Jason and his crews created a stone fire pit with five huge stone seat, and that looks real nice. He also build a stone bridge which lead to the fire pit over the ditch with details.
The whole project finished by the end of October. It took much longer then was scheduled, due to the weather, the stone vender and his personal issues, but over all, I am happy with the work been done consider that this was not an easy project.
Jason completed the first phase of a backyard project for us on 8/2/2013. See our review dated 8/14/2013. We scheduled work to be performed by another contractor the following week, and Jason agreed that we?d be back in contact afterwards to scope and complete the second and final phase of our backyard landscaping project.
We began attempting to contact Jason starting on or about Monday, 8/12 as planned. The project, which ultimately ended up requiring about four days of work, took until 9/19 to complete. We had to make numerous phone calls to Jason, many of which went to a full voicemail box. When voicemail accepted messages, it took numerous messages to get a callback. Jason missed several appointments, and he and his crew no-showed nearly every scheduled work day, weather notwithstanding. So each day, we had to make more phone calls and leave more messages to find out whether Jason and crew were going to show up or when they planned to show up next. I am fully convinced that the only reason we got the project completed
when we finally did after five weeks, was because we were persistent in calling Jason several times each day, when necessary, to keep the work moving.
Jason and his company did a good job on the first phase of our project. And once it finally was completed, he did a good job on the second half as well. Throughout, Jason was apologetic for all of the problems, which he attributed to causes outside of his business. Nevertheless, we feel the numerous delays, no-shows, and lack of communication were completely unprofessional, and we were extremely frustrated and disappointed with Jason?s overall performance on this phase of the project. Unless Jason can convince you that his problems are behind him, you might be well-served in negotiating some kind of performance penalty if his committed project schedule goes late.
We had hoped that we had found a reliable replacement for our previous landscaper. Now, we regret we cannot recommend using this vendor.
"I am as disappointed in myself for not doing a better job keeping in touch with [member name removed] as I was reading the first line of his review on the second half of his project. We were displaced in the middle of the project by a separate contractor doing some concrete work in the backyard. When I received the call that they were done, we were already in the middle of another job. When we arrived on site to begin the second phase we found additional unforeseen problems below grade with both irrigation and drainage issues. Each of these caused delays because they had to be repaired before I was able to continue with the grading and seeding portion to finish up. It was my impression that he understood because I showed each of them to him in person and he agreed they needed to be fixed. Once I was able to retrieve my skid loader from the other job site I scheduled the finish grading and seeding portion with [member name removed]. We then returned and finished up with no additional problems. I walked through everything together with the customers and they seemed happy with the final results. I even discounted a portion of the work to show my appreciation for his implied understanding not only of the repair/delays but also as to a few caused by some personal issues (which I explained to him in detail but do not want to do here) that I was having at the time. I assured him that the combination of events led to exacerbating the situation far beyond what has been my normal work routine since I started my company in 1996. I will let my Angie's List reviews speak for themselves as to my commitment to my customers, my quality of work, and my work ethic... and I also know from doing this for such a long time that sometimes life just gets in the way of everything you have planned and all you can do is your best to handle it when it does. Jason Licsko"
Jason and his crew arrived within a few days as scheduled. I was even surprised to see a crew report for a half-day's work on Saturday. They did a good job of carefully exposing the irrigation lines without damage and recovering parts that we can use during reinstallation. The retaining wall also has been completed and looks great. We are on hold for completion of the reinstallation work and remaining landscape pending completion of the concrete work by another contractor and scheduling of Jason's crew.
Jason can be a little difficult to get hold of, and we went a couple of days wondering about the pace of the work, but I'm willing to attribute that to the fact that Jason is already working all day, a probably-misplaced expectation on my part of instant response now that we all carry cell phones, and the fact that I'm a former project manager. To his credit, Jason accommodated several changes in the scope of work to be done during the project. He and his team do good work, are dependable, and are fairly priced. We have been having problems with our current landscaper (Jordan's Landscaping) and hope to replace them with Landscaping Creations for our future work.
I will be using him again in the future and highly recommend him.
Jason's design work is incredible. He gave us a multilevel back yard that incorporated a garden, fire pit area, barbecue and table area, meditation area, several private gathering places, a gorgeous water feature, and the entire back yard is low maintenance. The best part of his design is his attention to the details. As we walked around the yard he helped us plan around the drainage issues (lots of them we had never thought of) and he gave us creative ways to incorporate the drainage into the design. He also put a lot of thought into the views from various angles, the sun and shade at different times of the day, how the flow would work with a crowd, how it would look during each season, and how it looked from our back windows. He even fixed some of the drainage issues our builder left!
