1. Tilework in shower/bath surround: misaligned, broken, crooked, sloppy grout.
2. They "leveled" the floor, but it has slipped a full .one inch along one wall. The support under the beam in the basement is barely wedged under the beam, no support, not perpendicular. The bathtub surround has a 1/4 inch gap now, and the cabinet and door are now askew.
3. They left half the demolition debris under the house in the crawlspace. My husband crawled under the house to see why the floor was slipping and discovered the trash and debris. The other half of the debris was piled on our front porch for the entire week and damaged our porch railings, door, and concrete floor.
4. Wainscoting looks to be industrial grade with splinters, bad routing, etc. It must have been in the reject beadboard pile at the discount supply store.
5. They moved the only air register into the corner of the room, then put trim over it. We cannot access the floor register without pulling up the trim, which we had to do one time. Now the trim is damaged because it was the only way we could get to the register.
6. The cap trim along the beadboard was cut so poorly it swoops in and out at one corner. It looks ridiculous. That someone cut it and actually installed it, and yet another person painted it, thinking that it was okay to have that type of workmanship is just horrible craftsmanship.
7. Several nailheads have popped out of the wall.
8. The shower head pipe was full of drywall mud and I had to clean it out. The mud ruined the showerhead, which was part of an expensive set.
9. Someone damaged the tub spout with a wrench. I demanded that it be replaced, and there were some ugly words around that topic because Raphael wanted to replace it with a generic piece, when I had purchased an expensive set for the tub. Eventually he replaced it with exactly what I had bought.
There are other details, but this is the bulk of it. On the day they began tiling, a young man was here when I stopped by at dinner time. He asked me if he could just stay up all night here at the house so he could finish the tiling. I said yes. When I returned in the morning, the tilework was 40% finished, and the trim work was horrible. He had run the black trim tile around the entire tub like a frame. Awful. But because the rest of the tile wasn't finished, I called Raphael and said, "This isn't what we discussed, please have this removed." He said that man had never done tilework and had begged to do it. But he couldn't get it finished. When I returned that afternoon, the tile was completed, but the tile around the window was tilted down toward the window instead of tilted out to drain. I had them come back three times to fix the tile around the window. Also, they did not create an inset shelf I had asked for specifically and was in the contract. The man who came by to collect the final payment gave me a $100 discount because they didn't do the shelf. This is the $100 that Raphael tried to collect from me by bullying and harassing me via telephone. My attorney friend wrote a warning letter, and the calls stopped.
Overall, this was a nightmare experience. If I had not been close to having a baby, I would have sued as so many defects became clear. It was an enormously expensive and painful lesson.
