Dr. Alan Coffman, a 16 year employee of the hospital, purchased the practice upon Dr. Overton's retirement in 2010, in order to continue exceptional service and reputation of Allen Veterinary Hosptial. We treat all sorts of companion animals with special emphasis in dogs and cats. Three clinic cats roam the premises making sure that everyone feels at home, kept company by three birds, 2 ferrets (Sid and Cameron), and an aquarium full of fish. The pictures below show a good idea of what their back medical area looks like. They don’t have the appropriate and necessary equipment needed for surgeries and testing for a hospital. My dog buddy had a dental cleaning the day before these pictures were taken. The chart notes were completely blank. No vitals were taken or monitored. No pain medication before during or after was given to my dog. They don’t monitor the oxygen and gas level. So I had to rush my Dog back up to the hospital the day after his surgery. He wasn’t able to breathe and his tongue and gums were purple and blue.He collapsed over in his crate and he was struggling to breathe for Air When I got up there they took me and my dog back to their medical area gave him a couple of shots and then stuck him in this gross disgusting oxygen box. Again they did not monitor his vitals. Neither day gave him no IV, no Oxsee meter, blood pressure, weight, no EKG, They never took bloodwork up or any testing on him. The oxygen box was a babysitter. After an hour they decide to finally take an x-ray. They tell me they’re closing at 6 o’clock. This is on a Thursday. So they told me I had to leave at 6 o’clock and go to the ER for additional care. However they don’t close until 7:30 PM on Thursdays. My dog ended up dying in my car on the way to the ER. I didn’t know it till after I had meetings with Dr. Coffman. But he had chronic Heart failure with pulmonary edema. And a very bad collapsing trachea. They never should’ve performed the surgery in the first place. Previous bloodwork up that was taken Oct. 2017. Dr. Coffman said, , “his blood work up was Within normal limits. And that he was fine.” After looking at his bloodwork up & medical charts. His bloodwork up was not within normal limits. This goes back to my complaints and concerns I was seen in 2017. My dog was not eating and drinking, having a hard time with walking, had seizures and an anxiety disorder. I thought crazy when I would bring him and saying somethings wrong with him and they would say, “he’s fine, there’s nothing wrong with him.” And I would walk out and leave. I had no idea he was going to Organ failure. His liver and heart was shutting down. And they insisted I get his teeth cleaned. But he was never a candidate or qualified or having surgery and being under anesthesia. They are careless and the quality of service is very poor. They don’t know how to perform a thorough exam. And to troubleshoot diagnosing medical problems and what treatment is needed. ***Many other people that have used this practice has had the same or similar issues and are undergoing Spayed &neuter’s and dental cleanings. The staff is not organized, professional, or trained. The front and back office is not sanitized or clean. They leave Oh disgusting IV bags in the vacuum cords. I found a dead cricket when I was in the back with my dog. People complained about seeing blood, urine, poop & vomit on the walls and floors. This is a chaotic environment. They overbook appointments. And a normal wait time when scheduled is at least an hour. This practice is also under investigation by the state of Texas for 21 months now. This case is currently under review. I highly recommend not using this practice there’s a reason why this place is so dirt cheap. They cut corners. They have made cosmetic changes due to being investigated.

Great! This place was so busy, but they got us in and out very quickly. The vet we saw was very professional and our new dog was pretty comfortable. No dog loves the vet, but all in all this visit was very good. The price for the check up and for aspirating a lump on the dog was very reasonable. I suspect we will continue to use this vet clinic.

Wonderful. Best bunch of vets I have ever come across. Very reasonably priced. They have been in Allen for a long long time.

I have an old dog that has kidney issues due to kidney failure. They are very good. I would rate them an "A" on everything except their physical location. It's kind of old and too many people are in the waiting room. The waiting room is small but as far as the Vet, service and price. I rate everything an "A". It gets a little annoying because the place is small. There's too many animals in there.

We no longer go through them. If you get one of the senior vets the experience will be good. If you get one of the junior vets, it will not be a good experience. We didn't end up taking their advice on the diagnosis. They need to stop worrying about how much money it's going to cost and improve their testing and have test supplies available. They knew what the test needed to be, but they didn't have it in stock.

It was a life and death situation. We ended up rushing her to another vet and she's fine today.

I've used Allen Veterinary Hospital since 2005. and they've proven time and again that they genuinely care about my pets, and the other pets they care for. Their prices are reasonable and even so, they are willing to work with you if you can't pay for an expensive procedure or course of treatment all at once. They can get busy at times (esp. Saturday mornings, weekdays after 4) and may not be as meticulous as some practices, but they're all heart. In difficult circumstances they are compassionate and understanding, and always offer practical advice and realistic options. The current owner, Dr. Alan Coffman, has improved the processes and procedures, but it's still a very casual environment. He's also added a boarding business, Ace Pet Resort, near the vet clinic.

Dr. Overton was amazing till the day he retired and Dr Coffman and Shiplov have carried on his wonderful practice. They are caring, kind, knowledgable, and will always go above and beyond for the animals in their care

I have been going to this vet since i got my dog 2 years ago.  I have since had my parents switch from their vet to this vet.  It is not the newest office but the care and respect they show the animals is unmatched by any other i have been to.  The are very punctual when it comes to appointments and if you walk in which i have done they try to get you in as soon as they can.  The counter staff is always friendly and smiling and there are usually a dog or cat walking around the office.  I am glad i found this vet and refuse to go to any other.

We have been going to this vet's office since we moved to Allen almost 25 years ago. I have recommended this office in the past and will continue to recommend it to anyone I know who needs vet services.  Currently our maltese needed her shots and is also receiving ongoing medicine treatment for a heart condition.  The doctors are very nice and thorough every single visit throughout the years.

One of the doctors met us at the office about 11:30 one night (years ago) when one of our dogs (pug) needed emergency medical care.  Another time we had to get emergency care for a dog while on vacation in Georgia.  The vet's office in GA contacted the vet here in Allen several times to get history and his opinion on the treatment she was using to make sure he agreed since we would be bring the dog back here to his care.  I feel that in both of these cases (and others throughout the years) the doctors at

Allen Veterinary Hospital have gone above and beyond!!

We currently have 3 dogs and 2 cats treated at this office (1 dog and 1 cat are my grown daughter's).  I will use this vet's office as long as I have pets and as long as they are in the Allen area.  In my opinion, there is no better vet.

I returned and my dog had lost 25% of his overall body weight and was clearly lethargic. I checked with the clinic and they told me he was fine all weekend which was clearly not true. I ended up having to put him down at the end of that week and they promptly sent me a bill.

It was a good experience. They're 45 minutes away from where I live but I've been going there for years. My dog got better after I brought him to the hospital. They're good. My dog gets to meet new people in there. You can pretty much request which doctor you want and I always see Dr. Coffman if possible. They take care of the animals. I've been to a lot of vets who are in it for the money and not for the animal. Their pricing is very competitive and on the lower range probably. There was a time when he got up at midnight to deliver my chihuahua's babies. He treats animals the right.

This was amazing. I called, and was able to schedule an appointment rapidly. (My cat has asthma and speed was important as he needed his shot)
It was rainy, so I left the cat in the car to wait while I went in and filled out the paperwork. The receptionist offered to have the assistant help me bring in the cat when the tech was ready to see him. No small favor! He weighs 16 lbs.
From the time the cat left the car until the time he was back in the car for the ride home was no more than 5 minutes. The office is run like a well-oiled machine!!! In, out and DONE!
And the price was better than the last 2 vets I've taken him to.
