I am a carpenter, I have rehabbed, I am a retired rental property maintenance technician. I am in awe at the high quality of the work that was done and the level of professionalism and honesty.
Every employee that I deal with at Paul Davis was the consummate professional. Starting with the phone calls to their office, any necessary follow up calls, timely arrival to complete the work and every aspect of their operation was above and beyond my expectations. When I purchased this house I replaced a florescent light fixture in the kitchen with an incandescent light fixture. The area around the florescent light fixture had to be painted and the paint was off by a couple of shades. The person from Paul Davis saw that this did not match and he painted that area for me at no additional cost and gave me extra paint in case I needed to touch up somewhere else later. Now you tell me how many contractors you know that would do that for you without you even asking!!! If I ever had a need for water damage repair in the future, only one call will be necessary and that will be to Paul Davis Restoration. You can’t go wrong dealing with these people.
I just wanted to say that I am not happy with the water restoration company that was sent this time. I had expected the cost to be similar to last years claim as the damage was not as extensive as the roof leak.
* The cost was never discussed before they setup equipment* As they left yesterday, I asked about the price and the technician said he expects upward of $500 but can't give us an exact amount until he puts it in the computer. We pointed out that last year we only paid $110 and were not expecting to pay so much more. His response was and quot;I don't know until I put things into the computer.and quot;.* Later that evening, we talked to the company about the cost difference again. He said it was roughly $25/day per fan leaving me with the impression that the $500 quoted by the technician was inaccurate and we would be roughly at $125 since we had four fans and the dehumidifier. * Today they came to check how things were and remove the equipment and completely surprised me with a bill that was close to $400. When asked why it was so high, I was told that it is $25/day for each fan again and a hundred something for the dehumidifier. I am assuming the rest is for labor since I have not been given a breakdown of the work and cost yet to be sure. I questioned the price to the technician again and he said that they did give us a break as the job would have normally have been at the $800 mark. It feels like we are being taken advantage of during an emergency situation by a company who tries to squeeze every penny they can, adding equipment while the homeowners are distracted by dealing with the installation (and costs) of a new water heater and never explaining what they do, why, and avoid providing any information about the actual costs until it is too late.
When I was agreeing to the company to come I was expecting:* That similar services come for a similar price, not nearly /four/ times as much.* Being told about the expected costs before anything was done. I probably should have been more on the ball with this but since they had insisted on coming at the same time as the plumber was working, we were distracted by dealing with that and the $1500 bill to fix the leak issue to begin with.* When they did actually talk about cost with me, I expected I was being told about the costs of all equipment and labor, not just the cheapest of the equipment that was left.
What I would not have expected is the company virtually dropping as much equipment into my bedroom as they can fit, use additional equipment without explaining its necessity, avoid direct questions about the costs and then charge us with four times the amount we told them we expected to pay. Because of this, I would highly recommend that USAA re-evaluate using this company and go back to the company that was used last year for these reasons.
