We made our initial, information gathering appointment at the Fort Worth Home and Garden Show in early 2015.
Our old cabinets were chipped and would need a lot of work to get back into shape. Three of the cabinets had a wide wood piece running down the center that made the space difficult to work with (our dishes didn't even fit in there!). We had to do something to freshen-up the kitchen, so it was this or a full tear-out and re-do.
Lenny, our representative, came to our house to explain the process, show us the possibilities, and estimate the service. Before the appointment we were not ever asked to confirm or have both homeowners present (but we were anyway). Lenny was very easy-going, courteous, professional, knew the product well, and spent a good deal of his time with us answering questions. We decided to go with the Cabinet Facers, negotiated the price, Lenny took measurements, and we gave Lenny a deposit of $500. This was not a high pressure sales situation.
Lenny called us a few times to let us know the status of our order and In a few months, the cabinet door/drawer faces were ready. We had them installed June 29, 30, and July 1. The weekend before we emptied everything from the cabinets (which was a good exercise to assist with purging and organizing). Lenny was also our installer. He showed-up on time as expected. On the first day, I let him in, we went over a few details, and I left him so I could go to work. Day 2 and 3 I just left the front door unlocked for him and didn't see him again until he was finished at the end of day 3. We did talk on the phone, briefly, so he could ask some quick questions and let me know how it was going.
He removed all the existing doors/drawers and disposed of them. He also removed the handles because we chose to recycle those for the new cabinets. He sanded the surface of the cabinets to prep them and removed those center pieces of wood that were installed on three of the cabinets. He was careful not to get dust all over the house, and I was impressed with how clean it was as he worked. At the end of each work day, he tidied-up his tools and cleaned as he went.
The surface of the cabinets were resurfaced with a laminate that matches the new cabinet doors/drawers. The doors were installed with new, soft-close hinges. New molding was installed, that matched the laminate, in between the cabinet surface and wall. The kick-plates (under the cabinet) were also re-surfaced with laminate to match the doors.
In the end, I loved the finish look! It is a MASSIVE improvement. I am so happy we did this. What we need to do now is touch-up the inside of the cabinets with some paint and move all the stuff back in.
Working with Lenny was easy; he was courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. He even left the patio where he set up his equipment cleaner than when he found it (thanks Lenny!!)! Ask for him :)
Overall, super easy for me!
