It was such a a pleasure to have Arlene's guidance and ingenuity to help me overhaul my apartment. My lack of enjoyment in my domain was holding me back and now I feel much better. I am about to put my NYC apartment on the market and it was sorely in need of a refresh. I had to replace my floor due to water damage and I needed help with what to choose. I needed paint colors for the walls and kitchen cabinets. Arlene not only helped me with all of this -- she did it remotely. I sent her photos and she set up a Pinterest board with her recommendations: rugs, curtains, tile -- all wonderful as well as economical. I sent her links to floors and cabinet hardware and she reviewed them and responded promptly. Everything that had been challenging for me Arlene turned into a fun project. And did I mention that Arlene is a joy to work with? She is always positive and willing to do that little bit extra to be sure everything is just right. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

I am so glad that I chose Arlene for my project. Arlene is a fantastic designer and made my house look much more extensive. I now own a small home and need help to make it look as large as possible. Was nice to work with. However, I created a Pinterest board and sent her photos of the spaces beforehand and when we met it seemed like she did not look at it. She is very sweet and helpful. Just do not feel like we were a fit, which is fine. In our 2-hour consultation, we spent over 45 mins in one room and did not really speak much in two of my rooms which was a little disappointing. Overall I believe she is good for other people and just a very sweet woman. Just not who I am looking for sadly.

"Ms. Day B, thank you, it was nice meeting you, as well. I did look over your pins before our meeting and before I arrived was thoroughly acquainted with your ultra-colorful, thinking way out of the box design sense, which we discussed. I told you I was excited to work with you since my training is in theater design and I am an artist as well as a designer and thought your project would be fun. We did spend a good deal of our 2-hour consultation in your kitchen since the renovation of it was the most costly and complicated part of your project. I did several layout sketches and gave you lots of practical tips and advice as well as creative suggestions. I did the same for your bathroom, offering advice based on my years of experience making suggestions that would be practical and beautiful. When we went into the 2 remaining rooms, I did ask you questions to try to understand what you wanted help with and how you envisioned using the rooms and did offer ideas, one of which you seemed to love ( the added piece I described for over the headboard), but it seemed like you had your own ideas and that you were not entirely open to hearing too many of mine for the two bedrooms. I did not know if you were overloaded at that point (which happens and I try to be sensitive to).I think I might have disappointed you with some of my more practical advice since it would have precluded a few of your more whimsical ideas that I felt would not be easy or comfortable for you to live with. I am very into both form and function and my clients appreciate my honesty. Yes, I agree that not all designers and clients are a good fit. I am sorry that we didn't connect creatively in the way that you were hoping for. That seldom happens in my work, since I love working in all different styles and go the extra mile to assess each client individual style to help them achieve a beautiful look that feels just right for them. I send you my best wishes and hope that you found someone to help make your dreams come true."

I could not have remodeled my kitchen with such wonderful results without Arlene. Her rich art background coupled with experience and knowledge about home remodeling made the experience enjoyable and satisfying. Throughout the process Arlene was conscious of budget, value and quality in all aspects. If I decide to make changes to another room of my house, my first call will be to Arlene!

I hired Arlene to help with a home renovation along with decorating ideas, paint colors, furniture placement. etc. Arlene has impeccable taste, great style, works well with a budget and was a joy to work with. She was very patient and especially great at bridging the difference in taste of my fiancée and I at the time. She was easily available and went above and beyond at all times. I think what makes Arlene special is her ability to work with the homeowners style so the home feels authentic to its owners. I live in Vancouver, Canada. I fell in love with Arlene s work when I was visiting a Nashville friend, whose home she d remodeled and decorated. When I returned to Vancouver, I contacted her to get some guidance on redoing our living room. My expectation was that this would be a one-time consultation, to better equip me to find the right local designer. When Arlene suggested we work together remotely, I was skeptical, but decided to take a chance. Through phone calls and emails, Arlene made this work; the living room project was so successful I ended up hiring her to design our kitchen renovation a few years later.. I was amazed at how she transformed my old, stale living room into a beautiful space on the small budget I had at the time. She saved the day and lots of money by freshly reupholstering my old family couch and side chair. Arlene suggested that I need not change the carpet or window treatments since they were neutral and still in good shape. Her ideas of repainting the fireplace surround a different color and, then, updating the varnished wood feature wall with a few coats of soft bluish green were spot on. With a few virtual visits to stores, we chose a coffee table and some colorful pillows and a throw. It, truly, did not look like the same room. The kitchen was a much more comprehensive project with a bigger budget, but I was determined not to enlarge the space by opening up walls, nor did I want to reconfigure the layout. Arlene respected these guidelines and sent me sketches and several plans which created more storage, better sight lines and a much better flow. Arlene was there for me through every step, consulting on cabinet styles, paint colors, countertops, backsplash tiles, hardware, flooring and lighting. There were many hundreds of decisions made, and I can not imagine how bewildering and painful this would have been without her patient, skilled guidance and sunny personality. My former cramped, dingy kitchen is now updated, bright and beautiful, with every space utilized to the max. Arlene might just have to consider moving to Vancouver, due to her growing fan club here!

She combines a genuine artistic talent with warmth, and works to present a selection of quality choices until she finds something her clients can get excited about, while being mindful of any budgetary restraints. We have used her services in redecorating our master bedroom and bathroom, placing artwork on walls and various keepsakes onto shelves throughout our home; selecting wall colors, and more. As we prepare to move into a new home, we are utilizing her talents to determine where to place furniture, select window coverings and for guidance as we purchase some additional furniture. We think we are going to love how the new home turns out as much as our master bedroom did, which is saying a lot. Arlene s rates are more reasonable than some other designers I have worked with, and I find her very easy to work with. I highly recommend her!

We finished a very large renovation/addition project last year that completely transformed our home. I was overwhelmed by the flood of decisions that had to be made, and in a timely fashion. The process of shopping, sampling, and ultimately choosing product was daunting. Arlene was a total lifesaver. Her advice was so sound and practical and her eye for color and texture amazing. She has the vision to see how a color or extra window or couch placement will impact the character of a space. She was an incredible resource every stage of the project including introducing me to her network of experts, explaining how to organize choices, pointing me to the best places to shop, and then helping me coordinate all the millions of details into a coherent design. And what a design she can envision. I love my new space in the way it flows and relaxes the eye. It is so comfortable and beautiful at the same time. I could never have achieved the elegance and beauty I now live in without Arlene.

Arlene is incredibly talented, upbeat and reliable. She transformed our Victorian home into a showplace, preserving the historical charm while incorporating modern conveniences in our renovated kitchen and bathrooms. She drew detailed floor plans and elevations and thumbnail sketches that helped us to envision the rooms and guided us through the myriad of choices that home renos require. She is a great communicator and she took care to always make sure that our needs and taste were reflected in the designs. We loved that she has a great eye for bargains and found all kinds of ways to save us money. Arlene is also an artist and added so many unique touches to our home. She painted a mural in our master bedroom, stenciled the powder room to look like wallpaper and did a custom painting for our foyer. She helped us to choose the perfect fixtures and furnishings for every room and used much of our old furniture and art in fresh, new ways that we would not have thought of. I strongly recommend Arlene to anyone with any kind of interior design project. She does it all and does it all well! We love our soulful, beautiful home.
