There were several issues with the work, and they still have not come back to finish the job. They did a good job on the roof work, but instead of laying down the new bags of shingles, they threw them down.  They were so rough, that I had things falling off my walls, and the sheetrock even separated from the ceiling in several places.

They did not put the screws in the downspouts; consequently, the downspouts are coming loose in areas, which I have to have repaired. The gutter was installed incorrectly, and was higher on the downspout end, which I have also had to have repaired by another company. Also, he made dents all along the siding where he put the ladder against the house. I have had most of that siding repaired by now, but there is still damage to some areas that I have not had a chance to get fixed yet. They also broke one my light fixtures trying to put it back up, and I had to replace and fix that myself.

The siding guys were great. The window on my back bathroom was installed crookedly, so I had to have them come back to straighten out the window. When doing this window repair, they did not repair the siding around the window, so the siding remains buckled there.

When he came to repair the garage door, he somehow realized my elderly neighbor had a key to my house. He went to my neighbor?s home, asked for the key, and then entered my home when I was not there, and proceeded to do the repair work. He was supposed to replace the tracking on the garage door, which was never completed.

I asked him to come out and look at the job so he could see what still needed repaired and fixed, and he set up 2 separate appointments and did not show for either of them. I paid them half the total amount, prior to them finishing the job. Also, he offered a 5% discount for Angie?s List members, and instead of taking 5% off the total price of the job ($14K), he only took 5% off the remaining balance of $7K.

After a compelling presentation we decided to hire US Windows and Doors to install the Leaf Slugger system on our new gutters. The work was scheduled the installers arrived on-time and soon after realized that they did not have the right clips to install the system properly. I wasn't able to stay home long enough for them to retrieve the correct clips and return so we rescheduled for later that afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised when they returnen again on-time. The work was completed within a couple of hours I paid the balance due and thought we were done. In just a few days we had a lot of rain and the opportunity to see how the guards performed. We discovered more than one place where the pitch was obviously wrong and the water was being routed to the back of the gutter and down the fascia boards rather than into the gutter. After numerous attempts and messages to Rick Miller we finally reached him at the office and were told by him that our new gutters would need to be re-hung lower to accomodate the system and for it to work properly. We are still waiting on that work to be done and in the meantime have had much more rain and much more opportunity for water damage to our home. I know it has been the holiday season however getting in touch with Rick is next to impossible. He does not return calls he has not followed through on his commitment to "make-it-right" and it has now been over a month since our initial installation. We have spoken with Rick at least three times (us calling him) and each time are told he sill have someone come out to look at the pitch of the gutters. No one has ever shown up and Rick has not followed back up with us. The warranty on the system is only as good as the company behind it and so far I am hugely disappointed in the customer service from Rick Miller and US Windows and Doors. II would not recommend this company at all.

I went over the story pretty thoroughly above.  The work that was done was done acceptably well.  GETTING the work done was like pulling teeth.  It's just not worth the effort when you're TRYING to give someone business and he makes it that difficult.  I don't know if it's intentional, poor organization, or what, but something as simple as making a phone call should be easy to handle.  The hassle wasn't worth the results.  I would not recommend this company to anyone, and I will not be using them again.

