Have used BKA before for roofing and they were superb. Their company has completely gone down hill.
We have used BKA in the past and have been very pleased. Due to the warranty on the roof, and their association with insurance, we used them again. It was a nightmare. After arranging my work schedule for them to come, they did not come the whole day to repair and paint. I have no idea about the cause of the issue, but I did hear how busy they were. After rescheduling a week later, and taking MORE time off, they were to come at 8. I received a call they were coming later. When they showed up, the could not even do half of the work. We had to reschedule another day, and there were stains and dark spots on the interior water damage. There was paint water splashed on our carpet in two rooms, and they used a statin and a flat on the same door in two different areas. It was ridiculous!! I will give them this, they were responsive this time to my complaint and offered a different "team" to come and fix what the other team had done. The second team did a nice job. When I was ready to pay, and complete the nightmare, the "project manager" was not available. He never came to see the final outcome of the total project. An office manager in the area came by and picked up the check.
One of the worst transactions I have ever had. Plus missing vacation days with "NO SHOWs."
Initially I was very impressed with BKA. Within an hour of contacting my insurance company concerning the damage BKA had a water mitigation crew at my house. The technicians were professional and efficient. They removed approximately 10 square feet of hardwood floor, some installation from the crawl space and dehumidified the space under the cabinets.
Water mitigation was complete within 72 hours and that is where my problems began.
BKA assigned a project manager to ensure a smooth restoration. I met with the project manager during the first week of December. We discussed the repairs and the time it would take to make those repairs. He assured me then that they would be finished no later than 24 December. He referred me to a wholesale floor company to select the tile that we wanted installed. This was complete Friday 13 December.
There was no movement on my repair even though I contacted my project manager several times. Finally all was set to begin Monday 6 Jan at 9:00 am. I called and texted my project manager several times that morning to ensure that the workers would actually show. I texted him at 8:35 and his reply at 8:55 was "they should be there any minute". At 1:30 when no one showed up he finally answered his cell phone and said "well I guess they are not coming today".
The tile was never ordered and the job that should have take two weeks has taken two months.
The only good that has come from this is the sub-sub-contractor that BKA hired is amazing. Donne, owner and operator of Gateway Restoration, is great. He has gone far above and beyond the scope of work to ensure that I did not fire BKA last week. I would never hire BKA but I plan on hiring Gateway Restoration for several home improvement projects that I have planned later in the year.
"PLEASE LOOK AT ALL THE OTHER REVIEWS OF MY COMPANY WHEN CONSIDERING THIS PARTICULAR REPORT. OUR SERVICES ON THIS LOSS CONSISTED ONLY OF MITIGATION WORK TO REMOVE WATER SOAKED MATERIALS IN AFFECTED ROOMS AND TO SET DRYING EQUIPMENT IN PLACE. THE HOMEOWNER SIGNED AN AUTHORIZATION FOR THIS WORK PRIOR TO ANYTHING BEING DONE WITH THE CLEAR AND WRITTEN UNDERSTANDING THAT WE WERE WORKING FOR HER AND NO ONE ELSE. PRICING IS SET BY THE INSURANCE PROVIDER, NOT BY OUR COMPANY AND WE WERE PAID THE INDUSTRY STANDARD FOR SERVICES RENDERED. THE HOMEOWNER MAKES NUMEROUS FALSE STATEMENTS IN HER REPORT. WE RESPONDED IMMEDIATELY UPON BEING CALLED AND WORK WAS UNDERWAY AT THE MOMENT THE AUTHORIZATION WAS SIGNED BY THE CUSTOMER. THE CONTINUOUS REFERENCES TO "NOT COMMUNICATING" AND "NOT SOLVING HER PROBLEM" REFLECT HER INSISTENCE THAT WE TEAR OUT UNDAMAGED FINISHES IN HER HOUSE PRIOR TO THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO AN INSPECTION. THE CUSTOMER WANTED THESE MATERIALS REMOVED SO THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THEM EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT DAMAGED. BASICALLY WE WERE ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN INSURANCE FRAUD AND REFUSED. WHEN THE CUSTOMER THEN DID NOT GET EVERYTHING SHE WANTED, IT WAS HER INTENT TO DO AS MUCH HARM TO EVERYONE INVOLVED AS POSSIBLE. SHE IS CORRECT THAT WE "DID NOT LISTEN" TO DEMANDS THAT WE BE CROOKED. WE DON'T DO BUSINESS THAT WAY."
