Their prices may be a bit high, but not *that* much more than anywhere else. Their office is a bit of a drive for me, and there are many other vets that are much closer, but I have been so pleased with Dr. Graves that I will continue to make the drive.
Dr. Graves is very caring, VERY smart, and has a wonderful bedside manner with people and dogs. My boys love him. He's a highly skilled surgeon as well. He takes a great deal of time and care answering questions. Believe me, I have had many, many questions over the years, and this man has the patience of a saint! :)
I initially chose this practice because the front desk staff was very competent at answering questions - I was so impressed with that first call I made an appointment.
I could go on and on about the many times Dr. Graves has gone above and beyond to help us. One of my dogs has had several fairly major issues, and I have been so grateful to have Dr. Graves to lean on during those times.
A couple of stories that I think illustrate the level of caring:
When one of my dogs was about nine months old, he had a blockage. We had taken him to an emergency clinic the night before and they didn't diagnose it, but he continued to worsen the following day. By the time I got him in to see Dr. Graves it was 4:00 on Friday afternoon. Dr. Graves found the blockage, confirmed with another vet in the practice and by x-ray. I was very upset and worried. Dr. Graves stayed late that night to perform the surgery, but not only that - the other vet stayed as well to be moral support for me while I waited. Above and beyond.
Another time I had one of the boys in for something routine. We were waiting to see Dr. Graves when a man rushed in, breathless and agitated, holding a bloody towel around a small poodle. He burst in the door and exclaimed, "She's just been attacked!" You could feel the energy level in the room go up exponentially. Every employee snapped to attention. The poodle was whisked away immediately. No "Fill out this form, who are you, wait your turn," etc. Bam - they were taken care of, pronto. If only human emergency rooms were so responsive. I thought at the time, "THAT is exactly how I want to be treated if I come in with a dire emergency."
The same dog of mine who had the blockage has also had two torn ligaments (and TPLO surgeries, both performed by ortho specialists not in the MRAH office). The first surgery did not go so well - it took an inordinately long time for the bone to heal. Dr. Graves was a rock during this time. He called and talked to me multiple times, consulting with a specialist at UT on our behalf. He was so determined to try to help us in any way he could.
