Overall the project went well.  It lasted about 2.5 weeks, primarily due to rain that was steady for much of this period.   The vinyl siding on my addition is perfect.  The french door they installed does bind some, but I am thinking it will improve over time as it gets some wear. If not, I will request that they address this.  The soffits were installed well, but probably could have been installed easier using two J channels on each end of the soffit sections, instead of one J channel and then nailing the other end to the soffit.  This required them to make a very fancy bend in the metal fascia that bent over the bottom of the fascia drip edge and then covered the gap between the fascia and the vinyl soffit.  I noted they covered of some small areas of the fascia that were rotten with the metal fascia, even though I had requested it be repaired prior to installing the fascia.  It's not a big deal because it was a couple of small areas that are not structural, and not noticeable, but I would have repaired it, then installed the metal fascia.  There were about $1800 in overages due to wood rot they repaired under a french door, removal of existing siding on the addition and installation of foam insulation on the exterior of the addition.

We found Hick's after we discovered our current contractor was unlicensed and uninsured. We gave Gary a scope of work and he gave us a bid to complete the work. THeir workmanship is excellent, his subcontractors are equally excellent and their ability to deal with issues that a 30 year old house can have is unparalleled. We had many hidden issues created by poor past remodeling but HIck took them is stride and all we fixed with a minimal of additional cost. I have remodeled many homes in the last 40 year and have sue many different contractors throughout the years but I will always use Gary and his team in the future.

I hired Hicks Painting and Home Maintenance, Inc to re-build the wooden enclosure around my chimney. They charged $678.75 for what I expected to be around $450.00. The work was completed on May 13, 2010 and it looked good until the first big rain. The chimney leaked badly and stained our ceiling above the fireplace. I called Mr Gary Hicks, the owner and he sent his men back to fix the problem. He charged an additional $85.00 and didn't fix the problem. The chimney continued to leak. His men came out two more times and Mr. Hicks came out and caulked the chimney himself another time. The chimney still leaked. Finally I hired another company to fix the problem. There was a 3 inch hole in the decking at the corner of the chimney that you could stick your fingers through. Worse, the chimney had not been flashed. The other company patched the decking, removed the trim from the chimney and flashed it properly, added a cricket which should have been done the first time, replaced the trim and caulked. It has not leaked since. I reported this to Mrs Hicks and told her I was very dissatisfied. She asked if I wanted to speak to someone and I told her that I was very dissatisfied with their work and I wanted her to know. I can't beleive a professional would build a chimney enclosure without flashing it properly and patching holes. It cost an additional $375.00 to get the other company to fix Hicks work.

They were very professional and came out to give me an estimate and it was right on the money. I was very impressed with them. They did the job all right.