Jason arranged to start our yard as soon as he finished some projects he was in the middle of. Our landscaping committee made it difficult to get things approved but Jason worked with us to prepare the paperwork so we could get final approval and get started. Throughout the project the only real delays we had were weather delays and some unforeseen equipment problems. Jason's crew is great, they were all very polite, and worked through some crazy hot weather.
My husband had some strong opinions about how the water feature should look and Jason was very patient in working with him and we think it is terrific. When the time came for planting he met me at a local landscaping place to pick out plants but I really just gave him a general idea of what I was looking for and let him take care of the details. I had mentioned once early in the process that I would love a peach tree and he included a dwarf peach for me in a lovely location near the patio. Once all of the plants were set where they were intended to go he had me come out and make any changes I wanted. With very few changes they all went were he had planned.
When everything was done he was very conscious of cleaning up any materials they brought in and reseeding my side yard where some of the equipment had killed the grass. It has more grass now than when he started.
We would recommend Jason to anyone looking for some serious hardscaping who wants a natural look. We will be using him again when we put in a built in BBQ and work on our side yard.
My project was smaller in scale for him, so he asked me if I could wait until he had some bigger projects as well because he prefers to buy the materials (plants, etc...) all at once, rather than here and there. I agreed - and although it did take longer to start my project than I had hoped, it was definitely worth the wait. Jason works on every project himself, which is a big plus once he gets to you, but it may mean you have to wait if you have a smaller project. Again, if I had it to do all over again I would do it the same. Everything was done to a T - including proper drainage and mulching. Jason was also very generous with tips for my yard that I could do myself to improve the look of things. He did not nickel and dime me for his advice and stuck to the budget we agreed on. Our yard really looks beautful and we are looking forward to spring. We were also pleased with the soil grading and stone repair he did. They both look very nice and were done at a reasonable price.
I first contacted Jason Licsko through Angie's List on 5/1/2012, and he promptly replied the next day. We made arrangements for him to come out and look at the job on 5/5. He emailed back with his estimate of $2500 and 3 days on 5/8. He was ready to start earlier, but my wife and I wanted to be home when the work was being done, so we arranged for a start date of 5/29 right after Memorial Day. Jason had another complicated job that ran long, and he promptly let us know that he would have to reschedule our job because of it. We rescheduled the start date for 6/14 at 8:00 am.
About 8:00 am on 6/14 Jason called ahead to let us know that they were running behind due to a flat tire on the loader and would be there at 9:00 am. Jason and his crew arrived at our house promptly on 6/14 at 9:00 am. They were very professional and friendly. The started with demolition of the deck, which went very smoothly, in spite of having to remove a bee's nest. The second day started with the demolition of the pool. Jason figured out a way to break up the concrete with the loader that did not involve bringing in a bunch of noisy jackhammers and was very efficient. They completed work on the pool demo the following morning. The excavation and grading was completed by the end of the 3rd day. Jason noticed that we had Bermuda grass, and made sure that the rhisomes from the Bermuda grass that had been dug up were distributed throughout the top layer of soil and that these would grow and fill in once they received water. They completed their work for the day by cleaning up and removing the debris that we had asked them to haul away.
Initially, Jason was unable to complete the tree limb removal portion of the work as we had some poison ivy growing on the tree's trunk. When he was preparing to leave, we discussed this and he also mentioned that there was more debris to haul away from the pool and deck demo than he originally thought, although he was going to leave the price at $2,500. I offered to pay another $250 up front to offset the extra expense and to have him come back and do the tree limb removal. He agreed to this, and he came back on 6/23 to spray the Poison Ivy with Roundup, and then we waited for the poison ivy to die. I let him know when that had happened, and he came back on 7/25 to do the tree limb removal.
We were very impressed with the results of the work that he did for us and the attention to detail. The Bermuda grass is filling in nicely just as he said it would, and the yard looks great. Jason was very easy to work with, was responsive and punctual, and always let us know what was going on and when there might be delays or potential problems. We also had looked at some pictures of his work on other jobs and discussed potential future work that we might have done. We were impressed with the aesthetics of the work that he showed us in the pictures. We would definitely consider having him come back to do other work for us in the future.
