They did a great job. They were pretty prompt. Very easy to work with, corrected any problems.

I had had problems with a prior waterfall leaking and ponding, so when I did the contract with Suburbia, at my request they agreed to give me a two year warranty for those particular problems.  Unfortunately, I have had constant problems with my waterfall both leaking and ponding (it's supposed to be pondless) in the last almost two years since Suburbia installed it.  However, the main reason I'm writing this review is to complain about their poor responsiveness on warranty issues.  Each time, I have to call them multiple times before I even get a response, they fail to show up when they say they will, and they still haven't fixed the problems with the waterfall notwithstanding coming out many times since it was installed.  They also came up with a design that is apparently very difficult to maintain and requires pulling all the rocks apart to get to the source.  To be fair, I do think that Doug is extremely gifted artistically, and we do love the look of the waterfall (especially when we can actually have it running when it's not leaking, etc.).  I just can't recommend them, though, for their ability to have an effective functional design or for their responsiveness on warranty issues, which is terrible.

We couldn't be happier with our deck. It has added so much usable square footage to our house. Suburbia Oasis' attention to detail shows down to every nail, every joint. But what's probably their greatest asset is their attention to customer service. Something that's not easy to come by in this category.
This project began when my wife and I decided to finally do something about our giant wooden deck that was 1) taking up way too much of our yard, 2) requiring way too much maintenance, and 3) too good of a home for pests.
Suburbia Oasis was on our short list because their reputation preceded them. Once we met with them, we knew why. They came to our house to look around, and found time to do it on OUR terms, not theirs ? a theme that would continue throughout the project. When we gave Doug (the artistic arm of the operation) our long list of needs and wants, he again found a time when it was convenient for us to sit down and talk it through, walking us through his rationale and making changes on the fly in his design software. He was very deliberate about the choices he made, and showed us how the choices we would make would affect the overall aesthetic. He also showed us the range of what we could get for more ? and less ? money.
Once Doug handed the plans off to John and Isaac (the implementation arms), the commitment to customer service continued. They went out of their way to make sure they weren't disturbing our family. We couldn't believe their speed. They demolished the existing deck within a couple days, and had begun laying the foundation for the new one within a week. A few more days and the roof was up, including framing, decking, shingles, etc. It wasn't long after that, and we had reached our deadline, and they were finished.
At every step of the way, John made sure to call and see if we had questions. He didn't wait for us to bring them up. He anticipated what we might be thinking, what we might be concerned about, and headed us off with a phone call. Even as his team was going above and beyond what they had originally promised to do (along the way we also decided it'd be nice to stain the fence, repair the gate, and do a couple other odds and ends things that weren't on the initial list), John was reassuring, steady-handed, and never seemed nervous about turning things around in time.
I'd recommend Suburbia Oasis to anyone who wants a gorgeous outdoor escape at their home. Especially if you want the experience getting there to be equally as pleasant.

I enjoyed working with Doug and John on this project.  Doug handles the design work and he gave several ideas and suggestions of what we could do in the space we had to work with.  He also created computerized design plans to help me visualize the project.  Since I didn't have a strong feeling of what I wanted, this was really helpful.  John oversees the building phase of the project.  He and his team were also easy to deal with and the work progressed at a good pace.  As is typical in any project, we had one or two hiccups  along with way but I always felt like I was treated fairly and that Suburbia Oasis wanted to make sure that the work was of a high quality and that I was happy with the final result.  All in all, it was a very good experience.

Poor design with promises to repair issues with water penetration. The contractor promised follow up and never came back to resolve the issues after numerous attempts by us to contact them. 7 months later I hired another contractor to revise the design which cost $4,000.

"Dear Angie’s List customers; My name is John Thorburn my number is 214 762 9482. I am one of the owners of Suburbia Oasis. Please feel free to contact me if you need to discuss this project in greater detail. In reply to the customer review: Poor design – the initial design that was proposed called for a backsplash and a bar top that would project out and be exposed to the elements. This was changed by the customer during construction and the entire countertop was extended out thereby removing the backsplash/bar top. Water penetration – we built an outdoor kitchen-I am unable to stop wind driven rain from blowing onto an exposed slab of Oklahoma Stone counter top. If readers are interested I can provide design drawings / before & after images etc. Omitted in the customer comments was that they neglected to shut off the water supply to the misting system which consequently froze requiring extensive system replacement. The customer was not charged for his negligence and the repairs costs were absorbed by us in the spirit of good will and customer service. We are very proud of our standing with Angie’s List and regret that we have not lived up to this customer’s expectations. Thank you for your time and please take a moment to review other member comments on our performance. Sincerely, John"

