Cruz Carpentry

He showed up to take measurements and he told me that he was going to fax an order supply to the hardware store.  I drove all the way out there, 30 miles, to authorize my credit card for the supplies.  He never submitted the order form, over $4000 in materials.  He showed up this past Wednesday morning, but he didn't have any of the supplies with him and didn't have the 2 extra men he promised.  We had to drive back to home depot, another 30 miles, then none of the supplies were ready.  We had to search for them all in the store, which took hours.  We came back and he put in about 4 hours of work that day.  I paid him for 1 day, $350.  He was supposed to come at 8am on Thursday.  He didn't get here until 9am and then takes a break on 10am.  They took an hour lunch, and they left at 5pm.  So, again it wasn't a full 9 hour day, and they still didn't have the supplies that day.  I paid him another $350 for Thursday.  He was supposed to come back Friday (yesterday), but never showed up or called.  I called him today and spoke to him.  He said he had to cancel his contract with me, that he wouldn't be finishing the job.  He won't give my money back, that he feels he deserves it.  I need this job finished.  But, I want my money back from him if he's not going to finish the work.  I don't know how he can just cancel the contract over the phone.  Plus, I feel he already broke the contract by not having the appropriate number of workers or staying the agreed amount of hours.  Also, I paid him in cash because he asked for cash.  He never gave me a receipt.

His name is Larry Cruz. I used them in the past 2 weeks and they finished the roof yesterday. It was a good price. We had a big hail storm down here so there are a lot of roofers running around. He had done some other work for me and I was pleased, so I had him do this work. He is not the fastest roofer in the world, but he is a craftsman. What you get is good. We passed all our inspections and I have got my windstorm certificate. He did lots of little extras. It's like he has done what the job calls for and he has done better than what the job calls for because he doesn't like shoddy work. I am going to use him for some more work. He does a lot of work around the area.