I got them from Angie’s List. They were highly recommended. They have not yet completed the job and it’s been about 10 months since they first came out and looked at the job. They got it all done except for couple of small pieces of trim that were supposed to be done. I am not going to call them anymore. I still owe them $ 3000 and I am not going to pay them until they finish. They came out in May of last year and gave me the initial estimate. Actually we had a lot of storm and hail damage. I needed a new roof, needed 2 new skylights and there were holes in some of the sidings where the hail hit. When they first came out they were very appeal-able and they said it’s going to take them a while to get to us. I was not in a big hurry as most of the damage was superficial except for the skylights and we had them covered. They said they will start probably around 1st of August. The 1st of August came, the 1st of September then the 1st of November came and they still didn’t start. I called them over and over again. They kept saying they have things to do and they kept pushing it back. They said they will get to me as soon as possible. Anyway when they finally started out it was in the middle of December they kept the roof on and they weren’t able to replace the skylight so they covered it up. I had a big rain about a day later and it came through our bathroom. Now I had ceiling damage in the bathroom which they said they would fix. They said call a painter and paint over it. It was water damage and it discolored the ceiling. Anyway we got a painter, he came in and fixed it and they said they will take $ 150 off the bill. A man did the final siding on the damaged part. When he got done I looked around in the driveway and I picked up about 30 siding nails. I put them aside and called him. He apologized and he said that his wife was sick and had cancer. He was spending a lot of time with her. He was working by himself but he said he would send a guy back out to pick the nails up. Nobody ever showed up and I picked up about 30 nails. That is something that should have been done before he left the job. On price they were comparable with everybody else. The insurance took care of most of it. I would love for them to come back and finish the job. The quality was fine. It is just the way they did it and how much time it has taken. I saw him in a restaurant in February and he stopped by and we talked for a minute. He said he will be out next week with a piece of trim to finish that up. I haven’t seen him yet. I haven’t talked to him and if he shows up and gets it done. I will pay him. If he doesn’t show up he will not get paid. He gives me lip service. He seemed like a decent fellow and things are not working out for him. He seems to know what he is doing. Rick is the owner of US Window & Door Co. He said that the guy who did the siding for me, his wife had cancer and she getting treatment for it right now. He would get to it as soon as possible. The type of work that was done was very good but when I want something done I want it done as soon as possible. I would not use them again in the future.

They were really good at following up. Their price was well under another competitor.  I would use them again in the future.

It seems like they did a high quality job. They took their time and did a really good job. They are affordable, they are relatively easy to work with, and they for the most part do good work.

Bottom Line: Rick Miller (President of US Window & Door) is committed to 100% customer satisfaction.  Throughout the process of the repairs, he was constantly involved.  He made sure that my wife and I were fully satisfied with the work that was done.  As to be expected on such an extensive job, there were challenges.  However, Rick was always accessible and he ensured that the work was done right.

Here are some bullet points that might help other members in the future:

  • Mike Miller, the sales representative, arrived when he said he would.  He confirmed all that needed to be done and provided an accurate estimate of the cost.  This estimate was significantly less than others we had received.  During a meeting with Mike and Rick Miller my wife and I were impressed by their commitment to excellence and, taking into account the reviews of this company that we had read on the Angie's List website, we decided to contract with them to do the job.
  • The roofing crew worked very hard for as long as they could each day---until the temperatures on the roof exceeded 110 degrees.  It took them a while to get the job done, but ours is a complex roof structure and Tony (the roofing crew foreman) was committed to doing everything right.  The roof looks great!
  • The siding crew arrived immediately after the roof was done.  We had selected a new, high quality siding (Everlast Cladding) that had never been installed in this area before.  Joey and Joe (the two primary members of the siding crew) had attended training on how to install this siding.  They did a superb job and the siding looks fabulous.  It will last for decades!
  • The subcontractor that Rick had lined up to install the new gutters and downspouts had some serious health problems and Rick had to arrange for another contractor to come in from Nashville to do our job.  They were outstanding!
  • The last step in the process was to install gutter protection (Icovers) over all the new gutters on both the house and the barn and install the new window screens.  We'll never have to clean out clogged gutters again.  Hooray!

My wife and I suggested to Rick that he needs to improve communication with his customers so that they are aware whenever problems arise and crews may be late or work delayed. He agreed and said that he and his people will do better, especially when their workload gets back to normal.

He gave a really reasonable estimate.  They were responsive and called back in a timely fashion.  They came out when they said they would.  So, he did a good job with those.  He wasn’t able to give the estimate in the format that I needed.  His format didn’t work with my software.

After a rain delay of one day workers began early and worked all day for about 2 !/2 days, They were respectful and polite, actually enjoyable to be around. Rick's initial presentation pretty much had us sold but we initiated about 5 or 6 more estimates. Rick was not the cheapest or the most expensive but as he was the only one out of the lot who called back a few days later to see if he had our business, we were sold! US W and D had good communication with me and returned calls promptly.

