in directing me to the manufacturing company and I found out that I had a plumbing issue which prevented the appliance from performing.

I hired Thompson Appliance in August to repair a GE refrigerator. It would be hard to detail the travesty that occurred over the next 4-5 months. They originally quoted me over $400 in repairs which is fairly expensive for a roughly $1000 fridge but I gave them the go ahead to make the repairs. It took 10 days before they finally got all the necessary parts and made the repairs. About a week later the fridge was having the same problems. We went back and forth, with Thompson Appliance making roughly half a dozen service calls yet was unable to keep the fridge working. At one point they tried to charge me for hundreds of dollars worth of parts that I had already paid for.
This cycle continued through September and into October. Oddly enough, the fridge began to have even more problems despite the frequent servicing. By this time they claimed that the initial 60-day warranty on their work had expired and they wanted more money to get everything working as it should. The fridge had never gone 60 days or anything even close to that without malfunctioning. In order to put an end to the ridiculous situation I them paid them more money to make the ?final? repairs or so I thought, bringing the total to nearly $600. This only started another cycle of problems. By December I simply couldn?t believe I still had a fridge that wasn?t working as it should. Thompson Appliance felt it necessary to take the fridge to their business for roughly a month to ?run diagnostics?. The technician said he finally figured out the problem but would of course be needing more money to make all of the ?final repairs?. I finally said enough is enough and took my business elsewhere. 
I paid them quite a lot of money and did not receive the services I paid for. I hired another contractor to finish the job at an additional expense which I will be seeking reimbursement for from Thompson Appliance.
I anticipate the end result will be determined in small claims court as Thompson Appliance will most certainly be receiving an invitation to explain themselves in front of a judge if they refuse to reimburse me for the additional amount I paid to get the fridge operating as it should.

Thompson's Appliance replaced 3 parts on the top of my electric stove and replaced the door gasket for the dishwasher.  The dishwasher leaked at the top so he replaced it again and took care of the problem.  He ordered an electric stove coil for the burner and I was not offered a cheaper option and felt like he bought the most expensive type.  I would use him again in the future but I may purchase parts myself next time in order to save money.

They come out and see my refrigerator once a year.  They put a little bit of Freon in the deep freeze section.  It’s very little and it’s not worth going through the experience of finding the leak, but it’s enough if I want to freeze my ice-cream.  The guy was not a professional appearing or speaking person, he was more of a home boy, but he knew what he was talking about.  I would continue to use them in the future.

Called on Wednesday1/18, and made an appointment for Friday. Was told that tech would call around 9a to confirm time he would be arriving. Called them at 10:20a as I had not yet heard from anyone, was told that driver got a flat, was running late, and asked if they could come on Saturday instead. I agreed. 1/22, Technician came as scheduled, diagnosed problem, and said it would take a couple of days to get part in. 1/24, Received call and quote for repair price. Told them to proceed with order and was advised that part should be there the following day, and Wednesday at the latest. Called on Thursday to check status, was told someone would call me back. A manager called me back and apologized for the delay, but said the part had somehow slipped through the cracks and had to be ordered. He promised that the part would be in the following day, and said if it didn't arrive he would send a courier to pick it up to make sure we were repaired by Saturday at the latest. He called back later that day and said he had arranged for someone to come right away to complete the repair. Although I wasn't pleased that we had "slipped through the cracks", I understood that we're all human and people make mistakes. However, I was most impressed that he was honest with me, and followed through on his promise to complete the repair. These days it's rare to find companies that stand behind their word and have employees that actually take ownership of problems and find solutions. Hats off to Thompson's, it's clear why they've been around all these years. A+

They sent a guy to diagnose the issues. Dale was smug and gruff, but for two visits, who cares? He came back to make the repair, but he didn't test it. Later that day I realized it wasn't fixed. I called back for a recall. They sent him out for a third visit, and he was still gruff and smug--and now sporting a skinhead which made him look scary enough to make me uncomfortable. He had to order another set of parts. When he returned for a fourth visit, he seemed to need a lot of supervision--can I borrow this? Do you have one of these? Could you do this? Funny, I thought I was paying HIM to do this stuff, but he hadn't come with all the tools he needed, and he showed no respect for me or my time. It didn't bother me on the second visit, but now I've taken four days off to accommodate their slow schedule. He also had the wrong parts. I questioned whether or not he was doing the job efficiently, and he exploded in his own defense. He could have diffused the situation with an apology, but no, he now had to defend himself. When they called to say they had the parts in, I asked for a different service tech. It's never good policy to argue with a customer, and this guy now had taken on the part of defending every statement he made. it was incredibly juvenile and unprofessional. They sent the same guy, and he showed even less respect for my time or activities--still needing tools he had not brought with him, still needing to be shown where the circuit box was (on his fifth visit), and showing no respect for the fact that I was on the phone with work. I chastized him for it, and he said, "Like I'm supposed to be some mind reader." No, but showing some care when you're in someone's home after you've forced them to meet you for a fifth time would be helpful. I asked to talk to his supervisor, and he dialed his phone. I did not want to talk to the supervisor with him there--that's intimidation. I paid him, and he mocked me, so I demanded that he leave. This man is a frightening figure, and I wouldn't trust this company ever again. I sent them an account, but either they don't respond to email or they don't care. The only thing old fashioned about their service is the slow speed at which it comes. It took them three weeks to fix my oven. Seriously?

When my fridge died 5 years ago, I bought one off their sales floor. ASAP delivery, and no fee. They reached my house even before I did. Compressor failed 2 months prior to end of extended warranty. Thompson's sent someone to pick up the dead fridge and gave me a loaner for a week. They do 0% financing just like the chains; some folks don't know this. You certainly won't get this type of customer service with chains.

Our dryer tends to go out on occasion, so we're used to fixing it ourselves. However, the dryer wasn't responding to all our little tricks, so I called this place. I called them late in the afternoon, but they told me that they were available to come by the next day. They told me that they would call from 9-11 am, and they did. They called around 9:30 and were at the house by 1 p.m. They were very professional over the phone and in person. The gentleman was extremely patient with my father, and gave him some great tips should the dryer go out again. (We've never had a problem with the door switch before, so I don't feel too silly about them coming to the house). We needed it fixed, period. I would definitely hire them again, no matter how big or small the job is.

My refrigerator had frozen everything solid for about a year. The repairman from Thompson's Appliance diagnosed the problem and ordered the part. On the second visit, he replaced the part and the problem has been solved. Only 3-4 days between visits and the repair was completed quickly.
