Our first impression of Chris was that he seemed very professional and talked a very good game. His price was significantly higher than other quotes we had gotten which we unfortunately interpreted to mean it would come with additional quality. Unfortunately we were very mistaken and it became very apparent that he could not deliver the quality we required for the job. Initially things went well during the demolition phase of the project however once we got through with demolition and into the remodel things began to go badly very quickly. The first sign of trouble was when Chris didn't remove the old oak flooring the the pine subflooring under that. I'm no expert but even I know that tile requires a very solid foundation or else the grout will crack. The next sign was during installation of the casement window. The window was put in incorrectly and had to be reinstalled. Due to this mistake he was unable to properly center the window after re-installation. From here things went from bad to worse as we got into the more detail oriented phases of the remodel. It was apparent his attention to detail was non-existent. The tile board was not properly installed, the sheet rock sanding and mudding was poorly done. The straw that broke the camels back was when we saw the incredibly poor job he did when installing the window and door trim. I cannot even describe how badly this was done. At every phase of this job it was obvious that Chris wanted to finish as quickly as possible in order to get his next check. He was supposed to bring in a portalet but continually resisted doing so and insisted that he could work around the toilet until it was time to move it. In our opinion this slowed down the project and made it impossible to properly shore up the bathroom floor to prevent the tile from cracking in the long term. Unfortunately we waited until very late in the project and had paid him a significant portion of the total amount for the remodel when we fired him. After we fired Chris we found even more examples of his poor craftsmanship when we hired a more competent replacement to fix all the problems he left behind. I hope this review spares you the wasted money and pain we went through. Do not hire this man!
Description of Work: Chris was hired to do a full remodel on a bathroom of our 1926 Bungalow home. The project was scheduled to take 4 weeks to complete. This is the only bathroom in our home so Chris said that he could limit the amount of time we had to spend without a toilet. His estimate included the rental of a portalet during the time we would be without a toilet. Demolition of the old bathroom included the removal of the old plaster walls and ceiling, removal of the old cast iron plumbing input and drain lines, removal of the old oak flooring that had been covered with linoleum and subfloor, removal of bathroom closet to expand bathroom area and the removal of old cast iron tub and shower surround. Once demolition was complete the new work was to consist of installation of new floor joints and beams to shore up the flooring, replacing the existing door with a pocket door, installation of new plumbing and electrical, installation of floor and wall tile with decoration strip, relocation of the toilet to the location where the removed closet was, installation of a bathroom fan, installation of plumbing for cast iron claw foot tub, installation of bathroom lights and possibly the building of a custom vanity if things went well. Additionally we asked Chris to install a radiant heat floor warming mat under the tile.
