We are really pleased with Keith Powell! Last Friday, 95F heat, the capacitor went out on our home's HVAC. The folks who sold it to us (not Keith Powell) wanted to charge an after hours visit or have us wait until Monday. Keith Powell's technician came out and diagnosed it and repaired it, right after lunch! Although they didn't exactly have the right part, they were able to make it work and will come back in a few days to fix it. And they submitted the warranty paperwork for us. At our rental house earlier this year, Keith Powell replaced the full HVAC system. Their pricing was competitive. They came the day we needed them to diagnose the problem, not several days later. The team was courteous and competent and completed the job well. We've done business with at least 5 different contractors over the last decade or so. For literally the first time, we are satisfied with Keith Powell.

NEVER use Keith Powell's company Ron at A&L Heating and Cooling was GREAT. *** "Keith Powell Heating and Cooling" was TERRIBLE. Their technician who came out was so bad. His diagnosis was completely wrong, and obviously so. He said multiple false, incompetent things about our pipes and the law about what he could do. 1.) As soon as he left, I could see there was no way the water was coming from where he said it was. He said it was a nut on the copper pipe. There was no water around that area. The water was pouring from elsewhere. 2.) He said we needed to call a plumber, because he couldn't tighten the pipe himself! But I tightened it myself in minutes. (Of course it didn't solve the problem, since his diagnosis was obviously wrong.) 3.) He told me explicitly that the white pipes were fine. But the white pipes were completely blocked up, right in the closet! The white pipes being blocked caused the leak. 4.) Both where the water was, and when it leaked, was completely inconsistent with his "diagnosis". 5.) He recommended an expensive clean, that would not have solved the problem. (In fact, the other technician said it would have caused damage.) 6.) A different HVAC person (Ron at A&L Heating and Cooling) came one week later and fixed it promptly. 7.) Powell would not give me a refund for the visit even though: (a) the technician's diagnosis was *obviously* wrong and incompetent. (b) He left us *worse* off, since he told us we needed to bring out a plumber, which we would have paid for. But it wouldn't have solved the problem. (c.) someone else fixed it immediately. (Keith Powell did eventually offer a partial refund, but less than half the price of the terrible visit.)
Response from Keith Powell Heating & Cooling
"This review is the direct result of a threat made to Keith Powell Heating and Cooling to either refund the service visit of $89 within the next 30 minutes or else the company would be slandered. We stand behind our work and our employee and do not feel that this situation has been explained properly. We trust that the rest of our customers and future customers will know which reviews may be truth versus slander! Our technician arrived on 7/7/20 with the problem described as 'unit was leaking-turned unit off'. Upon arrival, the technician found no filter had been installed for a lengthy period. Because of no filter, the technician found the coil extremely dirty with large junks of dirt on the coil. The technician explained that it is customary for the unit to produce water, but with no filter and the coil having the large junks of dirt, the water would have no place to go but to roll off the dirt onto the water heater below. The technician's suggestion was to clean the indoor coil. To do that properly, he would need to pull out the coil due to limited space between the coil and water heater. The technician estimated a price to pull the coil, clean it, and add freon, if needed. The customer then noted that she did not have access to water for the cleaning of the coil. At that point, the technician stated he would have to take the coil offsite to clean and then return to reinstall. The technician also stated to the customer that much of the water leaking was coming from the water heater and showed her the supply line pipe where the leak was occurring. Keith Powell Heating and Cooling offers free estimates for replacement of units but, unfortunately, our company would not be able to sustain giving free estimates for repairs. Keith Powell Heating and Cooling gladly works with our customers when issues may arise and takes pride in standing behind our work but will not tolerate being threatened...it leaves no option for resolution."

For about 7 or 8 years, we had been struggling with our old central air conditioning unit. It had many problems and was extremely inefficient, and it seemed every time the power would go out (and the power goes out a LOT here) it would stop working and we'd need a service call. We have a home warranty, but were very frustrated because the home warranty company would practically stand on its head in order to avoid replacing the AC unit, which is what we felt was necessary. So two or three times a summer, the AC would go out (usually during the hottest stretches of course) and we'd have to wait for the home warranty company to assign our service call and then we'd be in line waiting for one of the local HVAC companies to schedule us for a service call and come and figure out what was needed. Because of the time of year and the way our home warranty company handles repairs, we were often waiting a week or longer for repairs to be finished. Then in August 2017, the compressor blew and we needed a new one, plus a whole bunch of freon. Keith Powell Heating and Cooling came out, and the guys were so helpful and honest with us that we vowed we'd call them directly when it came time to replace our system. They were so efficient at making the repairs we needed, and educating us about the overall problems with our system, and they got us patched up well enough to limp through the rest of the summer of 2017 and then part of the summer this year. Then, on June 20, my husband and I awoke at 0511 hrs because we were too HOT. Uh oh, the AC was starting its tricks already on the second full day of summer. Fed up with working through the home warranty company, we decided to just go ahead and buy a new system out of pocket, so we called Keith Powell Heating and Cooling directly. The receptionist hooked us up with Michael Paul, who came out immediately, and wrote up replacing our AC AND furnace with new, more efficient models, and even indulged our wish to relocate the AC unit to the side of the house instead of underneath our deck right alongside our dryer vent. And in the confusion, I had neglected to schedule a service call with a technician for our current problem--but before he left, Mike was able to replace the faulty capacitor which had stopped our AC unit to begin with. We wouldn't have to suffer without air conditioning while we waited a week for our new equipment to be installed. We were very pleased to have air conditioning again and to be on the schedule for the following week to get our new stuff. But the next morning we were even happier, because Mike called to tell us there had been a cancellation and to ask if we wanted our AC to be installed THE NEXT MORNING. So instead of waiting more than a week for an unsatisfying patch job that the home warranty would have (grudgingly) paid for, we received our new AC and furnace TWO DAYS later. Doug came out and worked hard to install everything perfectly and address all our questions, and we're so grateful for his expertise and the overall PROMPT attention from Keith Powell Heating and Cooling. It's a given that not everyone will have such a flawless experience, and this probably wasn't the cheapest company to hire, but we believe that you get what you pay for, and we absolutely got our money's worth. Comparing our brand-new Lennox AC and the old, inefficient one is even more a contrast than night and day, and we really enjoy the improved air quality and airflow in our home. I almost can't wait for cold weather to see how much more efficient the new furnace is! This sort of purchase is like paying for repairs to your car--it's costly, you don't want to do it, and it's definitely not as much fun as buying furniture or other home goods to enjoy, but knowing we have a dependable, brand-new system which is performing better than the old one and saving us money is worthwhile. Thank you guys!

