My wife's truck was having transmission issues. It's a 2005 Dodge Dakota with well over 160,000 miles - she's on the road A LOT. Her check engine light would come on and her RPMs would jump up, but otherwise the truck ran fine. Our regular mechanic doesn't do transmission work, but he recommend J's Garage. I brought the truck over to J's, and had a talk with Joe, the owner. He had one of the techs drive the truck and try to get a reading from the computer module. While this was going on, Joe took me on a tour of the shop (it's actually two shops co-located on adjacent corners. One shop does some straight mechanical work and pulls the transmissions, and the other shop is primarily for rebuilding transmissions. It's quite an impressive operation. After the tour, the tech told us that he'd had trouble getting the transmission's computer to communicate with the monitor, but in the process, the engine light had gone off and there was now no code to be read. Joe asked if I'd mind leaving the car with him for awhile - they'd drive it a bit to see if the light would come back on. He had another tech give me a ride home (1/2 hour away). That afternoon, he called back to say they hadn't had any luck, and that we would need to take the truck home and drive it - bringing it back if the light came back on - without a code, they wouldn't know where to start. (No charge, by the way.) I drove the truck for several days until the light came back on. The code indicated that there was an issue with the computer module - in one of the solenoids. At this point, I was about to go out of town and my wife was about to come back into town, but only briefly before she flew back out again. Joe made sure both my wife and I were where we needed to be when we needed to get there. At one point he had my wife dropped off at the airport and at another point he had her picked up at home. After they isolated the problem, they repaired it quickly and at the low end of the estimate. These guys are great!
