Carroll Heating & Air

About us

Carroll Heating & Air is a small heating and air company operating out of Powell, Tennessee. Tim Carroll started the company in 1982 and has run the business since. We pride ourselves on our work and strive to help our customers to the best of our ability. We operate two installer teams and two service technicians Monday through Friday. We have one technician on call from 5 o'clock until 10 o'clock at night for emergency calls. We are usually able to install a new system in a two week window. Service calls can usually be completed the day you call. (This excludes particularly hot or cold days when systems seem to strike.) By principal we complete no heat or no air calls before providing routine or "check up" services. We hope our customer appreciate and understand this choice. Having two technicians limits our ability to schedule appointments. Our technicians might spend 3 hours at a call to change a motor or they may spend 5 minutes to replace batteries. For this reason, we cannot provide an exact time period. We hope our customers understand the limitations of a small business, but still chose to work with us. If you are building a new home or thinking about replacing an old system, Carroll Heating & Air provides free estimates. We work with our customer's to find the right time and date to fit your schedule. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide financing, but we are more than happy to discuss other options.

They're generally reliable. I don't know how their prices compare to other services. They are a little sketchy, but 90 percent of the time they are good. They need to improve general knowledge of their systems.

This company has had 6 tries at repairing an HVAC system that they
installed in our new home 2 years ago. Even though the work was done
under warranty we were still charged over $500 for labor. The system
still does not work and we are now stuck paying for the only part that
they did not replace, the compressor. Please learn from my mistakes and
avoid this company at all costs.

The first day in east Tennessee we had 80 degree temperatures, our AC failed. We called Carroll Heating and Air, who had repaired our furnace last year. We were happy with their work before, and were happy with the work this time. If we have further problems, we will call them again.

There was a problem with the air conditioner upstairs and I called them to check the same. A technician who was 79 year old comes and advises us to change the part. About 30 days later, the air conditioner again stops working and when I call them, they advise to replace another part. This was going on and off with a year old unit. There was no problem with the same kind of unit installed downstairs. In a year’s time I have had almost all the parts replaced. One day, when I went upstairs and found the temperature to be 86 degree Celsius, I called another company. A 25 year old technician came and advised, that the radiator fuel was filled way above the maximum. He also checked the entire unit and found the coil replaced, was of a wrong type. When I call them, they give me a sigh as if they are fed up and question me what I am doing with the unit. They advise that they look into the availability and send the technician within couple of days. I will never use their services in future.

Update 4/7/2014:

I am now replacing the unit and it turns out that the entire installation was completely inadequate. They only installed a single 14x14 air return on a 3.5 ton unit. Now I will be paying for both a new unit and installation of an adequate return system. Bad equipment, bad installation and bad service.

I got bids from four contractors to do this work. The bids were anywhere from $40,000 to $20,000. They were the lowest bid, and they are using the exact same equipment. I'm using this company because of the price. They have done excellent work on the installation.

Our new furnace works a lot better than the old one did. The employees at Carroll Heating & Air were great in helping us pick out the most efficient furnace for our home. They were able to install it the day after we purchased it and they even took the old furnace with them when they left.

Carroll Heating & Air repaired our furnace in one visit. The man who came out explained that the problem was the thermocouple and he replaced it. The furnace has worked perfectly since. He also did not make any mess and what he did make he cleaned up before leaving.
