I've been a client at Murphy Road Animal Hospital for nine years. My two dogs see Dr. Bruce Graves.
Their prices may be a bit high, but not *that* much more than anywhere else. Their office is a bit of a drive for me, and there are many other vets that are much closer, but I have been so pleased with Dr. Graves that I will continue to make the drive.
Dr. Graves is very caring, VERY smart, and has a wonderful bedside manner with people and dogs. My boys love him. He's a highly skilled surgeon as well. He takes a great deal of time and care answering questions. Believe me, I have had many, many questions over the years, and this man has the patience of a saint! :)
I initially chose this practice because the front desk staff was very competent at answering questions - I was so impressed with that first call I made an appointment.
I could go on and on about the many times Dr. Graves has gone above and beyond to help us. One of my dogs has had several fairly major issues, and I have been so grateful to have Dr. Graves to lean on during those times.
A couple of stories that I think illustrate the level of caring:
When one of my dogs was about nine months old, he had a blockage. We had taken him to an emergency clinic the night before and they didn't diagnose it, but he continued to worsen the following day. By the time I got him in to see Dr. Graves it was 4:00 on Friday afternoon. Dr. Graves found the blockage, confirmed with another vet in the practice and by x-ray. I was very upset and worried. Dr. Graves stayed late that night to perform the surgery, but not only that - the other vet stayed as well to be moral support for me while I waited. Above and beyond.
Another time I had one of the boys in for something routine. We were waiting to see Dr. Graves when a man rushed in, breathless and agitated, holding a bloody towel around a small poodle. He burst in the door and exclaimed, "She's just been attacked!" You could feel the energy level in the room go up exponentially. Every employee snapped to attention. The poodle was whisked away immediately. No "Fill out this form, who are you, wait your turn," etc. Bam - they were taken care of, pronto. If only human emergency rooms were so responsive. I thought at the time, "THAT is exactly how I want to be treated if I come in with a dire emergency."
The same dog of mine who had the blockage has also had two torn ligaments (and TPLO surgeries, both performed by ortho specialists not in the MRAH office). The first surgery did not go so well - it took an inordinately long time for the bone to heal. Dr. Graves was a rock during this time. He called and talked to me multiple times, consulting with a specialist at UT on our behalf. He was so determined to try to help us in any way he could.

It's extremely variable, I guess annual shots and medical shots like heart worm and flee prevention that kind of stuff plus their exam is usually comes to $250 or so, they're a little on the pricy side. They are convenient, it's very close to where I live and they've had good reviews and I think that they do a good job. They do well with the animals.

I took my dog in for her annual vaccines. I was 5 minutes early for my appointment, but ended up waiting thirty minutes for my doctor to come and get us. She still wasn't finished with her prior appointment and since my dog had a slight allergic reaction to her vaccinations the last time, she asked that I leave her with them to monitor her reaction. It seemed a little over-the-top in comparison to how minor her last reaction had been, but I went with it to be safe. I left her there for the day and got a call before I was to pick her up telling me that she did not have a reaction but they had found a heart murmur. When I went in to speak with the vet, she explained to me that heart murmurs are judged on a scale of 1-4 and that hers was between a 2-3 in severity. Naturally this completely freaked me out that my 7 year old healthy dog had suddenly developed a moderate heart murmur. The doctor gave me an estimate on the types of tests she would recommend in order to make sure there wasn't a larger problem. The estimate ran between $700-$1100. I called my hometown vet to speak with him regarding this since these prices seemed insane. He told me while most of the tests may not be necessary, that it would be wise to schedule an EKG and some blood work. I set up my appointment for the EKG and blood work a few weeks later and was put with a different doctor. Apparently no one ever bothered to check my dog's history because when I went in, they began doing the tests stating that she was getting ready for a teeth cleaning...no mention of the murmur. I decided not to correct them that we were there to check out her murmur until they had completed the EKG. The EKG read perfectly normal...they remarked that it couldn't have gone much better. I then explained to them what I had been told on my previous visit and asked if they hadn't seen any signs of it and they seemed a bit stumped. There was no murmur but they told me sometimes a murmur can occur in a dog who was in distressed (i.e. a dog who has never been boarded left at the vet for vaccines by herself?). Her bloodwork came back perfect. She's in wonderful health, which I am very grateful for and I don't mind going the extra mile for her well-being, but it seems like the ball was dropped here. First, I would think a doctor might notice a dog is distressed instead of scaring the owner that the dog has a heart problem. Secondly, why did no one notice in her records that we were following up on the previous appointment? A teeth cleaning was never even mentioned in the original appointment. Their prices seem exorbitant. I feel as though the clinic tries to upsell unnecessary procedures to increase the bills...Needless to say, I'm in the market for a new vet.

