"Mr. Fred C was very professional and friendly and answered any questions I had. His work was absolutely fantastic!! He told me what the problem was with both of the sinks, gave me an estimate and explained the options for repairs and payment plans which fit my budget very well; since the sink faucets were the original ones, he explained how putting new faucets on would be a good option since they payment option I chose included a two year warranty on parts and labor and the new faucets are beautiful and a well known, high quality and reliable brand; all shut off valves under both sinks were replaced with high quality parts as well. He had the bathtub draining very quickly once he worked on it. He cleaned up all of the trash and wore shoe protectors during his work. I highly recommend John Moore Services and will be using their services any time I have plumbing problems!!"

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

It is generally not recommended to pour hot or boiling water down a drain to unfreeze pipes due to significant risks. In some cases, the sudden temperature change can cause more ice buildup or produce steam, which increases pressure and could cause the pipe to burst, leading to costly damage and potential burn injuries. While hot water might help with a partially frozen drainpipe, it is unlikely to thaw a completely blocked water pipe further down the system. Additionally, boiling water can damage plastic pipes over time. Safer and more effective methods include using a space heater near the frozen section or applying hot towels directly to the pipe.

Clearing typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on the blockage size and location.

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. They’ll also have the diagnostic tools and experience necessary to remove the clog entirely rather than providing a temporary solution, as a handyperson might. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your plumber’s professional licenses before hiring.

While technically possible, it is unlikely that a clogged toilet will fix itself. Clogs caused by water-soluble materials like toilet paper or human waste may eventually break down in the water, allowing flow to resume. However, this can take time, and any clogs from solid objects require manual removal. In most scenarios, especially if you don't have another bathroom, it is best to fix the clog yourself or call a plumber.

Grease buildup, tree roots, and foreign objects often cause blockages. Regular maintenance prevents major issues.
