At that point I did not know if a claim to the insurance company was needed and wanted an inspection before the claims inspection. Jeff Faharendorf came the following day to inspect. Jeff explained the claims process, explained the need for the check to be endorsed by the lean holders and the depreciation reimbursement. His recommendation was to file a claim. I did.
When the claims inspector was assigned and we got a firm appointment for his inspection (took about three days) Jeff agreed to come and meet the inspector. When they came down off the roof the insurance company was prepared to cut a check for the roof replacement.
At this point I had two choices, pay Jeff for his inspection services and find a roofer or sign up to have Jeff's company do the roof. After a slight delay while I checked BBB I hired Lucas Roofing.
Weather delayed the roof installation, we had some high winds in April, until May 2. All in all one month from storm to replacement I felt was pretty good.
The roofing material arrived about an hour before the crew was scheduled to begin. I have always been a fan of the efficiency of and quot;just in time planning. This was a perfect execution of that pattern.
The roofing crew arrived nearly on time in the early morning. There was some drinking of coffee an milling about before they hit the roof. When they did the 10 men on the crew worked straight until they took a late lunch about 3 in the afternoon. They finished at dusk. During the day they continually policed the yard picking up scraps and rolling the yard with a magnet to pick up nails. I will admit that there were a few scraps of a couple of sq inches each found. The recent rain did flush some nails off the roof as well. However, considering the volume of material that came off the roof a few sq inches is minimal. (Better than 5 sigma).
Given that this event happen in the middle of our preparing to list our house and that it did add stress we came out the other side with a 50 year transferable certificate that we can present to the new owners.
- Got on roof and inspected for hail damage.
- Provided pictures of the damaged spots.
- Provided an estimate as to the probability that my insurance company will pay for it.(50/50)
- Recommended filing a claim, will meet with the claims adjuster when they come.
Jeff was referred by a local insurance person as an expert in roofing and inspections. Jeff came out, showed me where the other company literally destroyed my roof to get the claim paid and came back to me with a quote of $10,000. I had hoped to just credit that money off the sale of the house but lenders will not approve loans if there is a roof claim and there is no new roof. I was really stuck.
Jeff and his wife Heather offered to put the roof on and accept payment when my house closed. Financially, they didn't have to offer that... it was an expensive roof...and they put it on the week of Christmas!
To add to this, Jeff originally quoted $10,000 for the roof and when the job was complete, he handed me a bill for $8,800. He had overestimated the size of the roof. Any other company would have billed the original quote, but not Jeff. How's that for morals and ethics? You can't find that in most service providers today. I couldn't believe it.
Jeff and my real estate agent became fast friends and he is now her and quot;go toand quot; person for roofs, inspections advice, etc. He has a wealth of knowledge regarding anything that has to do with your house.
And to take that one step further, the day the appraiser came to my house, my water heater had busted and flooded the downstairs. The appraiser contacted my real estate to advise her of the situation. I was not available by phone, and not knowing what else to do, she called Jeff!
Jeff took it upon himself to immediately come out to the house to meet my realtor and got the situation under control. The appraiser was taking pictures and starting her report which would have not been good at all! Jeff asked the appraiser to give us 24 hours to replace the water heater and dry the carpets and come back. AND SHE AGREED! This fiasco could have ruined the sale on my house!!! Jeff immediately called one of his many contacts who came within hours to replace my water heater while I tended to drying the carpets...with industrial fans that Jeff lent me of course! Somehow within 24 hours we managed to get the mess cleaned up and the house restored before the appraiser came back out. I'm still not sure how Jeff pulled that off, but he did! I'm not sure why he came to help with a busted water heater when i couldn't be found, but he did. And he never sent me a bill or anything else for his time/services.
Jeff's roofing company rocks by the way - professional, tidy and quick. Iand quot;m just so blown away by everything else it's easy to forget to mention how awesome my roof looked and that my roof was done in one day and the entire mess was cleaned up tidy.
MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCE EVER! I could not be more pleased with my roof, but that was really only 10% of the story. Great company, great service, great individual that owns this company, super family and an extended and quot;thank youand quot; to Heather. So much thanks and appreciation for everything ya'll did.
The next day his crew came back, replaced the damaged shingles with higher grade shingles, and installed a water and ice shield. He guaranteed me that my roof would never leak from that spot again with that water and ice shield. Not only did Jeff fix my roof, he calmed my fears by coming out to my house and getting all the ice off the roof within an hour, when the other two roofing companies I talked to really didn't care. Very surprising, as they were also listed in Angie's List and also had good reviews; it just shows you that who you choose to do business with does matter. Jeff also saved me from buying a new water heater as he noticed that I was speaking to a plumber when he arrived at my house. I told him that the plumber was recommending that I replace my water heater. He immediately had concerns that I probably didn't need a new water heater when I told him what was going on with it. He called his personal plumber and had him come out to look at my water heater; turns out I only needed to replace a part. He replaced the part and now the water heater works just fine. I believe Jeff went above and beyond what was necessary. It's very obvious after just a few minutes talking with Jeff that he gets it, he's not only in the roofing business, but he's also in the people business. Many service companies don't always get that. Living in North Texas where we get a lot of wind, hail and ice, it's just a matter of time when you will have to replace or repair your roof; I know who I'm calling when that time comes.
caulk and painted the windows, door and garage frames, all the repair work took a couple of days. In addition, Jeff helped with a very complicated job, fixing a rafter in the attic directly over the A/C unit, which proved to be very difficult to maneuver around. Jeff’s staff
did a great job. I was very pleased with the overall performance and it was a pleasure working with both Jeff and Heather (Office Manager).
Jeff's crew showed up the morning of the job and the crew foreman was active in the supervision and the completion of the project.
My impression of Jeff is that he is honest, honorable and conscientious, he is a man that takes pride in all services that he and his company provide. The job foreman exhibited that same traits, so it appears that Lucas Roofing takes care to hire individuals that will represent their company with the same attitude and the desire to exceed a customer's expectations.
My wife has flowers planted all around the house and the crew took precautions ensure no plants were destroyed (this may seem trivial but it was very important to her). Once the crew finished installing the roof they quickly cleaned the area around the house and the only evidence that they had been there was a beautifully installed roof. Jeff contacted me to ensure that I was pleased with the job and asked if I had any concerns/issues related to the roof replacement. He explained what I was required to do with regard to the insurance claim and so the processing of the claim was efficient and expeditious.
I obviously would highly recommend Lucas Roofing and Inspections to my friends, my family and to anyone who requires the services that they provide.
I will probably be using them in the near future to install the attic foil in my parents house.
