One of their staff was reliable and he came out to evaluate the trees for trimming and sent the subcontractors out for that part of the project. As the summer went on and I was trying to decide what to do about our project, he reached out to me for a meeting, and that's when I learned that there had been a big change in leadership and staffing. He was much more prompt and responsive in communication, so I was willing to give them another chance. He provided me with a new plan for our yard and we discussed the next steps. As it was summer, though, we were waiting until the weather cooled off to do any more planting.
Unfortunately, by the time it got to be October, and time to do more planting, Marshall, the reliable person, was gone. When I reached out again, I received the same kind of communication as before--slow responses to emails--promises to follow through which didn't happen. I have learned from previous experience and have hired someone else. Grassy Roots may have been a good provider in the past, but certainly not in my experience.
The project dragged, but weather played a role in much of that, and our job was relatively small compared with the company's other responsibilities. Any threat of rain meant that no work would be done that day.
Apparently, Rice sold his interest in the company, and new management took over. I won't belabor the details, but that's when phone calls were not returned, appointment times to detail what remained to complete were not kept, and, ultimately, our job was never finished. Many plants and flowers were never placed. Soaker hoses did not work properly, and several plants died. These were supposed to be replaced if they died within one year of planting, but, of course that never happened. Ultimately, the representatives for Grassy Roots simply ignored my calls for resolution for all these outstanding issues. We are left within an unfinished yard that is little improved $40,000.00 later. We will always regret that Grassy Root's reviews on Angie's List were so favorable.
our property line, but they maintained contact and kept us up to date on
the progress while the main job was in progress. However, they told us
the job was finished and invoiced us for the final payment despite
several plants being missing. They did tell us that they would install
the plants once they got them in. However, I have had to continually
call and email them to find out what was happening with the installation
of the missing plant material. I have had them tell me a few times
that they would install the plants as they come in, but they have yet to
install the original plants they promised or replace the plants that
their guarantee promised to replace. We were also hoping to work with
them to solve a drainage problem that didn't get resolved with the
original design, but since they are not responsive to installing the
plants we have already paid for, we do not want to pay them to do any
more work. They started out being very responsive and professional,
however, they took our money and have not finished the work. Our yard
looks much better, but almost 8 months after paying for it, it is still
incomplete.
"This was a brief period of management transition in which communication was lacking. However, I corrected the issue with the customer in a one on one meeting. I explained to her that we could not replace any plant material that perished due to acts of nature or failure to properly maintain. I was asked to provide an estimate for additional work. I did so and after the initial contact, I never heard back from the customer."
"It's great to hear when customers are happy with their services! Thank you for the kind words!"
"We put our hearts into all of our work! When we know somethings wrong, we work to get things corrected immediately! Thank you for letting us know!"
"We are happy to help! Thank you for the kind words!"
"We are grateful to receive nice words about our work. The plan we created for this customer was amazing! It included a custom pergola made from Western Red Cedar and built on custom stone pillars which are stunning! There was a new patio with a custom sitting wall and a custom fire pit. There are new planting beds in both the front and back yards, and lots of new plant material. Planting beds were all upgraded with loads of great mushroom compost to make future fertilizing unnecessary and to ensure the long-term health and beauty of the plants. The yard and all beds and plant material are protected with a new irrigation system. Truly, this is a plan for a memorable yard and landscape! Preliminary plans are designed to allow a client to imagine everything they might want for their yard and landscape. In a normal situation, a client would take the preliminary plan and then make changes to fit their budget and desires. A final plan is then produced that represents exactly what a customer wants within their budget. We complete our work in accordance with the final plan. Considering the preliminary plan for this client, there are numerous ways to minimize cost. For example, using wooden posts versus custom pillars on the pergola saves plenty of money; eliminating compost from the beds saves money; modifying the patio/fire pit/and sitting wall saves money. There is always a way to achieve what someone wants while maintaining quality in a way that ensures the long-term viability of a landscape investment."