Response from Keith Powell Heating & Cooling
"Mr. and Mrs. (Member name), I apologize that you were not completely satisfied with our service. After reviewing your invoice and speaking to the 2 technicians that were on site 2/23/16, I would like to explain their findings. The technicians that were onsite 2/23/16 initially thought the problem was a freon issue. Because of this, they needed to get approval from you to recover and dispose of freon and then to vacuum and recharge the system. This is American Home Shield's policy since they only pay $10/lb and the customer is responsible for the remainder of the cost. After further troubleshooting, they realized the issue was not freon related and that your repair would be totally covered and you would not be responsible for any out-of-pocket charges. I do not show that you paid anything other than your warranty service fee of $75.00. The transformer and relay were covered thru your warranty company with no further charges to you. The repair was replacing a transformer and defrost relay. We strive for complete customer satisfaction and always appreciate a phone call if you are ever dissatisfied with our service. We hope we can meet your expectations in the future."

Keith Powell sent someone out, and they went into our crawl space. When they came out, they said there was some damage due to rodents. We eventually had 2 other companies come out and verify that there was no rodent damage, and Keith Powell most likely damaged the duct system themselves. They erroneously reported this problem so that it would nullify our home warranty and the home warranty company would not be able to cover the repair. At this point, they were trying very hard to up-sell us to get an entire new system in addition to the one that is already there. When we contacted them to help fix the duct system, they said they don't do duct work. However, when our home warranty company looked into it, their company does in fact do duct work.

"Mr. (Member name), I apologize that you were not completely satisfied with our service on 9/22/15 and gave us an 'F' rating. We strive for complete customer satisfaction especially since we are a family owned business and depend on customer reviews to grow our business. After pulling your invoice and speaking with the technician, I would like to explain the findings. The technician initially went under the crawlspace, along with you (Mr. (Member name)), and while you were both under the crawlspace, the technician discovered the duct work laying in a puddle of water. After further examination, the technician discovered the duct work had been chewed thru and the water it was laying in was caused by cool air conditioning air mixed with hot, humid crawlspace air. The most important fact to remember was the discovery of rat droppings where the duct work had been chewed thru. After showing you, Mr. (Member name), the rat droppings with a flashlight provided by the technician, you both crawled out of the crawlspace. The technician distinctly remembers this because he then asked permission to use your kitchen sink to wash his hands, which you granted. After speaking with you for several minutes in the kitchen regarding your duct work issue, you stated you were not happy with the functionality of the zone system and how cold the upstairs area was and asked how expensive it would be to add a separate system for the upstairs only. This is the only reason a salesman contacted you. Otherwise, the technician would have just quoted a price for the duct work repair, since your home warranty company denied your claim due to rodent damage. Keith Powell Heating and Cooling is an honest, family owned business that works very hard to satisfy our customers needs and would never practice the things you have accused. I do apologize that this repair was not covered under your home warranty policy, but since we are an honest company we have a moral obligation to you, our customer, as well as the warranty company we represent, to state the truth and from that, your claim was denied."

To be completely honest, my first review was not going to be that glowing. That has changed. Collin came out to our house to diagnose a problem with our AC unit. After spending time working, he said the job was complete and he felt things were fixed. When the problem arose again a couple hours later, he spent several phone calls with me trying to troubleshoot the problem. Keith and Collin then spent another couple hours digging deeper the next day trying to find the root of the problem. Both were very professional and had a genuine concern for making sure my wife and I were happy. Even after a conversation on the phone when I was not in a happy mood. I would not hesitate to call them again if a problem arose or recommend them to anyone I know.

Some minor component in the gas heating system failed (don't recall which one - delayed too long writing the review).  Part was procured, replaced.  All complete in two visits.
