Carpet Discount Warehouse

I had purchased a living social deal to carpet discount warehouse.  Before purchasing the deal, I checked Angie's List and saw that they had a good rating.  But life got in the way, and I let the deal expire.  (It expired May 23, 2013 and the work was done July 2, 2013).  It was still worth what I paid for it though, and since they had good reviews I contacted them for a quote.  It was arranged via email.  On the day they were supposed to come for the quote, Scott did not show up.  He said that he must have written it down on the wrong day and could he come tomorrow.  Ok fine, we are all human.  He arrived on time the next day with samples on hand, he had just what I was looking for and the price seemed fair.  I didn't even get other quotes, which I would normally do (shame on me and lesson learned).  He said they could install the carpet the very next week.  We made arrangements for him to come on Tuesday.  We planned to move the furniture out of those rooms ourselves to save some money, and my husband and I both had Monday off so we could do that.  He wrote the quoted price on the back of his card and said he would return with a copy in writing on the day the work would be done.
Tuesday came, and half an hour after they were supposed to arrive I called to see if there was a problem - no answer.  I then emailed. Scott responded that - surprise! - he had me written down for another day.  They could send someone later that day or the next.  I am pregnant and very sensitive to smells, so I had made arrangements to stay somewhere else for the rest of the week while the carpet airs out.  I told him I would prefer the work be done as soon as possible.  He told me they pulled a crew off another job and they would be there around 11:15.  I requested that, since he had now missed two appointments, they would honor my expired living social voucher to make up for my trouble.  He stated that they would not do that since they stopped advertising with them over a year ago but they would bring an upgraded pad - the same pad he has in his home.  Funny, I asked about upgrading the pad when I got the quote and he told me the quote he gave me included the upgraded pad - the same he has in his home.  And it occurred to me that I had nothing in writing.  (Shame on me again).  I responded that was fine, and would be reflected in my Angie's list review.  He then replied (paraphrasing) that if I was just going to trash talk the company they could cancel the job.    I stated I would be fair in my review and was waiting on the work to be done before I wrote it.  At this point it was past the time he said I could expect the crew and I asked when they would be arriving as I needed to leave to pick up my child.  No response for about an hour and a half, the crew showed up about 1:15 pm, two hours after the time I was told to expect them.
The crew was in an unmarked truck and not wearing uniforms.  When I answered the door they said "Carpet?"  The did get straight to work and worked very hard.  My daughter was very interested in what they were doing and kept sneaking off to "help" them.  I tried to keep her out of their hair and we ended up leaving the house, but they tolerated her help nicely.  One I do not believe spoke any English and one spoke very little, at one point he had me speak to someone on the phone for translation.  Since they got started so late in the day and the work was going to take a while, he was concerned about working late and my daughter needing to go to bed.  I let them know that she would not be spending the night at the house and they could work as late as they needed to.  They stayed until after 10 pm. The stairs were rather labor intensive. 
I finally received my written quote at 4:57 pm via email.  (Presumably as Scott was leaving the office).  It states the type of carpet, price, and that the price includes pad, labor, installation, and sales tax.  He also requested that I "give his guys a check," when I was told at the quote that I could pay by check or credit card.
The verdict?  It looks wonderful.  If this is what an upgraded pad feels like, I would hate to feel the basic pad.  Of course, I have no way of knowing if they actually did install an upgraded pad.  I paid to have them nail down the subfloor better to take care of some squeaks, some are better and some are the same.  I really wanted it screwed down but wasn't given that option.  Overall, I'm disappointed.  Next time I will be sure to have everything in writing ahead of time, get multiple quotes (I knew better!), and will probably instate a one strike policy for missed appointments.  I promise I'm not a person that is difficult to please, but if you don't show up that is pretty difficult to recover from.

Scott came out to our house with carpet samples and we were able to put the samples in different areas in the house and match it with colors.  It was nice having him bring the samples to us! 
On the day of the install, the installers were EARLY, which was GREAT!  Two guys came to install the carpet and worked diligently until it was all done.  They were efficient and cleaned up well after they completed the job.
Scott called 15 minutes after the appointment time to confirm that the installers were at our house.
All in all it was a great experience and we would use this company again in the future.

The salesman came to my house with samples.  This worked well because it was easier to see the color coordination.  I've used Big Bob's in the past and Carpet Discount is FAR better.  I was pleased.  Prices were more competitive than any I'd seen and the work was as anticipated.

They did the job in about two weeks and they finished it before Christmas. I went with them because they had a very large selection. They were influential in that they knew what type of carpet I needed because of the wear that I have in my house with kids and animals. I liked their price and the convenience. I had used them before on some hotel projects. We have to go to the storefront and pick out what we want. They don't come to me to do that. I like my privacy. I would hire them again in the future.

They were extremely efficient, their price was right around our range. They were also very cleaned and highly recommended. The work they had done was great and we are happy.

We are very happy with the pad, carpet and the installation. Unfortunately they didn't measure correctly so more carpet needed to be ordered and then installed for the master closet (which is large). The waiting was difficult, but the final results are quite nice. Also none of the installers spoke English; they were hard workers though.
