Landon Smelcer Construction

This man is inexperienced, a liar, and a thief. In May 2011, Landon Smelcer was hired to completely remodel my home which included taking it back to the original studs and starting over: all new electrical, all new plumbing; all new drywall: all new insulation: brand new roof including sheathing; redesign of layout according to architectural plans so all new interior framing; new bathrooms; new kitchen. A new front porch overhang was constructed to change style of exterior. All new windows and doors were installed. The garage was supposed to be enclosed. When presented with the scope of work, Mr. Smelcer stated he was fully trained and licensed to do this type work. From the beginning there were problems. Walls were framed crooked (never plumbed). Mr. Smelcer demanded the ceiling joists had to be completely redone but he did so without ever leveling his new joists. These new ceiling joists are as much as 3" out in places which gives the ceiling a waved looked. Walls were framed crooked (never plumbed). The new roof Mr. Smelcer installed ALWAYS leaked. And these are just SOME of the problems Mr. Smelcer created. When confronted with his shoddy workmanship, rather than offer a viable solution to how to correct these issues, Mr. Smelcer just walked off the job stating "he did the best he could do". Because of the Smelcer's family long standing ties to the community, I could find no local contractor who would help me correct the mess Landon Smelcer created. I had to go all the way to Knoxville to find a contractor willing to help me. I was forced to file a complaint with TN's Contractor Regulatory Board in order to have a Neutral third party (State hired Engineer) inspect the condition of Landon Smelcer's work and file a report SOMEBODY would believe. Finally, April 2013, the TN Department of Commerce and Insurance Regulatory Board took Disciplinary Action against Landon Smelcer relating to the work he did on my home. Respondent: Landon Smelcer Construction, Pigeon Forge, TN Violation: Poor Workmanship Action: $1,000 Civil Penalty Even though the State Regulatory Board ruled in my favor, Landon Smelcer has YET to step forward and take financial responsibility for his actions. I had to have my $15,000, Landon Smelcer installed, roof redone. Costs for this one repair is over $10,000 as the majority of the roof had to be patched to stop the leaks. The costs to fix the mess Landon Smelcer made is staggering. I was forced to pick and choose which problems had to be addressed. To date, my kitchen consists of the old stove sitting in the middle of the floor, all by itself. The kitchen sink is being held up by a cabinet on each end. Because of Landon Smelcer, I have to make do. Landon Smelcer, on the other hand, walks with his head held high with absolutely no regard for what he did to my construction project and the financial nightmare he caused. As a senior citizen on a fixed income, I simply no longer have the money to fix all the problems Landon Smelcer created. Mr. Smelcer should be made to reimburse me. at least, the money I had to pay to fix his work. If he were as honest a Christian as he and his father claim, Landon Smelcer would make this right with me. Instead, I've heard nothing from him.
