Orkin Pest Control

We heard scratching in our attic and called Orkin to take a look on 12/23/23. They said we had a mice infestation and required a full insulation replacement. They told us they'd replace all the blown insulation and batting, decontaminate the attic, and replace it with their cellulose insulation that is rated at an R-49 at 13" with an entrapment in the crawl space. We were not given a contact. This contract was supposed to be emailed on 12/27/2023 and has never been emailed. We received a copy on 12/30/2023 after the work had been completed. This took us asking the installer upon arrival, calling the main office 3 times, calling the salesman 7 times, and texting the sales person 3 times before speaking to the insulation man 4 more times to receive it. (That's 19 times). During the installation the workers did not remove the batting. They said that wasn't included. We still did not have paperwork. After 4 calls between an installer and a district manager they agreed to do the work but acted as if they were giving us a "free deal" which was absolutely not true. They could not replace our insulation that day and left us without insulation while the temperatures outside dropped to the 30s. The house could get warm because of the lack of insulation and racked up a hefty electric bill. We were told that a licensed electrician would be called after the insulation was removed to see if mice damaged the wires. Orkin (who are not licensed electricians) determined an electrician did not need to be called and went ahead with the insulation installation. There was chew damage to the wires that they did not acknowledge. We are still missing batting that wasn't fully replaced. We were charged for Orkin's yearly pest control service without ever signing paperwork (they confirmed this) and a service man lied and reported that he did a home visit. No one came. We've yet to be fully refunded for this, but they had no problem stealing from us without signed paperwork or providing any service. Orkin claims that we only pay once we are satisfied and the job is completed. And we aren't satisfied and the job wasn't finished. It is now 2/5/24 and we are still waiting for them to finish the job.

These guys are great. I've used them for years for pest control but had no idea they also treat for pest removal and damage done by pests. They were offering to seal/encapsulate the crawl space. I would have done so if it weren't even more cost prohibitive. But, it would have been well worth it. I still want them to.
They were very proffesional, and very good with dealing with the payment process. This is the only pest control company I would go with for my house. The guys they used were Orkin employees, and NOT subcontractors. So, no need to worry about background checks. The work is still holding up and it's one less thing I have to worry about.

They come out monthly. They check for what bugs are in season. They do our termite inspections. They are one of the better dealers and the most cost effective. Unless they give us a reason to change, we plan on staying with them.

They come every first of the month. I have had them for probably 15 years. I have not had any bugs for 15 years. I am going to have research prices.

I've had an Orkin contract for pest control for close to 4 years. But, I learned about the high prices and potential lack of quality after our termite inspection. At the termite inspection, we were essentially scared into feeling the threat of termites was upon us because our house is 8 years old. Feeling like we had missed something important, my husband and I signed up for treatment immediately. (You have a 72 hour clause to change your mind, but we were scheduled 48 hours later.) The day after we signed our contract, I had second thoughts about the estimate and called around for bids on our linear feet. Orkin wanted about $2300 (with annual renewal of the warranty for ~$315, yikes!) and others quoted $1000-$1200 with annual renewal for $100-$125. So, I immediately canceled the contract for termite treatment. I should mentioned that they used the termite inspection somewhat as a trojan horse to sell us crawlspace humidity protection (either encapsulation for about $10k or a half-wrap for the bargain price of $6500).
When I had another termite inspector come out I inquired about their pest control services. (No name mentioned but they're rated highly on Angie's List.) The more I talked to this other pest control person, the more I realized Orkin isn't a good deal. I found out that it's not normal for the pest control cost to go up year after year (we signed up at like $80/60 days several years ago and now our service is $99/60 days). I also found out that Orkin's 'no mouse control if you have a dog' policy is not the norm. And, I also found out that you CAN get effective treatment for spiders which is not what my Orkin rep has told me. Orkin has never volunteered to spray for bugs in my crawlspace and the other pest control person acted like that was no big deal.
All in all, I believe I have overpaid for Orkin for several years. I believe I paid for the name, brand, and marketing, and could have gotten coverage for a better price with a local group. I'm switching now and will post a review for our new pest control company after I have enough experience to warrant one.

We had some problems that they tried to fix and didn't fix and it costs us literally thousands of dollars that is why we were looking around for someone else. The people they send out are very nice and prompt. The gentleman who came the last couple of times have been delightful. Overall, the things that they have done over the years that cost us a lot of money didn't do any good are probably still be the reason we will continue to look for another company if possible.

Do not let them start work before the 3days are up and you have time to think about it.

We've had exceptional service from Orkin. They are responsive if I ever have an issue and very professional and friendly anytime they visit the house. We live in a older home with small children, so pest control is important to us.

The most unprofessional people we have ever dealt with in our lives. We will never recommend them or ever use them, even if the services were free.

I will use them again in the future.

They come once a month during the summer. I have been using them for years. They work with me to identify the bugs. He is careful not to spray near my birds. He answered all of my questions.

I use them because I am in the habit of using them and their price is reasonable. I will use them again in the future.

I just ended my contract with them yesterday. When the service first started, the tech that came was very thorough. The house that we bought was infested with millipedes, stinging centipedes and wasps. After the initial visit, we had no bugs within a few weeks and continued with no bugs until about March of this year. During this time our original tech retired. The new tech NEVER treated the porches or the upstairs, he only treated the basement. So of course, we started having trouble again. I thought that this problem may have been due to the weather being unusually warm, so I informed him that we'd being seeing some of the bugs but thought that after he came the problem would be solved. It wasn't. So I waited about two full weeks before I called him and told him, hoping that the products he "had" put out for the bugs would work again. When I called his office (they had him call because he had not given me a number to contact him directly) he said, "I wish that you would've called earlier because I'm not in Oneida now but I was this morning, it will be next week before I get back out there" to which I responded "that will have to work". He calls me back and (summarizing here) tells me that I need to move everything in the house away from the walls because he thinks that the millipedes and centipedes are coming through the joints between the POURED basement walls and floors. I didn't move everything away from the walls as I've NEVER had to do this before and the first tech had gotten rid of all our problems without me rearranging my house for him. When he arrived I told him that I'd not moved anything and he said, "Well, I guess I'll have to do what I can" and I said "Okay". The night after he left, we were swamped again with centipedes, millipedes, wasps and now black widows. I spoke to his supervisor and he was extremely rude. He was arguing with me, interrupting me and pretty much saying that I was making it up. He also said that we would not be able to find a better exterminator and that they do the services for Lowe's and Home Depot so that should show me that they ARE the best. He was even throwing in these little tidbits of sarcasm AFTER I told him that I wanted to cancel the service. The tech and the supervisor both are VERY rude with extremely BAD attitudes. I know that everyone has a different experience, but this was mine.

I have very few bugs; it's about 98% coverage. They are straightforward and I'm satisfied with Orkin. You might find a cheaper price but you'll get what you pay for. When I need service they come out and service me. Last year I found an ant infestation and they came out lickety-split and took care of the ant problem. They are very responsive to the customer. I can't complain about Orkin. I think the price is a little high but I attribute that to how they have their organization is set up; I don't know how much other people charge.

We have a contract with them and they come throughout the year and we had a specific problem that they came to check out at that time. They are very good.
