Firestone Complete Auto Care Store

When I couldn't shift gears in my manual transmission Saturn, I called Firestone at 3507 Poplar because it was the closest shop. They towed my car to the shop two or three blocks away. The good part of the experience is that they began work on my car immediately - running it through diagnostics, etc. They kept the car over night and did replace the transmission shift cable and I have been able to drive it since then.
Among the not so good parts of this experience is the initial diagnostic report in which they found $2948 worth of things they thought were needed. I chose to repair the immediate problem only. They lost my car key and required that I get a receipt from the Saturn dealership showing how much a replacement costs. (Of course the dealer was on the other side of town.) I had to put
pieces of the car interior back in place and clean out the debris they had left in it. A few months ago, I found another interior panel which I hadn't noticed was missing under the seat.
When I went back with the receipt for the ignition key, they did give me a coupon for a free oil change. I didn't use it. They'd probably loss the transmission in the process. I've also had problems with the steering column since taking the car to them. I don't know whether that is related to the towing or anything they did. But, even though they fixed the immediate problem, I have the overall feeling that they are sloppy.

We purchased 4 new tires from this shop in November 2012. Seven months and 10,000 miles later, we began hearing a lot of road noise, so we asked them to check this out. They informed us that the rear shocks were bad and that this had caused uneven wear on the rear tires. According to Firestone, not only did these tires need to be replaced, but the shocks needed to be replaced as well. They gave us a quote to get a significant discount on two replacement tires along with replacing the shocks. We trusted that Firestone's assessment was correct, but since our car was still under warranty, we decided to take it to the dealer to see if the shocks were covered as warranty work. Both the dealership and a third shop that we took it to said that the problem was not with the shocks, but with the tires. So we went back to Firestone and met with the store manager, Jason Shearer, who stood behind his mechanic's assessment that the shocks, not the tires, were the problem. Because we have been loyal customers for the past two years and because there was a difference of opinion between the three shops, he called us later that same day to offer to replace both the shocks and the two tires at no cost.
