First off Filipe was suppose to show up on Tuesday to look at the job after we made an appointment by phone earlier. No call/No show (which should have tipped me off). When I called him he apoligized and said he forgot to write it down. He did show up on Thursday morning at the appointed time. I showed him the punch list and we viewed each item. I asked how much and he said $450 or $500 at the most. He and a helper stayed for about an hour and repaired a drywall issue in the garage (I supplied the drywall)and they left the plaster to dry, he asked for $150 for the work he had preformed and I gave it to him in cash. They came back on Saturday morning at the appointed time to finish the job. They sanded the dry wall from the previous appointment and caulked the crown molding and put a patch on the dry wall in the master bath. He said he had another appointment but would come back to finish the following Tuesday. He asked for the rest of the money. He said I owed him $550 that he had written down. I said no I thought it was only $500 for everything and he said no that was just for one job. I gave him $500 and said "okay this is for everything else including the regrouting of the shower" and he replied yes. Tuesday afternoon I got a text asking if we had agreed on price for grout. I text back that we had agreed on the amount of the whole job including the grouting. He responding that grouting was not included. I balked and he texted back that he would come out if I would pay for his gas. I text back and told him that it was unfair to ask me to pay for anything more since he wold be coming out anyway to finish the work he had already started and mentioned I always review companies I do business with. He said I was threatening but he would be out as promised. He texted this morning saying he would not be out due to weather (the roads were bad). We made another appointment but he put this in his text "Well I guess it's a good thing that I don't advertise on Agnie's list. I only advertise on Craiglist". I texted back that with that kind of attitude I did not want him coming back.
If you use him get it in writing the scope of the work and the price and get him to sign it. He seems to have short term memory loss when it comes to price and services contracted.