They are exceptional. They got our dog in right away and they actually gave her the vaccines that she was due for while we were there. We couldn't have been happier and I think they absolutely attended to her needs. They were punctual, they were caring, and we will definitely go back.

They are amazing. They are very caring, friendly and patient. They love all of the animals that come through there. They are very gentle and treat the animals as if they were their own pets. The pets are really safe with them. The facility is very clean, and it does not smell like animals or anything. They are a little pricey. We would use them again in the future.

I found Murphy Road Animal Clinic on Angie's List, and not having any other pets, decided to go with Murphy Road because of their good reviews. I have since discovered that several people where I work also use Murphy Road. My new friend just walked into my home (end of July). After combing out the burrs in her fur, and giving her food, I decided that I couldn't give her up to anyone else, so the next step was to find a vet and the following Monday I called them, I was able to get into see Dr. Bolles on Tuesday. Everyone at the Clinic is very kind - just lovely people and very supportive of a nervous new pet parent. Dr. Bolles called me one evening at home, after the blood tests results came in. I was heartened by his caring enough to call me at home after hours. My little kitty is in good hands at Murphy Road and I'm very grateful that I was able to find them through Angie's List. I'm looking forward to 18 years of happy pet parenting and will continue to visit Murphy Road; I think their care is superlative to any other vet I've ever encountered.

My two girls regularly see Dr. Bell. Both are little rescues and very timid, Dr. Bell takes them out of my arms and kisses them on the head and talks to them and calms them, treating them as if they were there just to play and visit. This man is truly in his calling. The staff love what they do and it shows. They go out of their way for their patients and their patients "Mom's & Dad's". Both of my girls had very extensive health problems when they first joined my family. With the care and love from Dr. Bell and Murphy Rd. they are healthy, happy, and running my house like they own it. I rely on this clinic and am grateful to have them.

I take my two dogs (both mixed breeds) for all of their vet needs. The staff are extremely friendly and they are very understanding about your pets behaviors (I have one dog that barks the whole time he's there, and they accommodated me by letting me wait in one of the exam rooms instead of the waiting area). The doctors are all professional and very caring. I never feel uncomfortable with them handling my dogs (and my dogs are my babies). They always give me suggestions, and have found a few problems that I would have never known to look for. Of course, they prescribed the proper course of action, and the dogs are as healthy as can be. The reminder postcards they send are a great way to keep up with annual care needs. With two dogs, it can get a little pricey, but they are less than the vets I had in the Northeast, so I am extremely happy with the service and value.

We love this vet. Just over a year ago, I moved to Nashville from a small rural town in VA. We had had the same vet for twelve years who knew us like we were family. Shortly after moving, my eldest dog, at 15 years, needed to be put to sleep. From the first time I called to find out if they could see us that day, they were very helpful and understood what I was going through in making that decision. Not only did they see us right away, they treated us as if they had known us for years. I was most impressed when the vet who treated us actually took the time to write his own personal note in the condolence card that they sent. I found a place that treats us like we're at home. They love our other dog, and for that, the price is immeasurable. We will only take our pets to Murphy Road.

Quick story: a few years ago we thought we might change to the cats only vet in Nashville because we thought it would be less stressful for them with no dogs in the waiting room. We made an appt and drove across town to get there. On the drive, because it was so far, one of our cats went to the bathroom in his carrier and got it all over himself, in his fur-it was nasty. We went in the cats only vet before our appt. and told the receptionist what happened and asked if we could somehow clean him up and she handed us one tiny little paper towel and went back to her phone call. We cancelled our appt and left. On the way home we stopped at Murphy Rd. with no appt and they took one look at him and took him in the back where a vet tech cleaned him off and cleaned out his carrier, free of charge-with no attitude like the other place. Ever since then we said we would never change vets. We love them.

The clinic is very good. They are very caring with the animals and they also have a great service that if you find a medicine on line cheaper then they match your price. They are a bit overpriced anyway. Sometimes when you come in, you have to wait a while but everything else is great about them.
