In order to achieve IICRC-certified status, firms must meet a rigorous list of standards in business ethics and expertise. More than just removing excess water, IICRC-certified restorers have the knowledge and equipment to further dry a home or facility (including substructure materials) completely back to pre-loss conditions. IICRC standards recommend that companies do not "float" carpet and pad with air movers which is the old process that you are referring to. The reason that this is not recommended is two-fold. First, floating carpet can cause damage to the primary and secondary backing of the carpeting due to the constant flapping or jerking motion this method creates. Secondly, recent innovations in both water extraction and equipment allows materials and substrates to be dried in place fully.
