Came back the next morning and applied the second coat. Everything went smoothly with minimal dust and inconvenience.
The floors look absolutely beautiful. Truly professional company. Highly recommended.
Sanded, stained and then sealed, then came back to seal again. Wonderful. Except for the fact that their $609 price was for a parquet floor requiring in their words "extra" and "different machine". But the floor wasn't that. We told them to forget the parquet floor and cleaned it ourselves.
So, we paid "extra" according to their description of the job. They maintain that they always do the steps in the bid, so we did not pay anything extra.
Floor looks good, but we would not use them again unless we had much better description of what they were going to do and how much it would cost.
It was a good thing the people decided to delay moving or they would have been right in the middle of this job. They paid no attention to our time...if they were not going to be able to do it, why not just say so.
"Thank you for your feedback. The initial estimate was done on August 8th. We heard back from Mr. [removed member name] on Monday, August 25th requesting to move forward with the refinishing work as soon as possible as he had a potential renter for that property. They were trying to move in by Friday of that week. One of our crews was scheduled to finish up a job the following day. I told Mr. [removed member name] we could probably start Tuesday afternoon. That did not happen. We however, began the job the following morning, Wednesday, August 27th. We sanded the floors in one day and came back the following morning to apply the final coat of polyurethane. The floors would have been dry by Friday morning. While I did describe a refinishing process for parquet floors (my mistake thinking that all the floors were parquet in that house), we have a standard price for refinishing that amount of square footage, regardless of floor type. We charged Mr. [removed member name] the price that was presented on the bid. We apologize for any miscommunication regarding the description of our refinishing procedure in the bid. Although we were a half day behind in our schedule, the job was done in a timely way, and would have met the potential tenant's timeline if they would have decided to rent the property. At the time, Mr. [removed member name] was not in Memphis. His secretary was the contact person and can verify the timing. Mr. [removed member name] did in fact call us that week to tell us that his secretary said the floors looked great, so we are puzzled about the "C" rating on the floors themselves. Since Mr. [removed member name] lives out of town, I don't believe he has even seen the finished product. We strive as a company to meet the needs of our clients in every aspect of the job. Besides the miscue on the type of floor we were refinishing, we met all of our requirements to provide professional services on this job."
Work began a couple of days later, and the team was very efficient and professional. Original hardwoods were revealed, but an area towards the back of the kitchen was discovered to have been a single layer of pretty awful and decaying wood belonging to a formerly exterior deck. To make the whole kitchen level would have meant covering the original good hardwoods with a layer of new stuff, and things seemed to be heading in that direction until spoke with Bill and made a new plan to save the original wood and install a transition piece to the old deck area and re-floor it. This plan was agreed up very quickly.
The team also installed a transition between the old oak and pine boards that separated what had been the butler's pantry (said Bill) and the kitchen proper. The floors were then stained to best match the wood in the other rooms of the house.
The new-old (or old-new?) floors look excellent and we're extremely happy with them--the kitchen looks great. They did wonderful work.
