After new carpet installation, we have called back 4 times to address problems such as: • A mouse-size bulge under the hallway carpet • A bad cut where the carpet was joined- & was cut 3/8 inches narrower than the first piece- exposing sub-flooring (Wwe now have 2 ‘speed bumps’where the installer stretched the carpet so much that suspended buckles have formed.) • many stair steps where the carpet did not meet the trim- leaving exposed carpet edges or rough wood • An ugly slash cut across the entire face of 1 step’s riser • Bunched-up carpet, crooked cuts showing exposed wood, & loose hanging staples • Badly scratched -up newly painted baseboards & trim *Call-backs: (1st) Installer admitted that he expected a call-back for problems he left behind. (2nd) Weeks later, a strip of bare wood ½ inch wide & several inches long appeared on the surface of 1 step. It took two phone calls & another few months to get the installer back out. He stapled a small carpet scrap over the bare spot- creating a smashed ‘dimpled’ look in the pile. We thought he had re-stretched & fastened down the carpet. (3rd) The installer left the carpet hanging loosely over the lip of this same step; but if stapled, the carpet would be cut too short. 4th (Installer patched in another carpet scrap to cover the exposed underside of this step. *Summary: Despite many problems & requests, the owner never inspected the installation until after we wrote- suggesting possible redress. The owner stated that the installation is fine: denied that he could see the carpet buckles; & did not see anything wrong with using carpet scraps to ‘plug’ holes where the carpet was cut short. He tried to intimidate us about the cost for additional carpet to re-do these areas- & intimated that we would have to pay if he could not see any improvement afterward. Since he has already stated that he cannot see anything wrong, it is clear that he intends to do nothing.

In July 2014, I had contracted and ordered flooring from Josh Sharp, salesman at Greater Tennessee Flooring 222 W Baxter Ave. NW, Knoxville, TN 37917 (865) 522-0606. When I ordered the flooring product Josh said they do not sub contract out installers, they hire their own installers. On Friday August 1 and Saturday August 2, 2014, I had the flooring put in our home; upstairs bathroom, downstairs office and stairway. Greater Flooring sent their installers out. Two people came to install the flooring. His name is Gary and his wife (Andrea) helped him (at that time I assumed she was an employee). Upon ordering the flooring, I was given a and quot;Greater Tennessee Flooring Pre-Installation Checklist for customersand quot;. It is stated, and quot;We will be very careful to avoid damage to your baseboards and other woodwork while delivering and installing your new floor covering. Some scuffing of woodwork may be unavoidable. We cannot be responsible for any touchup which may be required.and quot; I do understand that. As the carpeting and vinyl was being brought into the rooms, the paint high up the walls, the doors, and even the ceiling was scratched and scuffed up. I can understand baseboards being scuffed, but high on the walls and ceiling? I am not happy with how they brought in the flooring to install it. In my opinion, the installers were careless in bringing the flooring into the rooms. The scuffed up walls and ceiling was unacceptable. On August 4, 2014, I asked Joshua Sharp to come to my home to check the installation, look at the scuffed up marks on the walls and ceiling. He or no-one else ever came out to my home to check the installation. On August 26, 2014, I went to Greater Tennessee Flooring, and spoke with Steve Hall, owner, asking him if Gary’s wife (Andrea) is an employee and on payroll. He said, “No, she helps Gary out.and quot; I said to Steve, and quot; When I ordered the flooring, in July I was told by Josh that Greater Tennessee Flooring hires and sends out their own installers. I told Steve Hall, and quot; She had no right being in my home.” In my opinion, not being an employee of Greater Tennessee Flooring, Andrea should not have been in my home. I was not aware of this until August 26, 2014.

MY RESPONSES ARE IN CAPITAL LETTERS.

At this point this has just become a he said she said episode and it appears to be going nowhere.

WITH MR. HALL'S STATEMENT FROM BELOW and quot; One other thing I feel compelled to mention is that we are not painters, THEN THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS FALSE. One of the things we encounter regularly is customers that choose to paint before their new flooring is installed. The biggest problem is that almost all paint used today for interior painting is latex based. One of the things that make it so popular is that it is dry to the touch within a few hours. What many people don't realize is that the surface of the paint is dry to the touch but all latex based paint takes at least 30 days to fully cure and/or harden. HOW DID THEY KNOW OR NOT THAT I DID NOT PRIME THE SURFACE IF THEY ARE NOT PAINTERS? THEY DID NOT LOOK AT THE PAINT. WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT PRIOR INSTALLATION, JOSHUA SHARP ONLY MEASURED THE FLOORS. BY THE WAY, PAINT SOLD TODAY HAS THE PRIMER ALREADY IN IT. MY WALLS WERE PRIMED AND THE PAINT I USED WAS A FLAT, NOT LATEX. THE BATHROOM WAS PAINTED 5 YEARS AGO, THE STAIRWELL WAS PAINTED 4 YEARS AGO AND THE BASEMENT WALLS WERE PAINTED A MONTH BEFORE THE FLOORING WAS INSTALLED. BUT THEN AGAIN THEY ARE NOT PAINTERS, THEY ARE FLOORING PEOPLE.

We have a customer information sheet that is titled and quot;Preinstallation Checklistand quot; that we give all customers. One of the keys things in this and quot;Preinstalltion Checklistand quot; is that it explains all of what I just told you about latex based paint and the curing time needed. MY WALLS WERE PRIMED AND THE PAINT I USED WAS A FLAT, NOT LATEX. BUT THEN and quot; One other thing I feel compelled to mention is that we are not painters.and quot; It says that we will do our best to keep to the minimum the amount of scuffing of the new paint that is done but that the customer must expect this and will need to touch it up after we finish our installation.

WITH MR. HALL'S STATEMENT FROM BELOW and quot; One other thing I feel compelled to mention is that we are not painters, THEN THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS FALSE. Typically this scuffing of the paint happens along the baseboard since that is where we are spending most of our time working but it also regularly happens to doors, door facings, door jambs and ceilings.

I have purchased two area rugs from Greater Tennessee Flooring and will be going back to them for all my rug and flooring needs. They were helpful and nice and answered silly questions with grace.

Have used Greater Tennessee twice.  Most recently installed 15' large patterned carpeting and pad in our family room.  Took most of the day.  Installers moved large furniture and worked efficiently. Very pleased with workmanship, attitude, efficiency and helpfulness. Seams are imperceptible, all vacuumed and cleaned up before they left. Very neat.

7 years ago installed roll flooring in a kitchen over a subfloor they also had to install. Same good attention to detail.
Also found selection & prices for flooring very competitive.

The tile was fine, but the hard wood wasn't acceptable to us. So we called them, and they came back and tore up half of the floor. And we were satisfied.

They arrived on time. We really don't have any complaints except there was some unevenness in the tiling that I wish they would have taken care of. We had gotten quite a few quotes before choosing them.

The product we bought was supposed to have a fifteen year warranty, however, within a short time, my dog scratched it and it hasn't held up. When I mentioned this, they didn't want to honor the warranty.
Response from GREATER TENNESSEE FLOORING
"THE HARDWOOD FLOOR THAT WAS PURCHASED DOES HAVE A 15 YEAR WEAR WARRANTY. UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS NOT A WARRANTY ON ANY FLOORING PRODUCT MADE THAT WILL GUARANTEE THAT A DOGS NAILS CAN'T SCRATCH IT."

They are a great company and the workers did a marvelous job on my floor. They were right on time and they did the job quickly and were very professional. They cleaned up really well and they were highly recommended to me.
