-We were told that the Pickle roofers would arrive at 7am and knock on our door, announce their arrival and ask to to investigate our attic for roof alignment. Also, unlike our neighbors getting their roofs done and having shingles/roofing thrown over the side of the house into the yard, our roofers would lower the shingles down to guys below in a gentle and organized manner. Reality: we were woken to the workers slamming their ladders against our master bedroom windows at 6:15am. Pieces of roof were being haphazardly thrown off all over the yard, into our rose bushes and onto patio furniture. When I went outside to question, I was told the foreman was not there yet. A different sales guy had just arrived and he was very rude- he told me that the initial guy had lied to me- "that's not how we do it." (They did however do the work in a more orderly and respectful fashion after that, I have to give them credit)
-We were told that we'd get a certificate in the mail stating the type of roofing we got (upgraded to high impact). We never did and it took two additional calls for requesting the certificate for it to be sent.
-Our fence was sandblasted and then re-stained. After the staining, it looked much worse than even before they started. The coloring was very blotchy and we suddenly had a fence that was embarrassing- about 4 different colors, depending on which place you looked. I asked the guy who was working where the fence guy was that I had originally talked to for picking colors, and whether he would be returning so I could ask him about it, and this man did not speak enough English to understand me or answer in any fashion other than a shrug. After phone calls to the company, we ended up having the initial guy come back and completely re-do the fence, spending another 4 or so hours on the fence to make it look presentable.
-When the insurance contractor inspected our house, he missed multiple window screens that were damaged. When the window/screen guy came, a few windows were obviously not completed. After our Pickle contact came out and agreed, 3 more damaged windows were replaced. Unfortunately, when the window guy came back, I asked him about two more windows that were damaged, and he agreed- more hail damaged. (We didn't notice initially because were upstairs behind shades). He told us he'd contact Pickle and get approval for ordering and installing the last of the screens. THIS is where Pickle really disappointed us. These two screens took many months to complete. We were initially told that we'd get two invoices- one for the roof, which we'd pay right away, and then a 2nd once all the other work was done. We actually only got one invoice for everything, including fence, screens, etc. Since we were still waiting on these last two windows, I did not feel comfortable paying the balance in full until all the work was completed. A couple months went by without hearing anything from the window guy or Pickle. I finally got a call from the company asking me why I hadn't paid. I explained the situation with the windows (she had no idea..) and she said she'd pass on the info to get the work started/completed. About another went by and I get another call from the company, this time much ruder, wondering why I hadn't paid. I again explained the situation with the windows and she too claimed she knew nothing about this and would look into it. Nothing. Finally I get a nasty voicemail from the original sales guy saying that the company was "considering my case closed" and I had to pay immediately. I contacted him and he of course had not been informed of the wait on the windows and he told us he'd look into it. Finally, the order was placed, and we got our screens installed and I paid the balance that day.
Pickle put on a good show up front and the roofers were admittedly plentiful and efficient. They seem to have done a good job, as we've had no problems. However, their office was a completely nightmare to deal with- there was apparently no communication interoffice, causing them to needlessly harass us. I would definitely not work with them in the future, nor would recommend anyone to introduce this kind of headache into their lives!
This is a very reputable and local company that we knew were not going to disappear, like some of the roofers who worked in our neighborhood post-storm.
Pickle roofing was recommended to me by a friend and co-worker. From the very first interaction with Randy Pickle, I knew he would be my roofing guy so long as I live here. Randy is extremely friendly, his staff is punctual, courteous, and professional. The prices are reasonable and affordable. Randy sent out Miguel who did outstanding work!
