Normally this type of cancellation would not be seRious but due to timing of holidays/family coming/ and the very little time I had for repair ... Loosing a day to get the repair was very inconvenient. Because Christmas was so close and most businesses not working around the holiday we were unable to have the repair made at all as the only day we could have had a someone in to fix it was lost to miscommunication.
Would have been nice to have been told he could not come and to seek repair elsewhere instead of waiting on a repair call that did not happen.
I called Mr. Coppock because I had a problem with my refrigerator. Although the freezer section of my refrigerator was working, the refrigerator section was warm. He showed up on time (Around 8:15 am on a Friday). He said that my refrigerator needed a new relay, but that he forgot the relay at home and he needed to go get it. It took him between 45 minutes to an hour to go retrieve the part. When he returned he put the part in and plugged the fridge into a surge protector. He told me that it would not be fully functional until the next day around the same time. I was to call him to let him know if it was working. It did NOT work and I called him the next day (Saturday) and let him know. He came back later that Saturday and said I needed to replace the evaporator motor. He said he didn't hear it running the day before (so why didn't he replace it instead of the relay the day before)!
I asked what that would cost because I had just paid him $300 to replace the relay and it didn't work, and I wasn't sure if it was worth spending more money on the refrigerator. He said it was well worth it, and that the part would cost me $85.00, but that it needed to be ordered (he called someone to check on the part while he was in my home) and that it would be in on Tuesday. At the suggestion of my sister I went to an appliance parts store online and after entering the model number of my refrigerator it took me straight to a diagram of my refrigerator. It asked me to choose from a long list, what the problem with my refrigerator was. I found the problem (freezer working, refrigerator warm) and clicked on it. It showed me the top three parts, in order from the most frequent to the less frequent, that could cause that problem. The #1 cause of that problem was the evaporator motor. I got the model number of the evaporator motor for my fridge and goggled it. I found the part on Amazon for $19.65 (the same part he was selling me for $85), but before I ordered it I went on Youtube (again at my sister's suggestion) and found a youtube video on how to install the part. After watching the video and realizing I could install it myself, I called Mr. Coppock and told him I found the part online for about $20.00 and all he said to me was, and quot;I know.and quot; He then said that he too found them online for $20 and ordered two of them. I told him that I would not pay $85 for a part that is $20 online and that I ordered the part for myself. Again he said, and quot;I know.and quot; I asked what I had paid for the relay that he installed because the receipt he gave me (which consisted of the back of his business card) was not itemized. All it had on it was the date, the letters Rand R (which I assume mean refrigerator repair) the word relay, the word surge and $300 at the bottom. He said he didn't know what I paid for the relay because he didn't have his receipts in front of him. I asked him what I paid for the surge protector. He said, and quot;$23...I know you could find it cheaper onlineand quot;. I asked him why I had paid him $300 and he said it included the service call and labor (he arrived around 8:15 and was gone by 11:30, and remember he left for about an hour in between to retrieve the part). When my part arrived I spent another $10 on a tool (ratchet driver) that I didn't own and installed the part myself (it was easy!!!). Within a couple of hours I could feel the refrigerator getting cool. It's been a few days and no problems.
He went above and beyond our expectations. We offered to pay him more for the time he spent on research and advice, but he declined. We will definitely call him again. We were impressed with the quality of his service and follow-up.
I have lived in a number of cities and had used Sears repair service because these were Sears appliances. When I called Sears, they were only interested in selling me a $250 service agreement, before the service person ever saw the appliance. So I cancelled my Sears service call.
I spoke with a parts supply house thinking that the problem was the timer switch and I would replace that. The person at the parts house diagnosed the problem and said that it was probably the fill valve. I called David and made arrangements to be here on Saturday, my only time off.
Just before he arrived, I tried the washer once again and it worked. He was already on the way, so I decided since I would be paying for a service call anyway, I would have him check and do preventative maintenance on both the washer and dryer.
I was getting some rust around the hinge on the washer and he showed me how to stop the rust and explained that the lid needs to be open until the unit is dry inside to prevent this. He looked at the dryer which was working okay on timed dry, but the automatic cycle was not fully drying clothes. He checked the vent in back, and I had properly installed stiff vent pipe. We went outside and he removed the dryer vent cover and found some build up of lint. I am in an apartment complex, so the staff should be doing this on a regular basis. After this clean out, the auto sensor on the dryer worked just fine.
