Received a recommendation from a friend. He was unemployed and doing handyman jobs. Gave us a quote: Deck: Labor and Material Charges $850.00 $ Remove and replace step plates, top plates, step rail plates, middle step run. Add top plate brace, two 4X4 posts in middle of steps set in concrete and four 4X4 brace post on steps. Deck Wash and Seal: $275.00 Pressure wash entire deck, rails and steps. Seal all wood. Front Porch: $160.00 Remove rails, clean brick, and mortar joints and replace mortar and re-lay bricks and re-attach railing. TOTAL BID AMOUNT $1,285.00 Completed the deck work and the mortar work. Had to call a couple of times to get the railing re-attached which was finally done. Insisted that he had to wait for new construction wood to cure before sealing. Multiple calls to get the job finished resulted in assurance that when the weather warmed up in the spring and he cold get a couple of dry days he would complete the job we had already paid him for. Found out he got a job at MTSU and now insists that he does not have the time to finish the job.
