"In reply to (deleted member name) complaint, I would first like to say that the contract was completed in full. When we first came to look at the project, another contractor had started a retaining wall on site and the base course and footer was installed improperly. In our discussion with the homeowners, we told them our concern that the wall probably would not be able to withstand the hydrostatic pressure due to improper installation of the base course but we would do all we could to try and help the issue. In the contract, we described everything we would do to help with the pressure behind the wall by installing a wrapped curtain drain with a wider than normal amount of washed stone behind the wall and then drilling weep holes into the concrete footer to help remove the water as quickly as possible. All of the work was completed as described in the contract. We had some very heavy rains over a week’s span and the wall failed, which unfortunately caused the loss of a big part of the back yard. I came back on site to look at the damage with the homeowners and it was mentioned at that time that this might be our fault even though we had discussed in length the issues with this wall that was not started by us but we were asked to finish as was. All parts of the project we started from scratch have withstood and are the parts that he mentioned in his reply that they are happy with. Upon hearing that the homeowners might be blaming us for this failure, I did not follow up any further with them.