I am very pleased with the work and professionalism of the whole US Window & Door team. My initial sales contact was with Mike Miller. We met and listened to him tell us about the products they offered. We initially were going to do an insulated vinyl siding, windows and gutters. Mike provided reference homes for us to look at and those houses looked great and the couple of owners we talked with were please with their work. However, we became concerned that in our research we found that some older vinyl siding houses (NOT US WINDOW & DOOR HOUSES), had vinyl that seemed to sag in places. I started to look for another installer that dealt with Hardieboard but Mike told me that US Window & Door did work with Hardieboard too. Mike came to our house with Hardieboard color samples and a window example. We came to an agreed upon price for the work we wanted done and the contracts were signed. I made an initial deposit on the work and within a few days, the doors were installed. New house keys were provided and we were on our way. One of our doors was a sliding glass door on the front of the house. We had it replaced with a set of French doors. It was amazing how much difference just this little bit of work made. Joey is the lead of the work crew. Super nice and very helpful. He is very detailed in his work and seems to take pride in doing the job right. As they put up the Hardieboard siding, they seemed to be very careful on the measurements and also on the cutting. Joey laid down a smooth little bead of caulk that tied the board and trim together nicely. I purchased new outdoor lighting with the motion detectors and Joey installed them where they worked great. It took about two weeks for the windows to arrive. Once received the siding was put on hold and the windows were installed. Our old windows were some of the worst that Joey had ever seen so these were a tremendous improvement. Mike recommended and they installed an Alside Excaliber (I think) window. It had a Best Buy ranking and seems to be a very nice window. This is where I expect to see significant savings in my electric bill because I won't be losing heat/cool around and through these new windows. Mike was accommodating to the changes that we made along the way. We wanted to do a stone siding on the lower half of the front of the house and all around the front door. Mike had initially brought samples of the fake stone panels that generally matched what was discussed. It didn't look right so Mike gave us other options. Mike presented us with the man-made stone product. I was able to go to the local stone supplier and got an education on the styles and colors available. This was a great option and although it increased the cost of the remodel work, was worth every penny. LOOKS FANTASTIC!!! I am so glad Mike brought us this option. We have a small storage shed on the back of the house that appears to have been kind of an after thought when the house was initially built. Joey realized that the 2X4 and siding door would not hold the weight of the Hardieboard and recommended installing a real door on the shed. They expanded the door opening and it made the shed more functional. Guttering and the guttering cap went on real fast as my roof line was very simple (straight). Joey and crew cleaned up the yard after the work was complete. Mike made several visits during the work job to make sure that everything was going well. Mike was available by phone almost anytime I had a question. I had a lot of work done to the house. It took one month for the work to be done start to finish. That includes several rain & snow days where they couldn't work and a few days after the doors were installed until the Hardieboard arrived where there was nothing for them to do. Joey and crew were out working on a few Saturday's to make sure that they stayed on schedule. This whole house was in desparate need of this remodel work. US Window & Door did a great job and the house now looks great. One other thing. I was having a 220 electrical box installed at the same time because I wanted the wire hidden underneath the siding. The electrician drilled a hole to run the wire but initially drilled in the wrong location leaving a one inch hole in the frame. I didn't want to leave this so I sprayed some expanding foam in to fill this hole. The foam expanded much more than I thought it would and it dropped down and stained the brand new siding just installed. I tried to clean it up but didn't do an very good job. Joey replaced several of the siding boards that were stained and worked to clean boards that couldn't be replaced. This was my mess but these guys saved me with their extra work. This is above and beyond folks because this was all my fault. I am very happy with the work. The cost was reasonable considering all of the work that they had to do. (They were a good bit cheaper than another quote I had from several months earlier.) The whole team seemed to be good folk. They did a good job for me and I am sure that they will do a good job for you too.
