They were very friendly. I know they were very responsive. One of the times that went out, it was in middle of August in Memphis which was really miserable. They came out as quickly, and it was you know, especially given the number of people. It was one of those weekends where everyone's A/C started going out and they managed to come out in a very timely manner to get something resolved. They've been very friendly, very good about, you know I've never felt like I was being told or sold goods or anything like that, it was very genuine.
"As soon as I read this first time customer's complaint, I called her immediately to listen to her concerns and to let her know we would refund the $79 diagnostic fee (in keeping with our 100% customer satisfaction guarantee). Our technician took photographs at the call to document his findings, so the customer and I were better able to discuss what happened. The technician arrived to find the outside fan running but the compressor off. The wires on the compressor were completely burnt. He replaced them and tried to start the unit. It would not start. He thought the compressor may have overheated, so he ran water over it to cool it down (which usually works if this is the problem, here - it did not). Thereafter, he added a compressor booster kit to attempt to engage the compressor. It did not respond. He used the appropriate meter to test it. The meter showed the compressor was bad. He attempted to perform all the proper repairs to engage the compressor and to cool it down, for over an hour, to no avail. Only then, did the technician condemn the compressor. However, the technician did not discuss all of his efforts to repair the unit with the customer. On the afternoon we performed the service call, it was almost 100 degrees. The customer told me that when she called for a second opinion, they only needed to connect the wires and it started. The only thing we can surmise is that the unit had cooled down sufficiently for the next technician to simply start the unit with the new wires we had already put on the unit and tried ourselves. The compressor must have gone off on internal overload due to the outdoor heat and become hotter still as the outdoor fan continued to run with the compressor off before we arrived. Although we made every effort to cool the compressor and to restart the unit, over an extended period of time, it did not respond to any effort we made or could have made at that time. We made a mistake in not better communicating with the customer about our efforts to repair the unit. Short of rescheduling the customer for another day for our return, there is nothing else we could have done at that time to make the unit operational. I personally appreciate that the Angie's List complaint brought to our attention a flaw in our communication style so we could learn from it and better communicate with our customers in the future in a similar situation. We refunded the customer's diagnostic fee of $79 and sent her some cookies to apologize for the mistake and to thank her for giving us the opportunity to improve our processes. Even after 40 years as a local family owned company, now in our second generation, we are always learning and striving to do better."
When Justin looked over the problem, he told me that I did not need to replace my a/c units as I thought I would have to. His honesty and integrity were very much appreciated.
P.S. It all started with their rep, Justin. The man knows service.
