They were wonderful, they were really good. He called me back quickly and then came the next day to look at it and had someone here the next morning putting it up. I was super happy. They were super quick.

Their men came and measured the existing window openings.  They ordered the replacement windows in the style I selected.  They were not their bottom line windows.  When the windows were delivered from the factory, their men came to our house and removed the old windows, clad the outside trim in metal and installed the new windows.  We immediately had a problem in that the one window that we wanted to use (open and close) would not stay open.  We raised it...it dropped back down.  There wasn't enough tension on what keeps it in balance.  We called and they came back within the week and adjusted it.  Now, there was too much tension.  When we closed it, it sprang back open unless we locked it.  It was an upstairs window that was not necessary to lock and locking was difficult for me because of the height of the window.  It was impossible for my wife to reach the lock, so she could not close the window at all without it springing back open.  We called Home Building Products again.  The owner came out, but could make no improvement in the situation.  He said that was the best he could do because the window frame was out of square.  I reminded him it was his men that measured the window and if it was out of square they should have caught it and made adjustments by ordering a slightly smaller window and using shims to fit it into the frame.

A second problem arose.  The upper sash started slipping down.  When the upper sash was not fully up, the window could not be locked.  And yet, the upper sash would not stay up.  It could not be pushed up from below because it was outside the lower sash.  The lower sash would have to be removed completely from the window frame to get a good grip on the upper sash to push it back in place.  Then the lower sash had to be reinstalled and pulled down and locked before the upper sash slipped down again.  The next time the window was opened the same problem arose.

This developed over a two-year period.  Finally, after three years of battling this problem, I called the Home Building Products again with the intention of getting some satisfaction on a warranty.  They would not return my calls.  I called many times.  I wrote a letter.  I went by their store...The owner was always out or unavailable.  I finally reached him and got a straight response that he "had done all he could do."   I contend it was not all he could do.  He could replace the malfunctioning window, this time with one that would fit in the window frame (which I think is as square as any other...it was not proven to be out of square, that was just his excuse).

In summary, I got poor installation or a poor quality product or both.  I got very no adjustment on a mal-functioning window and great difficulty in even communication with the owner of Home Building Products.

Home Building Products Inc. is the company that originally put in the screen patio, so I had experience with them before. I received the same quality work this time as when they originally put it in. I am always pleased with them.