We were very impressed and pleased with everyone from Suburbia, including subcontractors, who worked on this project and were thrilled with the finished result.  The construction supervisor, John, was wonderful to work with.  Our home sits high on a golf course hill and we wanted to take full advantage of our view.  We completely remodeled our backyard patio, replacing a rickety and worn wooden deck with a travertine patio and creating a beautiful, functional outdoor living space that included opening up the pool area.  We had a hot tub in the center of the wooden deck that blocked our view to the western horizon from the master bedroom.  We also had a fiberglass pool that looked more like a bathtub because it didn't have any tiling or coping and we wanted to make it look more inviting.
We sought estimates from 3 companies, but Doug, our designer, was the only one who was able to interpret our verbal description and create a graphic representation that captured our thoughts perfectly.  The computerized graphic was also a wonderful tool for tweaking the project as it progressed.
The work took about 7 months from start to finish, and began with the demolition of the wood deck and adding a 13 ft by 11 ft extension to the existing patio cover.  Footings were installed for concrete walls that were later covered in stone that we selected ourselves, and the massive curved bar was created.  The ground where the wooden deck had been was excavated and leveled to be on the same plane as the pool decking, and all, including the original covered patio, were then decked with Durango travertine pavers.  A stone wall with a gas firepit was built, and stone planters were created in a step-down patio area beyond the bar.  The outdoor kitchen with grill and side burners was intalled and connected to the natural gas line.  The hot tub was reinstalled to the far south side of the patio, adjacent to the bar and next to a floor-to-ceiling wall that now houses a TV cabinet.
Almost as an afterthought, we decided that our existing pre-fab sunroom needed an update as well, and, once again, Doug designed a new sunroom exactly to our specifications.  We wanted "real" walls, a higher ceiling and picture windows, as well as a "real" roof and tie-in to our HVAC system.  All were accomplished to give us a year-round room that has become a favorite place to sit and watch the sun go down.
The final step was completing the landscaping; Doug took us to the wholesaler to select the plants we desired and had them installed in well-prepared beds.  All work was done with local building permits and inspections.  Deadlines and projected dates were consistently met.  All construction materials and debris were removed.

Excellent work on design with 3D rendering - really got a good visual on what the finished product would look like.
The actual result was better than we anticipated.
Project took about 2.5 months
Only negatives were their AV subs who they have changed (new sub very good).

John Thorburn and his partner were always very responsive, professional and courteous. Neatness was unusual for cleaning up each day and attempting understand and work with us to disrupt life as little as possible.

Suburbia Oasis was one of several contractors I contacted for ideas and estimates for this project. After meeting with Doug and seeing his computer generated plan it was an easy decision. My wife and I are very visual people and the plan put together by Doug was amazing. It included your actual site plan measurements and the ability to move around the project in a 3D fashion. Doug has great artistic vision and is easy to get along with and communicate with. John is a great guy that is responsible for the actual construction part of the project and was always responsive and on top of things during the construction phase. I admit that I am VERY detail oriented and very particular about things like this. Both Doug and John worked with me at all times and were able to easily meet my strict requirements. We have been enjoying our back yard for over two years and have only had to have a couple of minor lighting repairs made. Most recently, after a valve on a drain pipe for the waterfall cracked during the long stretch of sub-freezing weather, they came right out and repaired it. I have recommended Suburbia Oasis to several of my friends, three of which hired them with excellent outcomes. I guess my biggest compliment would be that I would have Doug and John over to have a beer in my backyard retreat anytime they wanted to stop by.

We purchased a fairly large lot here in Dallas where we built our lovely home. By the time the construction of the estate was complete, the land itself had been completely disheveled. The huge, blank space of unkempt dirt was daunting- we had no idea where to begin the process of landscaping the property. I called many landscapers, but Suburbia Oasis was the only team I met with. Doug and John helped me transform my blank space into an oasis of beauty. They turned my front yard, side yard, and backyard into my personal retreat. They were able to take my simple ideas and use their creative talent to renovate my estate?s landscape into my own lush nature trail. Not only were they creative, but Doug and John, owners of Suburbia Oasis, were both very responsive to phone calls, reliable, and on time everyday to the job site. I never encountered a service issue with the team. It really was my pleasure working with Doug and John and their team. I continue a very successful relationship with the company, and they have remained to be so helpful throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend Suburbia Oasis for their impeccable customer service, and most importantly, their creativity and innovation that always delivers a beautiful product!

This was a big project that took several months. Started with demo of existing arbor, conditioning of exisiting subsuface around pool (cool crete over agregate). Decision to place flagstone over was a good one. We tested the substructure by removing the pool coping and looking at the bond beam, repaired the seam between the original patio and the pool with rebar and concrete to eliminate a buckling problem. Also addressed drainage issues by installing large replacement PVC and drains and floating flagstone at desired slopes. The only significant issue has been the seal between the new patio roof and the chimney - have had water trickling in during heavy rains. SO is committed to making this right and refusing to accept final payment until we are 100% satisfied. I have every confidence this final item on the punch list will be resolved soon.

The patio ended up looking very nice, but they didn't complete all the work. I had to have a family member complete the final touch ups to get job done properly.