"This project was literally around the corner from me. I thought it was going to be a quick visit to repair a broken PVC pipe at the back-flow valve. However, it turned out that during the break trash got into the main line causing a few of the valves to stick open resulting in those zones running continuously with the system on. There was no zone identification chart in the timer box and to complicate matters further, the Bermuda lawn had grown over almost every valve box cover that wasn't located in a bed. After making a few assumptions - some of which were correct and others which were not - I was able to locate the 2nd valve box that contained the final valve that was stuck in the open position. With team work and a shop vac we were able to clear the valve in it's original position. This client was very helpful and even offered to fill back in all the areas that we had damaged during the repair process. It was very satisfying to have been able to help him get his system up and running just in time for the summer drought!"
"Driving over two very steep hills in Franklin led me to the Member's limestone entrance and up a long sloped driveway to their beautiful home. A very deep property that goes uphill all the way. At the top was Member playing guitar on the covered front porch... simply picture perfect. The simple fact that I got to call their place my office for the day makes me a very lucky guy!"
"I was very pleased with the outcome of the overall project. The front entrance is much nicer after we replaced the broken concrete sidewalk with the natural flagstone. The back yard had some drainage issues (ponding water) due to the very uneven paver access to the back basement entrance and deck. We removed the pavers, replaced the footing to make a solid base, and then re-installed the pavers to make a much smoother surface that will last. Popped out a few rotted railroad ties and replaced them with capped block walls and it all came together quite well! It is always a pleasure to work for people who really appreciate your hard work to make their homes a better place!"
our only issue was communication about the timing of when the work would take place. the project was put off for several weeks for various (valid) reasons - weather, etc. the fact that it had to be delayed wasn't the issue, it is that the delay was not proactively communicated to us. we would agree on a day, no one would show up, and only after calling myself did I find out the reason. we would have preferred to have been contacted that day to be told the project would have to be put off because of "x" and then we would have felt informed.
"It was a pleasure working for the member. Minimizing damage to the ground that could be caused by driving my skid loader around with a 36" auger on the front of it (we planted some really big trees) was a major concern for me. The few delays were pretty much due to very wet ground which would have contributed heavily to turf damage making mowing it this spring a very rough ride indeed! I really appreciated the opportunity to do this restoration project. It will certainly help reduce the huge amount of mowing that large space required. I am sure that time will be used for much more enjoyable activities in the future! I am also really looking forward to driving by in a few years to see how well it looks like a natural environment for all the birds and native wildlife."
"I have to say that this was one of the most interesting back yards I have ever seen in my entire career. Once completed it contained everything a family could wish for. The lower left end of the property was re-graded to include a two-level gravel patio with stone walls and a fire pit (perfect place to set up a couple of tents and camp). Leaving the patio and rising up in grade toward the center we installed a dry stream (to carry the water away from the driveway located up above) with landscaping and a path through an existing island of very tall trees. The central portion already had a concrete patio with a brick fireplace connected to the back of the house. Directly behind it was an unusable steep slope leading back to the property line. We re-graded and installed a terraced vegetable garden with stone borders and a gravel path through the center leading to the upper right side (level with the existing patio). We turned that area into a more manicured lawn for the kids to play soccer on. Foundation beds around the back and side of the house as well as pine straw beds surrounding the turf under the existing mature trees really shows off the green grass. The entire back yard overlooks a valley below so the view from any perspective is absolutley picture perfect. I really appreciate them letting me have a fair bit of creative license to modify the ideas conveyed to me in the original plans. They were all a pleasure to work with as was being in that backyard every day. It really is one of the most relaxing spaces I have ever helped to construct and I hope they enjoy it for years to come!"
"This project addressed multiple problems caused by a very narrow, steep and shady side yard. The installation of a new, irrigated ground cover bed has now eliminated the yearly dead turf grass and resulting erosion. As a bonus the side yard now looks rich and green and will only get better as it thickens up - no seeding or mowing required!"
"I am very fortunate that almost all of my customers are such good people! I went out with the intention of installing a new drip system but upon arrival saw that the original installation was still basically sound. I made a few repairs where there was damage due to someone previously cutting the main line in a few places while pruning the shrubs. I aslo installed a new clock that makes the system a breeze to use. Problem solved. She was so pleased she even gave me a $50 tip! Sweet! Again... another wonderful experience from an Angie's List customer."
