Superior Outdoor Solutions
About us
We began Superior Outdoor Solutions (SOS) because I am passionate about creating and working hard with nature. Horticulture has fascinated me as long as I can remember. From the time I could toddle, I spent most of my time outdoors. As I got older, my interest in landscaping grew into a passion. That passion has generated over 20 years experience. After many years of working on a ranch with horses and beautiful landscaping projects I completed, I knew I couldn't spend my time in an office. Wanting to get my hands dirty once again, SOS was started, specializing in creating beautiful landscapes for you. Further, we work closely with our clients. We offer suggestions and ideas to generate a plan to create beautiful outdoor living spaces. We are not the typical mow, blow and go landscaping / lawn service company. SOS provides a personal service to customers.

Each time we've needed help with a new batch of tasks, we called Colt. He always came to the house and looked at the
'can you fix it's?' and/or items to be installed. He'd leave ? do his 'homework' if he felt he needed to, then he'd e-mail us stating what supplies he would need to bring, and what his charges would be. When he arrived, always cheerful & smiling, on the day and @ the time he said he would, he had the supplies (with receipts for us) and equipment (his) that he needed to complete his work. He worked competently & efficiently, never leaving any mess or debris for me to clean up. Before leaving, he always showed me what he'd done to make his repairs & showed me how installations worked, etc. Everything Colt has done here looks great and works as expected. This means a great deal to me because I tend to be 'rather exacting' ? picky ? some would say :) about things being straight, level, on center etc. Colt Evans is a really nice fellow, but ? if he did a messy, sloppy job - or if his work was inadequate in any way, we would not have continued to hire him!
Here is a list of handyman tasks Colt has completed for us:
Electrical ? Colt inspected & addressed all of our electrical 'concerns'. Over the past few months he has installed two new ceiling fans; Installed two fluorescent ballasts and one new fluorescent fixture; Installed four outdoor porch lighting fixtures; and re-installed a dining area 'chandelier type' fixture that was ready to fall from the ceiling! Colt checked two bathroom vanity toe-kick heaters for safety and removed one heater that didn't work properly. There were at least four outlets that did not work anymore, including one GFCI safety outlet. He replaced these plugs and corrected the original installation issues that caused the outlets to fail... and finally, Colt replaced light bulbs all over the place ? all the ones in those hard-to-reach spots like the eaves of the house!
Plumbing ? Colt installed two new kitchen faucets, repaired a toilet that was 'running' continuously and installed a plumbing access door over a hole in the wall that wasn't covered when the house was first built!
Other repairs included removal of a large, broken ceramic floor tile & installation of the replacement tile; Colt fixed three or four kitchen drawers that had 'jumped' their tracks and tightened the drawer sliding mechanisms to help prevent recurrence.
'crew' come in and complete the rest of the work in one day. Disaster! The crew applied chinking in all the wrong places and wrong ways to one end of the house, while the company owner sprayed a semi-transparent stain on the front and other side of the house. Unfortunately, the stain was applied inconsistently - too thin here - too thick there - with lots of over spray - soffits/ window glass and multiple drips and runs. I had to fire them. I was in a state of despair when Colt Evans of Superior Outdoor Solutions, who had already been hired and scheduled, came a few days later to landscape the front of the house. Colt did a great job - I posted a review in the landscaping category. When he arrived, Colt - as had anybody else who would listen! - heard my tale of woe about the terrible work done on the house exterior and how I didn't know where to turn for help. When Colt finished the landscaping, he told me he had been thinking about the house exterior and had some ideas about rectifying the
damage done and completing the work. Colt thought he could help! I was impressed with his plan, so he met with my family & the estate executor. Colt spent several days researching the chinking process since he had not done this before. He submitted, & we accepted, detailed bids for each side of the house, since each side presented a different set of issues. Each side of the house was completed in succession, so we could have stopped the process if we weren't satisfied. However, this was not a problem! Colt did all of the chinking and repairs to siding. To expedite the process, & with our permission, Colt had a small crew of painters work on staining as he finished chinking and repairs. Colt himself was on site to coordinate and oversee their work. They were polite, professional painters and did a good, clean job.
Specific work done to correct the work of previous company included sanding the extremely rubbery, sanded chinking caulk off of log siding. Removal of chinking caulk in areas where it was applied very roughly, had humps and bumps, fingerprints, etc. Sanding of chinking caulk, along with stain over spray and drips, off of vent covers and guttering. Removal of blue tape the first group had applied to the services boxes on the house, sanding the 'goo' off, and repainting them.
Work done to complete house exterior included repair of weather damaged wood and chinking. Replacement of one side of a window frame that had deteriorated. Stabilization/repair of some wood in surrounding area. Some chinking was removed entirely and replaced, while other areas required only smoothing out or patching small cracks. Entire house
received two coats of solid color stain.
Looking at the house now, it is hard to recall how it looked before ? both after many years of neglect and after the botched work of initial company. All the chinking is neat and smooth. Siding smoothly and evenly stained. It looks and feels solid and protected again.
I didn't know Colt Evans before any of this ? but I am literally thankful and VERY glad to have found him. Colt has turned our nightmare project into a beautifully finished house. My family and I feel we now know someone we can call on for almost any kind of home improvement help. We've met someone that is responsible, very capable, reliable & most importantly ? trustworthy.
