"In response to the customer’s review: I received a call from the customer in January of 2014. We had an informal conversation about fencing in the approximately 1 acre in the rear of his property. Across the following 4 months we had subsequent conversations about the type of fence he wanted. On April 9, 2014 I received the first draw for setting the posts. We had agreed that he would buy most of the materials and he would pay me for my labor. As part of our discussions he wanted to make sure the posts were set lower than the permafrost layer of 16-18 inches. We verbally agreed to a depth of 24-30 inches, as the engineering specs for a post that is 60 inches tall above ground, is a hole depth minimum of 20 inches. I told him I would bottom out my auger which would hit a max depth of 28-30 inches. On May 1, 2014 I had completed the setting of all 67 posts and was paid the final draw for this phase. The customer had to save up for the next part of the fence and had some personal issues which delayed the project until the fall. In October he began painting the posts and discovered some posts had become loose in the soil. I went over to investigate and due to the dry summer his ground had developed many fissures and cracks. We talked and researched the issue and we agreed that I would reset the loose posts. He disagrees that the dry ground loosened any posts but I contend that it was the main issue. Having come to an impasse, I agreed to reset “all” 67 posts at my expense but I told him it would take time to pull them and reset them and I had purchased a new auger over the summer so we agreed that I would reset them to as close to 36 inches as possible, which is way deeper than necessary on a 5 foot tall fence. In November 2014, I began pulling and resetting posts. Toward the end of the month he became impatient with the progress, got a machine and pulled the posts I hadn’t pulled yet. He also set a deadline for me to finish the resetting by December 31, 2014. I told him I would comply with the deadline and kept working on the resetting. On December 11th, 2014 I had 40 out of the 67 posts reset. Two days later he sent me a text message saying I no longer needed to reset the last 27 posts. I was confused by this and sent him and email inquiring further. He eventually emailed me a reply stating that he was serious about not letting me finish the post resetting. In conclusion: He was frustrated that the posts became loose, which I understand, but many of the posts that were 28-30 inches that he pulled with a machine were loose from the dry cracked ground. I took pictures in a 36 inch deep hole that had fissures and cracks clear down to 31 inches. When I finished the original post setting the posts were solid even through July when I checked them. His soil in the acreage had extreme drought which was not due to a problem with my workmanship. As I stated, I was in the process resetting and re-drilling the holes deeper on my time and expense until he told me to stop unexpectedly. I disagree with his review of my company and that he didn’t mention any specifics about his dry ground with deep fissures and cracks that occurred throughout the late summer into September 2014 a full 5 months after his posts were set in the moist springtime ground. During our call I explained the work that needed to be done - one post replacement and gate repair. He quoted a very reasonable price of just $90 with a metal post (my previous repair guy charged $125 for wooden post). Gate repair was estimated at $125. He said he would come out and give an estimate. Repair work would be done later based on our schedule. He arrived on the scheduled date to give an estimate. My wife asked to check other posts and we found two more posts that needed to be replaced. Wes did not try to upcharge or upsell anything we didn't need. He was courteous and honest and provided an accurate quote for the work. He emailed me the quote and even offered a discount (Angies List members 5%) on his already reasonable prices. My neighbor wanted to get some other work done on his fence. Wes even offered him the same discount.
We exchanged few messages and calls and were able to work out a day for the work. He showed up in freezing cold on-time. We were worried how he would be able to work through the frigid temperature. Of course, we were wrong. Not only did he finish everything on time, he did a fantastic job on the repairs as well.
We were lucky that we found Wes and Alligator Fence & Repair. The only sad thing about the whole experience is I didn't find him sooner. Wes does a great job, at reasonable prices with excellent communication throughout. I highly recommend Alligator Fence & Repair and Wes for all fence work.
Updated: Classified the discount as Angies List 5% discount. Thank you Wes for everything.
"Thanks for the review! I wanted to mention that the discount was a 5% discount the customer asked about relating to Angie's List. I told him I would honor a general discount from Angie's List even though I wasn't running a special. He was a great person to work with and I thank him for his business! (And yes I am giving his neighbor the same discount as I am doing his repair next)"
"Thanks for your review and I look forward working with you again!"
"Thank you for your review! Normally I charge $90 for a post replacement, since the customer wanted to buy the materials, I deducted $20 fro my cost."
He is only one guy. He is the only one answering the phone. He is the only one doing the job to so it going to be taking longer to do the job. He takes his time and explained everything to me.
"Thanks for the review! The customer called me again in the fall of 2014 and I replaced his entire fence and added an extra walk gate on the side of his house that had none."
"Thank you for you business and I was more than happy to honor the 10% off coupon for you!!"
