They did not put the screws in the downspouts; consequently, the downspouts are coming loose in areas, which I have to have repaired. The gutter was installed incorrectly, and was higher on the downspout end, which I have also had to have repaired by another company. Also, he made dents all along the siding where he put the ladder against the house. I have had most of that siding repaired by now, but there is still damage to some areas that I have not had a chance to get fixed yet. They also broke one my light fixtures trying to put it back up, and I had to replace and fix that myself.
The siding guys were great. The window on my back bathroom was installed crookedly, so I had to have them come back to straighten out the window. When doing this window repair, they did not repair the siding around the window, so the siding remains buckled there.
When he came to repair the garage door, he somehow realized my elderly neighbor had a key to my house. He went to my neighbor?s home, asked for the key, and then entered my home when I was not there, and proceeded to do the repair work. He was supposed to replace the tracking on the garage door, which was never completed.
I asked him to come out and look at the job so he could see what still needed repaired and fixed, and he set up 2 separate appointments and did not show for either of them. I paid them half the total amount, prior to them finishing the job. Also, he offered a 5% discount for Angie?s List members, and instead of taking 5% off the total price of the job ($14K), he only took 5% off the remaining balance of $7K.
Bottom Line: Rick Miller (President of US Window & Door) is committed to 100% customer satisfaction. Throughout the process of the repairs, he was constantly involved. He made sure that my wife and I were fully satisfied with the work that was done. As to be expected on such an extensive job, there were challenges. However, Rick was always accessible and he ensured that the work was done right.
Here are some bullet points that might help other members in the future:
- Mike Miller, the sales representative, arrived when he said he would. He confirmed all that needed to be done and provided an accurate estimate of the cost. This estimate was significantly less than others we had received. During a meeting with Mike and Rick Miller my wife and I were impressed by their commitment to excellence and, taking into account the reviews of this company that we had read on the Angie's List website, we decided to contract with them to do the job.
- The roofing crew worked very hard for as long as they could each day---until the temperatures on the roof exceeded 110 degrees. It took them a while to get the job done, but ours is a complex roof structure and Tony (the roofing crew foreman) was committed to doing everything right. The roof looks great!
- The siding crew arrived immediately after the roof was done. We had selected a new, high quality siding (Everlast Cladding) that had never been installed in this area before. Joey and Joe (the two primary members of the siding crew) had attended training on how to install this siding. They did a superb job and the siding looks fabulous. It will last for decades!
- The subcontractor that Rick had lined up to install the new gutters and downspouts had some serious health problems and Rick had to arrange for another contractor to come in from Nashville to do our job. They were outstanding!
- The last step in the process was to install gutter protection (Icovers) over all the new gutters on both the house and the barn and install the new window screens. We'll never have to clean out clogged gutters again. Hooray!
My wife and I suggested to Rick that he needs to improve communication with his customers so that they are aware whenever problems arise and crews may be late or work delayed. He agreed and said that he and his people will do better, especially when their workload gets back to normal.
