He was responsive in the begining and in giving a verbal quote. He did not record exact measurements initially and when we ran in to him in the tile store he recommended on a Wednesday, he indicated he would come right out to do the exact measurements so we could finalize our tile order. He did not come Thursday or Friday and I had to call him Monday to remind him. In the mean time, the supply of one tile was no longer available and I had to pay an additional $59 shipping charge.

The project took longer then estimated 5 days, due to (1) his lack of carpentry skills (He did say he was not a carpenter, but should have said no,you need to do that yourself...which I had offered) (2) short work days{...you don't get much done on a day that you arrive at 11:!5 AM and leave by 4:30 PM) (3) you have a water saw that needs to be hit with a rock 4-7 times to get it to start (4) your on your cellphone or (5) yelling at your helper.
Very unprofessiona, after 3 days of work he informs you that he needs a draw. When I told him NO, he acted billigerant yelled at me until I finally gave in, to get him out of my face.
Needless to say, I will NEVER have him in my house again!!

We contacted Mel's Tile for an estimate on replacing our strip laminate kitchen/back entry/laundry room floor, a tiled half-bath floor, and the tiled front door entryway. Mel quickly responded and gave us a very accurate estimate. He took time to explain all of our options and made suggestions on how we could save money by purchasing the same tile for more than one area. He met us at tile stores to look at selections, and when we purchased the tile, he picked it up at the store. (The cost of the tile is not included in the $2,200 above.) He and his crew were courteous, prompt, and performed quality work. They were careful to clean up after each day. The job turned out to be somewhat more time consuming than Mel originally thought due to difficulty in getting up some of our old laminate. Yet he still got the job finished in the expected amount of time. He and his crew also had to move a heavy island so that they could tile beneath it, and they had to move a refrigerator and washer/dryer set in the laundry room. They made every effort to do things so that we were not inconvenienced. During the kitchen part of the tiling, we had some issues with the height of our slide-in stove. Mel was unable to tile beneath the stove because it would have raised the stove too high above the granite countertops. He suggested tiling just underneath the front bottom of the stove so that it looks like it's tiled all the way under. That required him to make some special cuts and was a painstaking process. That was not something any of us anticipated, but he did not charge us extra for it. And it looked just fine when he finished. Throughout the whole process, he was very patient with us, as it took us some time to decide on the tile we wanted. We were extremely pleased with the work and wholeheartedly recommend him to others.

Melvin responded to my request for an estimate immediately and provided a competitive estimate. Because we were anxious to complete the project before Christmas, he actually began work on Sunday! He discussed several options to enhance our project and we utilized a couple of his suggestions, including using 2 colors of tile vs. 1. His work was meticulous and he consulted with me several times to make sure I was happy with his progress. He left the grout sample tray with me and ultimately grouted sample tile pieces in several different colors so I could make the best decision. Ultimately, we went with 2 grout colors to match the 2 tile colors, which required an additional trip for Melvin, since he didn't want 1 color to bleed into another. (I don't know that all other contractors would have taken that much time and care).

Melvin was extremely personable, knowledgeable and consistently went out of his way to ensure we were pleased with his work. The end result is exquisite and I couldn't be happier. This project had several challenges associated with the unique weave shape of the tile, and I know it had to have been frustrating - or at least more time consuming - for Melvin, but he never let it show! He is also very honest - we asked about replacing some and quot;creakyand quot; ceramic tiles in the floor and he recommended that we forego replacement, as it was a result of house settling. He could have made several hundred more dollars replacing the tiles and we would have not been any wiser.

I am extremely particular about quality and workmanship and highly recommend Melvin to anyone else. I won't hesitate to call him again in the future!

We decided to renovate our kitchen/half-bathroom/entry way, including new floor tile. This tile replaced stone floor tile. We also added tile back splash in our kitchen, which wasn’t there before. Our custom cabinet builder suggested Mel’s Tile for this work, based on his previous work with them.

We met with Mel, Mel’s Tile owner, who came to our house to estimate the project. He was cordial and very professional, as well as very knowledgeable about tile. Mel provided us an estimate during his visit at the house. I did a quick comparison and selected them for the job. Mel suggested the types of tile we should consider, care requirements, etc., and various sources where we could get it. He offered to go with us to the various showrooms if we wanted him to accompany us. Though we didn’t choose to have him do so, that was a great service he offered at no additional cost. We selected porcelain tile for both jobs, purchased it, and left it on-hold for pick-up at the store.

On the appointed day, Mel picked-up the tile and brought it to the job site. He set his work area up outside and kept everything clean and neat. As they worked inside on removing the old floor tile, they kept the area as clean as possible and cleaned up afterwards when they finished. It was quick and easy as they worked very closely with the cabinet builder and GC. There were no flaws in the tile and the workmanship was great.

Mel came back after all the countertop/cabinet work was finished and installed the backsplash himself. We received a bill for the quoted amount in both cases: floor tile and back splash. There were no additional charges, etc. Well done!

His expertise and experience were exceptional and most welcome after a difficult renovation.
His estimates were accurate (don't faint) and his disposition unnaturally sunny. I highly
recommend him for the quality of his work, his honesty, and pleasant demeanor.

Mel is a very good tile man. Since I had not used him before, I had a friend who is a contractor talk with him before the project was begun. The contractor confirmed that Mel was experienced and capable. I was very pleased with the work he did for me.
